It is interesting how misinformation proliferates. Wikipedia says Plan 9 from Outer Space is public domain but i can find no evidence of it. Looking it up in the copyright registry it appears to have been renewed in 1983. Meaning it is in copyright until 2053 but everyone seems to accept it as public domain

The weird thing is, like the rights holder Reynolds Pictures doesnt appear to be active and things like the comics and the 2015 remake were done seemingly without any involvement with them and the full movie is up on youtube and wikipedia without protest from anyone.

So this may be a case of an "Orphan Work" where the rights holder is either not really known or doesn't seem to care.

I recently tried to find something from a fandom (Doctor Who) and it was gone!!!! I can't tell you how often this happens and the reason I don't save stuff is because I have over 1 thousands booksmarks on ao3 alone! My computer can't handle that shit!

I recently went to read some of my old work which was on fanfiction.net and yeah…it was really really bad because it was written when I was in highschool. I'm going to do an update and upload to ao3. I won't delete though because that history! Please please don't delete.

Orphan if necessary.

If your work is offensive then go back and add an update but omg. I'm just devastated about a one-shot going missing.

Okay, so I wanna orphan a fic I wrote, but it says that doing that will remove “all identifying data” from it and I just want to know if that includes author’s notes too. Because I just added a note explaining why I decided to orphan the story and it would be pointless to type out that note if it’s not even gonna stay there after I hit “confirm”.
