How to Identify Original Ratnagiri Alphonso Mangoes Compared with Bangalore Alphonso
There are a few factors to consider when identifying original Ratnagiri Alphonso mangoes compared with Bangalore Alphonso mangoes.
The first and most significant marker is the aroma. Original Alphonso mangoes are grown in the Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra, and they have a distinct sweet and natural fragrance that can fill an entire room. In contrast, other mango varieties often have a much weaker smell. Chemically ripened mangoes do not give off this strong natural aroma. If you have to sniff hard to detect any fragrance, it is most likely not an original Alphonso mango.
In addition to smell, the visual appearance of the mango can also indicate its authenticity. Original Ratnagiri Alphonso mangoes that are naturally ripened should look and feel soft when gently pressed. Chemically ripened mangoes may appear yellow but remain hard to the touch. They also tend to have a uniform colour throughout.
Naturally ripened mangoes usually show colour gradients, with shades of yellow and slight green patches. They should not have wrinkles on the skin when properly ripened.
It should be noted that Bangalore Alphonso mangoes are different from original Ratnagiri Alphonso mangoes and may have their own characteristics. However, the factors mentioned above can still help in identifying the authenticity of any Alphonso mango.
