I've been putting this off for a long time... Time to finally give this reality some appreciation and explanations /ᐠ。ꞈ。ᐟ\
Alongside the world we all know, there exists an entirely different realm — the world of the Nocturnes. It is filled with creatures who look remarkably like humans, yet tenderly cherish the magic of their own world and their unique abilities. Every Nocturne possesses a talent known as The Seed, which is essentially considered a second heart — after all without this gift, they wouldn't be Nocturne and won't have access to their world. This talent can manifest as flame, ice, shadows, shapeshifting, telekinesis — any superpower a human mind can fathom.
By day, many of the Nocturnes, especially the younger generation, live among humans, leading perfectly ordinary lives. But at night, the boundary between the two worlds becomes more tangible. The realms split apart, existing in perfect parallels, and each live its own life and its own night. The Nocturns return home, to a world where every corner is infused with energy, vibrancy, and magic (unlike the human world, Nocturnal realm is far more colorful, bright, and clear, completely untouched by pollution)
Compared to humans, the Nocturne are far fewer in number — perhaps only a tenth of the human population. Only few of them enjoy megacities. As soon as night falls and the two worlds divide, the high-rises in the Nocturne world become deserted, leaving the streets of megacities completely empty and lifeless. The only exceptions are occasional clubs where they can find their own kind, exchange information, or enjoy music over a good drink. Such bars are often run by Nocturne with a Host talent, which allows them to control a specific territory, establishing their own rules and maintaining order. This type of talent is also frequently possessed by the elders of small settlements or towns, where most Nocturne prefer to reside, staying closer to nature and their community.
The lifespan of a Nocturne is twice as long as a human's — they can live for over 200 years. Therefore, to avoid suspicion, Nocturnes often spend only about a quarter of their lives among humans. Afterward, many fake their deaths, and the following morning, they simply do not return from the Nocturne side of the world to the human side. An exception to this rule occurs when a Nocturne falls in love with a human, which makes the situation much more complicated. Otherwise, there are two other options for staying out of the government's sight: settling somewhere in the wilderness, preferably alongside other Nocturnes in their own towns, or leading a more illegal lifestyle, constantly on the alert.
A Nocturne's talent cannot be taken by force or claimed, even after the bearer's death. ...
P.S. There is a lot more information I could share about this reality — for example, about the Nocturnes' Seed and their settlements, or the Vultures and the black market. Tell me if anyone interested.
