So back in 2014, I remotely participated in a public programme for NASA's Orion Exploration Flight Test-1 (EFT-1). Launched uncrewed on December 5, 2014, atop a Delta IV Heavy rocket, the 4.5-hour test flight successfully orbited Earth twice to rigorously evaluate the spacecraft's heat shield and critical safety systems. I received a personalized "I'm On Board" certificate. A symbolic Frequent Flyer Miles, if you would, and had my name stencilled onto a microchip that flew aboard the Orion capsule during its 4.5-hour test flight (alongside the names of everyone else in the world who participated in the programme).
Now, my name has also been added to a memory card that will be attached to a plaque onboard the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, traveling a million miles away. After launch on August 30, Roman will journey way out to the second Sun-Earth Lagrange point (L2), the same orbit as our James Webb Space Telescope.
I'm not a frequent flyer, but it would seem that my *name* is a dedicated enthusiast of going anywhere that is not on this Earth for a little while....
