Bang Dammit now that I thought the title I have to go reread it.
Bang is part of a collection of stories that were written during an earlier iteration of fandom, so the central joke of it, the vocab in it -- all of it would be verboten today. I think the reason I get as little hate for that story as I do is because it’s older, and a bit grandfathered in with like, due South fanfic or Sentinal stuff, and also that it’s not prominently in peoples’ minds. I end up thinking about stuff like this a lot, about changing social mores and the more extreme changing social mores and vocabulary in fandom especially. Bang, among other stories I wrote a decade or more ago, share a lot of so-called problematic elements that I could probably go back and re-edit, but the idea of it feels...I don’t know, inauthentic? Disingenuous? An attempt to kick some dust over a progression that came slowly, but that shows in the work? It’d feel like going back through my earliest fanfiction with the defter hand I have now to smooth out the ordinary rough edges of bad writing, even, and that would feel like hiding. I guess this is all to say, Bang is a reminder that I will take my bumps sometimes because I have a long and publicly accessible writing history on the internet.

Thanks! I do too, the little square one I think is a piece of safety glass, and it catches rainbows. I actually have a rather large-ish collection of broken glass. Not like that's surprising.

Did you hit the Hannibal panel? Cause I was overfuckingwhelmed at how much they got and loved the fan culture, and now I'm worried that if you were there and saw it differently I like need to reevaluate my standards.
I did! I left early for another panel that I really wanted to see (and which turned out to SUCK, alas such is the risk you run at ComicCon), but from what I saw?
They were absolutely lovely. I'm sure a certain amount of their enthusiasm was due to the fact that they recognize that congoers are a big part of their audience? But almost all of their energy seemed really genuine to me; I mean come on, they put on flower crowns and were nerdy and in the other panel thing they did (which I didn't go see), Dancy even admitted to that time he almost got deported for taking pictures of airport carpet.
I think Fuller absolutely understands and embraces fan culture; I think Dancy probably doesn't quite get it to the same extent, but appreciates the audience. In short, I think they're really honestly as lovely as they seemed.
..I think it cut me off, sorry of you get this twice! 1) I like that Im massively stubborn when trying to accomplish something, and related 2) I like that after a year of trying I get to help rehab birds of prey!
YAY STUBBORNNESS. It's such a great quality, because when you're stubborn you can get through pretty much anything - especially if someone told you you couldn't. So yes, that is a hugely likeable thing about you.
And oh my gosh, you get to rehab birds of prey? THAT IS PRETTY MUCH THE COOLEST. I am so impressed that you kept trying for a year and are finally doing it now; I can't imagine a more incredible feeling than helping falcons and hawks and eagles return to their formerly badass selves. You rock.
