she smiled. she had to admit that she smiled so quickly, so widely and so hard that the sudden movement of the muscles of her face made her face hurt a bit. when was she not smiling in chevy’s presence? that was a great question to ask because the answer was so simple. because she never stopped. the mere thought of the other put a smile on her face. it was weird, a bit unsettling but all too true. and athena couldn’t really deny that fact anymore.
her fingers settled on the others hips, not at all fazed by the younger putting her weight on her. she loved the way chevy’s hair fell onto her face, tickling her skin a bit. it was long and silky – athena usually played with it when she could.
with the nip of the cheek, she’s gone. drowned in everything that was chevrolette. it didn’t matter that the heated tin was making her a bit uncomfortable. the sun didn’t annoy her. she was just much more focused on chevy than anything else. athena would miss what the other was saying if she didn’t love her voice so damn much. she’s hanging on every word without meaning to, smiling and nodding almost automatically.
“why can’t we lay a while?” she asks with mock reluctance. it was more than obvious that athena would do anything the younger wanted. and though athena would like nothing more than to have chevy against her, playing with her hair a bit languidly, she wasn’t going to tell her ‘no’. she could risk the smile falling off of her face.
the way the moved showed the stark difference in their personalities: chevy was more energetic and eager to lead athena to where she wanted to go. while athena strolled leisurely behind her, calmly and effortlessly coming down from the garage’s roof. she followed chevy’s path, moving with much more grace and expertise than the other did. climbing and scaling walls and fences were nothing to her. and though chevy mostly did similar things, it came more sloppily as chevy wasn’t trained to be able to scale a tree and kill someone overhead as athena was.
it was probably why she enjoyed the other so much. among several other reason.
her eyes flittered across the approaching truck, questioning why chevy would show it to her. yet before the younger speaks, it clicks almost instantly – because chevrolette always seemed to do something with purpose. and why else would she show athena a car? “you made this.” it came out as more of a statement than an inquiry requiring confirmation. though her eyes sparked with something – pride – similar that her own mother looked like when athena manages for forge her own blades. it was amazing, what people can do.
from the glistening car that seemed to be bathed ethereal light in the afternoon sun to the girl who looked just as ethereal sitting in it, athena’s lips pulled into a smile. though she remained just outside of the truck, unsure if she should climb in or not. “are you sure you want to go into the sunset?” she asks with a playful smirk. “you might burn, kid.”
sighs and simpers -- chevy relishes in the moments she gets to spend with athena. they’re like fairy tales, quips of stories that come in short yet magical timelines, leaving her breathless and wanting more. never finished. she is a princess, and athena is her rescuer, who takes her to faraway places. a world away from everything that ailed her.
when their eyes meet, chevy saw something more than irises of deep brown. she saw molding contact, her lips on athena’s -- meeting in a consumption of passion, setting her chest aflame.
she didn’t mean to think that way, it just happened. it made her stumble over her own thoughts, producing an unnecessary difficulty in regards to speech. it took a while to reclaim her mind, after it had been tarnished.
“maybe.” she responded, the corner of her lip pulling upward as she glances toward her friend. “i just want something more than this, you know? what lies beyond this world...i wonder.” chevy bounced her shoulders. she paused for a moment, then let herself down from the back of the truck after noting athena’s hesitance. after her feet were back on the gravel, she placed her palm on the vehicle’s surface, letting it glide as she took a step toward the other girl.
“yeah, i made it. with lots of spit and duct tape.” with a giggle, chevy observes her own work. it took her so long to get to the point it was at, and yet, it was relatively far from being finished. “the transmission needs some work, but i mean-- it’s getting there. pretty, isn’t it?”
her eyes pondered, finding the sky. the glimmer of sunset pierced the horizon, causing for chevy to emit a huff. “would you run away with me?” her hand left the truck, then rested on athena’s arm. “just you and me. somewhere far off.” where we can be together. although, she was not exactly sure what she meant by ‘together’.
diamonds are a girl’s...
She was tired. So, so tired. She started out every day working at her parents’ jewelry shop tired, and she ended every day just as tired. No matter the day of the week, the stream of customers was relentless, and putting on an impeccable salesgirl front when a sharp migraine was flaring up just behind her eyes was tasking enough. It was easy enough to sell rubies cut to be comfortably embedded into flesh, or five-foot strands of genetically engineered freshwater pearls the size of large peas, almost as easy as making a fish swim. Hell, she’d managed to convince a woman to purchase a dress constructed entirely of bright white crystals fastened to an elaborate cage of wire, at a price that could likely have fed all of District 11, when she’d come in merely to have her wedding ring refurbished.
