“I can’t walk, just go on without me.”
HE HATED THIS LAND.
AND EVERYONE WITHIN IT AS WELL.
All that he knew, was just pain. Just suffering. Just a horrid life that at any moment could be cut short. At any chance someone got, they could kill them and there was not a thing they could do about it. Too many mouths, too little of food to go around for everyone that was here. That was the nature of the land, it was everyone for themselves, you were on your own as he stood there, hands resting on his knees as he leaned forward a little bit. He was so hungry. So very hungry, that it hurt his insides, as he could feel them, twisting and pulling into a hard knot, but they just had to go a little bit further.
“No.” As he glanced down at her, shuffling a little bit forward as he would drop down with a hard thud onto the ground on his knees and slip his arms under her. “I won’t ever leave you.”
She was the only friend he had. The only person within this horrid world that he cared about, who had saved his life more times than he cane ven count as he scooped her up into his arms and then would stand, his legs shacking as he stepped forward, his right leg buckling a little bit and dropping into the ground as he almost dropped her…..but he held onto her tightly and swallowed. Through gritted teeth, he managed to push himself back up to his feet and then take another step forward and then another and another as he was walking with her in his arms.
“There is food….” They just needed to go a little bit further, the town was nearby, people had fled from it when they heard that the war was spreading there with a battle that was close, he hoped that within there mad panic and desperation to live, they would have left something behind, something small, it did not matter what it was, just something, anything at all that they could share to fill there stomachs and try to stop the lingering pain that was within them. As he walked forward, holding onto her a little bit more tighter now than before.
“Just….a little bit….further.”
