comparisons are odious
Chevy had a complex with leaving home. Leaving was curative -- to disappear would heal her soul. The mates in her class had a tendency to follow her home, to tell her off. She didn’t mind for the most part, she knew better. Albeit often time she was not willing to stick around. To her, the train was superlative. Beautifully made, hand crafted by the expertise of District 6. It was an honor to travel in its meticulously designed carts, the soft seats, gaze out the large clean windows.
It never took too long to travel from district to district, and therefore, she’d generated a fund strictly for travel. Her dad didn’t know, of course. He’d assumed she was out with friends -- studying...more or less doing something she definitely didn’t want to do. She’d never been to 10 before. Typically she’d travel to the bordering districts --7, 3. She had friends there.
But 10 was a different story. It was undiscovered territory. Her desire to disclose made it difficult to stay away. It was next on her list. And so, after school, she’d packed a lunch and made it apparent that she’d decided to travel.
After arriving, Chevy began to eat -- she pulled out her sandwich, looking painfully out of place along with several others who had exited the train. Several moments after crossing the threshold a sound rung loudly inside the station. The doors of the train closed, and immediately it was off to discover more ‘uncharted’ lands.
She wandered for awhile, her shoes muddy with the land underneath. The cows were fascinating to her. She watched them for awhile, wondering if they did things other than graze, wag their tails -- moo. The girl pondered for a moment before checking for others. Ensuring she was along, Chevy hopped the fence, wandering into the green pasture. A tiny furred animal caught her attention. Was that a cat? She couldn’t remember seeing a cat. It laid out on the grass, but quickly decided to move after it realized it was being pursued. Chevy followed it, hoping to get a few pets in.
