Translating Guridon as "Ornac" is the only way for the joke to make any sense without shoehorning in a translator's note. I don't think it's the worst thing ever.
I get where you’re coming from, and I don’t see it as the worst-thing-in-all-of-fansubbing. At the time I’m sure it sounded like a clever gimmick, but to translate someones entire title for the sake of one joke; it doesn’t seem very well thought out. And yeah, I know Aesir had no way of knowing that joke would never be used again, which is the main reason why it doesn’t bother me as much as it does a lot of other folks. But it doesn’t really make it any less unnecessary and a smidgen disrespectful towards the character.Plus, a translator’s note isn’t a terrible concept when it comes to puns (and gud lawd does Kamen Rider and Super Sentai love they puns).
hey ornac were u the person on French girls who drew my selfie but left ur URL bc if so we have a lot in common
The Mystery of Ornac
These two images were released before the first episode of Kamen Rider Gaim aired; both of them serving as public reveals of the main Riders for the 2014 series. You may notice a strange addition in both of them: Armored Rider Gridon.
It's important to notice that these weren't supposed to be showing EVERY Rider in the series, as you can tell with Bravo missing when he's been so important, but were only meant to show the stars of the show.
So what is Gridon doing there anyway? Was he originally going to have a much more prevalent roll in the series before the final re-writes were through? Will he turn out to be one of the main characters, most influencing the plot by the end of the series?
It's a mystery for the ages.
what i've noticed with this.. whateveritsactuallycalled is that we watch like one episode of something then just go on to music.
[12:44:37 PM] hawthorn: Nice! I love it! This is some really swell web content, fellas.
DEAR GAIM FANS WHO INSIST ON WATCHING AESIR SUBS WHO ALSO INSIST ON BITCHING ABOUT ORNAC
Download raw episode (Otherwise what you're about to do will overlap the subtitles already there and look funky in places)
Download the script.
Open said script in a text editor
Use said text editors find and replace function to replace Ornac with Gridon.
Save
Open the episode in your media player of choice (media player classic with CCCP is what I use, and you should be using it as well because its wonderful.)
Using the Load Subtitles options, navigate to where you saved the sub file and load it.
Enyoy your KIDS SHOW ABOUT FRUIT WARRIORS Alternately the easy way to remedy this problem is thusly Don't like don't watch. I think someone named NDAnon is doing a translation that falls somewhere between TVN and Aesirs sub styling. Find that. In fact there are like 6 sub groups doing Gaim. If you don't like one find one of the other 5.
It just had to be done. Credits to poster DJ Sagara http://boards.4chan.org/m/res/9940847#p9944500 for writing the fake lyrics and Aesirsubs for the time scripts that i based this video on.
