Daily Gem: AMMOLITE! Ammolite is an organic opal-like gemstone made of the fossilized shells of ammonites! It has a Mohs Hardness of 3.5-4, making it rather soft. It comes in a variety of colors, but the most typical coloration is orange, green, and red. Its brilliance and colors often rival the more subtle coloration found in opal and labradorite. Ammolite is the trade name of the thin aragonite shell of ammonite fossils, but it is also just called ammonite at times. Often, clear quartz or spinel is used as a cover when made into jewelry as it is very fragile, and a shale backing is also used to give it stability. Ammolite is known as the “absorber of knowledge” and therefore enhances wisdom, increases wealth. It is also known to balance negative energy, bringing harmony, increased vitality and luck. Physically, ammolite increases stamina, relieves trauma, alleviate depression, and exhaustion. On many occasions, ammolite is used to help connect the user to their past lives during meditation.
