Honestly, if she had been paying any attention at all she probably would have noticed that the girl wasn't either Elena or Katherine, but with the other two running around in Mystic Falls yet again, she couldn't help but to assume. All she knew was she looked like Elena and Caroline was no where near prepared for that.