Games season was nearing, a close connection to a victor was often enough to bring customers in. Her bright smile, regardless of how feigned it was, was enough to keep them. But her face hurt from smiling, and her head ached, and these new ridiculous shoes her mother had insisted she wear were pinching her feet and bringing on a dull throbbing in her ankles and all she wanted to do was curl up in her window seat at home and nap. Maybe for days, if she could manage it.
After a man purchased an elaborate woken choker dripping with pink sapphires for his daughter, the afternoon rush lulled, giving Cel a moment, even if it was just a moment, to rest, to brace her elbows on the nearest plexiglass display case and brace her head in the heels of her hands. The migraine was not subsiding, was worsening, in fact, with the new addition of a subtle ringing in her ears. Or were those footsteps punctuating the rare moment of silence?
She glanced up at the newcomer, a girl, who, despite her natural beauty, was too obviously plain in her dress and her manner to be local. It was a surprise, to say the least, to see the outsider gawking at the display of gems Cel reluctantly took for granted. Cel’s bias against those from her own district caused her to find a bit of elation in interacting with a visitor. It was endearing as well, the look on the girl’s face, and though Cel’s migraine still persisted, she found a pleasant, if not brief, distraction in the stranger.
“Hi there,” she cleared her throat and smiled a bit, genuinely for once, trying not to reveal her amusement, “Can I help you?”
so enticed with the jewels, chevy hardly heard the shopkeepers inquiry. in fact, for several moments it flew right over her head. she blinked, staring directly at the gems before she finally lifted her gaze. a smile immediately replaced her gawking. pretty. the first thing that came to the district 6 native’s mind or rather, finally someone who didn’t look at her like she was meat. moreover a lost puppy. but still. not meat.
“yes -- i mean, not really.” chevy shrugged, a bit embarrassed she’d been caught so wide eyed. if her foreigner status wasn’t obvious before, it would have been after that. “i can’t afford anything.” an honest statement. hopefully it would not disappoint the other woman. there was probably not a lack of people in district 1 who could afford them, but chevy didn’t know if it was rude or not -- to walk into a store and not buy anything. she couldn’t help it. she’d never seen rocks like these in person. she wished she had enough money for one.
however, her curiosity grew. “but...these rocks. jewels? how do they get this way?” she’d traveled past the quarry in district 12, but there never sat anything shimmering. there were many metamorphic shades, brown, grey, black -- the phyllite of the earth jabbing out from every which way, looking sharp and uninviting. but never sparkly or brightly colored. the prettiest colour she had ever seen a rock was white, flecks of dirt garnishing its surface.
what made a shiny rock so expensive? its rarity? beauty? chevy continued to look at one of the jewels. she observed its structure, wondering where it came from and why it was so beautiful.
♡ hi everybody. did you know that orbis is over a month old now?? so thank you to everyone who has made this place possible and thank you for sticking around. i love each and every one of you. ♡
on another note, i don’t have too many plots set up at the moment. if we are plotting on aim please shoot me another message because i have a tendency to forget things really fast. i should probably go get that checked out lol but otherwise let’s plot! this kiddo needs s’more friends, some more enemies, the works. i have a few replies i need to work on so if you happen to decide to hit me up and i don’t respond right away that’s probably what i am doing (or attempting to do) but i love you you are beautiful or handsome or both and u make me happy yes

He hadn’t thought this far but it woke him up; he felt lighter than before, airy with possibilities. Countless words could be said, commanded, and he felt each of them rise to fill his chest like clumsy balloons. They swelled and spread and Noel felt dizzy for a moment, though the feeling faded, his settings settled.
“And where would home be?” he asked, hoping a refinement of identity would help him choose the best retort. He would string together the perfect syllables to form a pleasant situation, though he doubted what she felt was carefree.
It wasn’t entirely her fault: she had only gotten lost, the aftermath of distraction, the consequence of not planning. Even then, Noel was a punishment that required a more active participation in the world. He felt he was karma–whoever met him were on the wrong track, they needed to be straightened, the dents hammered out.
Quietly, he wondered what she had done. He noticed her hair, her eyes, crafted lavish stories that involved murder and theft, all revolving around her. Perhaps she had done something that even he, macabre by nature, couldn’t imagine. The thought excited him, let a smile flit onto his lips. They tilted, curved, holding his amusement in the line they drew. He thought to say more but he let the air soak up the suspense, thickening like honey.
His response failed to soothe her. Chevy could feel her heart rate accelerate, his voice feeling like an omen toward imminent danger. Perhaps she was jumping to conclusions but the people of District 1 did seem to be geared toward selfless deeds. There was no sixth sense in her telling her it was not safe to speak to him, it was simply her own meekly, frightened intuition triggering her fight or flight and with that her body definitely wanted to flee.
