Nothing stays the same - Chapter 19

Overall summary: Sebastian, Sam, and Abigail have been best friends for years, little changing even as they all grew well into adulthood. Much like everyone else of their generation in Pelican Town, they've struggled to get on their feet and find independence, but the familiar comfort and stability of the way things have always been has been good enough for the three of them. After Sebastian and Sam's ex-friend Mallory returns to town after a decade away, however, they begin to wake up from their sleepy status quo and crave more. At least, Sam and Abigail crave more— Sebastian is afraid that change will shatter everything he holds dear.

A midquel to Coming Around Again, taking place during the events of that fic.

Chapter 19 summary: The Luau comes again, and Sebastian is doing everything he can to make peace with Sam and Abigail's relationship to maintain their tenuous friendship together. He finds himself getting protective and possessive of Mallory and tries to stop himself, but he continues to struggle internally.

abigail was really fun to draw tbh! she made me realize that the shading in stardew is REALLY harsh though and i didnt think it would work for my style, so most of the colors are a little different (i kept her hair though, since its just so pretty)

i've seen people have abigail lean into a more gothic fashion sense, which i do like, but i have to say i like canon more for her. she wants to be an adventurer, so i think the denim vest is more fitting than anything delicate or expensive.

some other notes: i gave her hair some loose strands (and made her jacket a little dirty) to make her look more adventurey and like she's been practicing. i gave her undershirt a swirly pattern because it's always looked like it has some kind of pattern on it to me, and swirls are pretty representative of magic in stardew

now i have to decide if i want to draw her winter/beach outfits the same as canon or not 🤔

Chapter 18 summary: After Mallory receives a threatening call from his mother, Sebastian offers to install a device to block her calls. Maru makes a small comment about the effort he's going to for Mallory that proceeds to get into his head and not let go.

I think it's obvious that I struggled with Leah and Sam the most. I just have no idea what to do for Sam's hair and I just got really tired while shading Leah "-.-

I play with Sikh Harvey as well as the Romani Haley and Emily (Diverse Stardew Valley mod)

I also hc Sebastian as mixed white and Asian, but I don't play with that setting turned on. (I also hc him as a he/him nonbinary man)

I have Leah giant eyebrows so, once I draw Robin you'll be able to differentiate them at a glance

While shading Sam's portrait I realised the brown parts on his jacket were probably supposed to be buttons, but I thought it was a sewn patch. I still opted to draw it as a xenogender flag patch.

Also a tiny little hint of possible Maru x Penny

Yes, that’s Harvey x Abigail from Stardew Valley.

I’m an extreme novice for a lot of this and so I tried to stay as close to the original as possible while still adding my own pizazz. I think I pulled it off. This is the biggest project I’ve tackled to date and I learned so much!