But she couldn’t be rude. She hated how she couldn’t be rude. “2″ but she could lie. “I’m from 2.” the girl’s expression managed to harden, there was no turning back once it had erupted from her mouth. She didn’t need to know how to get back to 6, she just needed to know how to get back to the train. “I was in town, ...spending my allowance, and I got turned around.” she paused, then hoped that would suffice, thinking it better to stop herself before she went off on a tangent of fibs.
If her mother were alive Chevy would’ve received a beating. She valued honestly above all other traits. Knowing of that, the girl felt a pang of guilt. But it didn’t stop her. It was smart. There was no sense in telling a stranger where she was from. She didn’t know what he would have done with that information. Call her superstitious, but she had heard one too many stories of people being followed back home, only to have been met with fates worse than death.
Besides, if psychopaths emerged from anywhere, it would have been District 1. It never failed to perplex her -- how kids could willingly sacrifice their childhoods to become careers. To dedicate each and every day towards learning how to mold and manipulate their entire beings to become deadly, murderous -- to lose their humanity. It was beyond her understanding.
09. Who taught your muse how to fight?
technically, no one. but she’s observed many of her friends fight. she knows a few careers and they’ve displayed the ropes to her, but she’s never really had any interest in learning how to fight herself. it would make the games all too real for her. plus, she’s too busy with the garage to ever buckle down and learn how to throw a punch. chevy is more interested in fixing vehicles than breaking someones face.
This smile is all ♥
`* ten feet // { kana & chevy }
kana isn’t one easily satisfied. she sits through her classes, taking in as much information as possible, applying it as she can to get her further when she inevitably volunteers for the games. the other knowledge, she places in a different category in the corner of her brain– useless, to discard as soon as the teachers give a test and move on to other subjects. she does well in school, because she can’t do less than well in anything, and she considers anything that keeps her mind sharp an advantage– worthwhile.
after her traditional classes come classes in weapons, training in combat and strategy. she’s attentive for hours, and when the academy finally lets out, she still doesn’t rest– still never satisfied. some days, she wanders, tries to free her mind or learn more about the careers in the other high districts. most times, however, she finds an open space, out of the way, between her village and the closest mining area. here, the trees are less sporadic and the grass stretches for longer without the interruption of roads or buildings.
she spins a knife in between her fingers like it’s as light as a stick and flips it like a yoyo, easily catching it by the hilt in her hand again. she narrows her eyes, then shuts one, using the other to zero in on her makeshift target on a tree a good ten feet away. she’s practiced here so many times that she even carved her own target into the bark to aid practice, and there are tiny nicks in the bark from each time her knife either chipped away at it with a toss or stuck into it after thrown with enough force.
she inhales, exhales, then steadies herself before she throws the knife with deadly precision and it hits the exact center of the target, sticking steadfast out of the tree.
ten feet is too easy.
chevy considered herself a wanderer by trade.
she was a mechanic (a good one!), but she was a freelance explorer, too. she’d gone on plenty of orbis tours. not including the several districts she had yet to visit, including 2. it seemed outlandish, like a mixture of 1 and 12. luxurious mining, for pretty things like jewels and diamonds instead of coal. and in the city, weapon stores lined the streets. what exactly did they need weapons for? chevy held onto the straps of her backpack, wide eyes observing her surroundings before a subtle noise could be heard several yards away. at first, her instinct is to hide. but she knew better. she was in a relatively safe place. although people in the higher districts had a tendency to be very condescending, they rarely posed any sort of real threat.
she poked her head out from behind a tree, idly blinking at the sight before her. a female with precise skill in throwing knives. she’d never seen anyone like this in 6. it was simply unheard of. it fascinated her, along with most everything in the higher districts. attempting to keep her presence a secret, chevy gulped, then watched in silence for a while. she’d nearly flinch every time a knife would jar itself into the tree trunk. there was a part of chevy that knew the girl throwing them was in complete and utter control of where the knives were landing.
from there on, she wasn’t entirely sure on what was appropriate. did she turn away? pretend like the extraordinary occurrence hadn’t happened… no, that simply wasn’t her. chevy decided it was best to approach the person throwing knives in a timely and calm fashion. so, the girl put herself out in the open. there was no turning back, even if what she had just done might have meant she would get a knife through the heart. if the female was competent enough to land a bulls eye each and every time a knife left her hand, she was competent enough to hear chevy’s clumsy feet against the dirty ground.
“excuse me?” she spoke, her eyebrows scrunching for a second before she’d figured out what she wanted to say – “how did you learn how to do that? that’s amazing.”
bated breath
Kisses of putrid humidity grace her skin as her lungs are infiltrated by oxygen. The air is heavy with intrigue as the sun begins to lower itself in the sky and the warm weather pierces her alabaster frame, the kind of joyous heat wherein going indoors seemed frivolous; when outside felt more at home than in. Deep spring, Chevy called it. The time of year when love was in full bloom along with its botanical counterpart, cherry blossoms. She loved them. Despite their girlish colour.
She loved Athena. In a way she didn’t understand. Like second nature. Always was, always will be. In love.
Fragmented thoughts busy her mind as fingers entangle loosely within the long wavy tresses of her own hair. She didn’t like district 2 at all, save for the one she liked. The one that made the unbearable bearable and the saddening joyful. Joy. Was the word that came to mind. Nothing else. Truly elated, a feeling further evolved than happy. Joyful. Of course thoughts and reasons never left her brain. They were hers, under lock and key. Chevy cherished them, they were the foundation to her own made-up world. One where touches and brushes were exercised without question, where breath could be felt on the crook of her neck and nails could be felt drawing down the arch of her back. An enigma of sort. She didn’t know why she thought that way. Her heart wanted her to. Her body wanted her to.
She wondered who she was and who she belonged to. She wanted desperately to fumble elsewhere and to escape the reaping once and for all. But no where else seemed as lovely as right where Athena was and it drove her mad. Chevy was a prisoner to her heart and a slave to her desires and so forth they had not even been realized.
“Where do we go from here?” She spoke with a signature grin – her question may have regarded direction but her underlying inquiry was meant toward them. Where were they in their journey together? Surely they’d never be apart. The trouble was figuring out where the two of them were going, and if they were going there together.
14. Your muse is captured. How do they react?
one moment she is on the ground - the next gravity is promptly removed from underneath her feet. she is hoisted upwards by her ankles, and with a yell of discontent, finally kept hanging upside down. the rope swings her for a moment, meanwhile her thoughts move in discombobulated circles. chevy’s breathing is hard but she knows better than to cry out.
once the situation makes sense to her she lifts herself up, but doesn’t make much progress to set herself free. “uhg” is all that slips past her lips, despite a feeling that someone now knew her exact location and with that she was entirely vulnerable. this is the end she thought to herself. not that she expected some noble death, but surely being caught by a human-sized trap was not exactly what she had in mind. “...hello? anyone?” chevy speaks freely but in a subtle whisper, one that most likely only lifted a few steps. she could only hope that someone friendly was within earshot.

babydoll
the invitation had been weighing on her mind for days. surely, she missed the other – arguably her best friend at the moment – more than she’d like to admit. besides, her visits to district six seemed to happen more often than she’d care to mention. though her family and peers would just love to question why she spent her free time with people of an economically and socially lower rung than she.
sometimes athena was sure she’d like to question it herself.
the skies were clear and the air smelt of smoke, grease and molten metal – the familiar scents of the district that she’s become all too familiar with. she was sure the smell would stick to her on the way home but it also reminded her that she’d also smell like chevy, who she’d spend most of her day with.
the thought made her smile, which only grew as she approached the garage where the bubbly female was at more often than not. little grease monkey, athena would fondly call her. though it was delivered with a mischievous smirk and her fingers working in the younger’s hair to muss up her hair slightly.
at the side of the garage she pushed herself forward, her boot connecting with the walls of the garage as she thrusted herself off of the exterior. her hands gripped on the edge, lifting herself over with minimum difficulty. she stayed crouched on the garage’s edge, watching chevy with a secret grin. as if the scene before her was hers for the taking. in a way, athena thought it to be true. chevy was hers. in a way, at least.
“having a nice day dream?” she asked cooly, stepping onto the heated surface of the building. “you always look like you’re having the time of your life.” though it wasn’t a bad thing. chevy seemed to look at thing more positively than athena ever could. opposites attract and it couldn’t be ever truer in their situation. “i missed you, grease monkey.” her footsteps ceased once she reached chevy. athena crouched down, pushing her legs out to lay down next to her friend.
friend. it was a strange but nice word. one that she always associated with chevy. it made her heart warm. it made her genuinely smile. a more softer side that only chevy seemed to be able to see.
“’aww i missed you, too.” chevy wasn’t surprised by the other’s sudden attendance. the grin on her face only grew. without a second thought, chevy teetered onto athena, then clumsily wrapped her arms around her figure. fully leaning into the other girl’s form, chevy nipped at her check (her own special greeting), then promptly rolled off.
“’course i always have the time of my life when you’re around! what do you expect?” the girl bounced her shoulders, then realized the two hadn’t even exchanged hello’s. “glad you’re here...get up. we’ve got work to do.” she spoke slyly, the insinuation adhering her tone blatantly asserting chevy had absolutely no plans of working.
she clasped her hands, then immediately sprouted upwards. she enjoyed the sound of her shoes colliding with the tin roof.
posthaste chevrolette walked on her toes until coming to the edge of the building. “c’mon!” she giggled then slid down onto the pavement below the roof. she had a way of always getting ahead of herself. after she’d reached the asphalt, chevy hopped the fence into the space behind the garage. several cars were scattered around the yard, their hoods propped open.
it was her safe haven. she’d often skip class to work on them. it was a distraction. she didn’t have to think about the reaping next month while her hands were busy on meeting a more important deadline. but her favourite -- her truck. her dad had called it that, anyway. it was merely a collection of left-over parts. things that had to be replaced, removed, tossed. she’d managed to make it start...to make something wonderful out of trash. and she was proud of it.
chevy wasn’t sure if athena knew it existed yet. she was nervous to show her friend the work she’d done. chevy just wanted to impress her.
with a deep breath, the girl motioned for athena to follow her, a grin on her face as she hoisted herself into the back of the truck. it was painted golden, the shimmery color glistening under the high-light of the bright sun. “let’s drive away into the sunset.” even though we might need to make a few pit stops on the way.
No-one is more cherished in this world than someone who lightens the burden of another.

bad peace
even with the isolation that training for the games required, noel had never lost his solidarity with his district. there was a difference between him and those of lower districts and the differences were readily apparent, almost vulgar in their stark contrast. he could pluck them out like flowers from a shrub, seashells off a shore.
he did it now as he walked along his way him, the only day of rest he had earned after a month. his lips pursed and slackened with each step, as though pattering along as well.
his attention gathered on a young woman who walked with a heavy weight on her shoulders, back curved, eyes frantic. noel didn’t always tease but he felt lighthearted, silly from the relief he had experienced that day.
the path he followed careened and derailed, attention tugging him from the neat strokes of his legs to the woman. he thought of ways to approach her, never deciding on whether to frighten her, to truly toy with her, or to simply help her along. life was unexpected, and he would be sure to play the part.
“you aren’t form around here, are you?” he declared when he was in her sight, when he was close enough to be heard.
Frantic wouldn’t even begin to explain her attitude. She kept herself still, only showing signs of her discomfort by sweeping her eyes back and forth. A part of her wanted so badly to disappear. Normally, Chevy wasn’t bad with directions. Forgetting her way back was unheard of. Swallowing hard, she prayed that her dad wouldn’t notice she was gone longer than she’d claimed she’d be out.
With a deep breath, she began to hum. It kept her calm. She thought of home, how nice it would be to be back in the garage. The smell of gasoline and the slippery texture of oil.
She tried to blink it all away. She was the type to daydream, like maybe if she managed to wish hard enough the universe would voluntarily poof her back to district 6. But with each and every eye opening moment, District 1 still took form. Letting that thought go, Chevy grabbed the straps of her backpack then huffed.
Mentally lost, she jumped at the sound of a male voice. She was immediately pessimistic. Perhaps her presence had offended someone. It wouldn’t have surprised her. “No, I’m not.” Chevy spoke, professedly. She’d been taught not to speak to strangers, but that was difficult while she was lost. “I’m sorry, I can go -- really, I just got lost on my way home”
Don’t let fear trick you into thinking life is anything but beautiful, be brave and get hurt and get back up and find the guts to be brave again.

bad peace
So far, District 1 seemed rather interesting. It was bustling, to say the least. So many people. They seemed happy, too. In the lower districts, no one looked pleased to work. They didn’t smile at strangers, they didn’t say hello when they passed you on the street. But people here -- acted as if the games were wonderful...and as if nothing was wrong with the world they lived in.
Chevy had never been to the Capitol, but she thought about the people there. She could imagine them. They enjoyed the games even more so. It gave her a nervous feeling, as if there was a possibility that the people around her would take pleasure in watching her tortured.
She slouched, placing her hands safely in her pockets as her pace began to quicken. She wasn’t particularly enjoying her tour of District 1. She didn’t fit in -- and it showed. Chevy knew she didn’t belong in District 1. It was mid-afternoon. Perhaps it was soon time to return home.
Her eyes were frantic. She’d forgotten how to get back to the train station. With a sigh, Chevy moved off to the side, hoping that she’d go unnoticed.
