I really love the miya twins initially getting off on the wrong foot with each other's significant others
so imagine an osayachi scenario
they're meeting at onigiri miya, and initially it's all three of them and things are going somewhat okay, but the twins are fighting and it's def a bit overwhelming to poor yachi.
however the moment osamu gets into the kitchen or whatever, atsumu leans over to yachi and goes "so what makes ya think yer good enough fer my brother, huh?"
and like. he has absolutely nothing against her. from what osamu has told him, she's sweet and funny and makes him happy. he's simply looked forward to giving osamu's partner the shovel talk ever since he found out that's a thing people do. he's smiling while he asks. he's not serious. he's having fun.
however, yachi does not pick up on that. she's terribly in love with osamu and hasn't yet figured out any reason why he likes her back. and now here's his terrifying brother, demanding she justify her place in his life, and she's certain nothing she could say could ever come close to satisfying him. she's imagining atsumu snapping her frail body cleanly in half or serving a volleyball directly into her face, shattering her skull into a million pieces.
she starts crying. drops to the floor in dogeza and starts begging to be left alive despite her unworthiness.
now it's atsumu's turn to panic. osamu kept telling him to be nice, she's sensitive.
hearing osamu come back, atsumu picks yachi off the floor and books it out of the restaurant.
yachi is now close to passing out, sure atsumu is kidnapping her and taking her into a back alley for the kill. it takes her a while to listen to anything atsumu says (it doesn't help that they probably are indeed in a back alley somewhere) but she does eventually realize atsumu is begging her to stop crying because samu will kill him if he finds out atsumu made her cry.
this in turn only makes yachi cry more because now the twins' relationship will fall apart simply because she overreacted and she doesn't want to be responsible for that she knows how important his brother is to osamu.
it takes atsumu like a good 20 minutes to convince her he was kidding and they can totally salvage this she just needs to stop crying and then they both need to just need to make sure osamu never finds out any of this ever happened and they're golden.
yachi initially feels bad about lying, especially when osamu definitely doesn't believe whatever nonsense they come up with why they suddenly ran off for 20 minutes, but they stick to their story until he stops asking, and atsumu winks at her like "see? it's fun to be part of a scheme!"
so all is well
they probably do a similar song and dance a couple more times until they get used to each other, after which they become besties much to osamu's chagrin.
Summary: Miya Osamu has just a regular cooking youtube channel. Yachi Hitoka has just a regular art youtube channel. But a series of collabs between them have their fans abuzz with speculations about their relationship. They very much are NOT dating no matter how much Osamu wishes the opposite.

You guys know they’re real people, right? I’m sorry about these idiots Samu.
NoPayJustGay
Im sorry but why are 99.99% of the thirst comments about Samu? HELLO?? LOOK AT YACHI??? my princess is unappreciated ಠ ೧ ಠ
Osamu’s blush deepened as he read more and more of the comments flooding his post. It had only been up for thirty minutes, but his followers had already racked up thousands of likes and comments. All of the comments about ‘OsaYachi’ —as their fans called it—were definitely getting to Osamu’s head. The pretty artist would never look at him twice, but Osamu settled with that as long as he could be her friend. She was the sweetest person he’d ever met and he was forever in debt to his dumbass brother who still couldn’t cook worth a damn.
Osamu had not been posting on youtube for very long. He first started out two years ago, occasionally posting recipes to teach his idiot brother how to cook more than instant noodles. He blew up after the streamer Kodzuken gave him a shoutout for an apple pie recipe, and what was once a channel of low-quality videos of Osamu being rude and snarky while giving cooking lessons became a channel of high-quality videos of Osamu being rude and snarky while giving cooking lessons. He wasn’t a huge fan of saying rude things to an audience that wasn’t ‘Tsumu, but by the time he blew up, that was already his brand.
And then came Yachi.

Hinata Shoyou grins at the camera. The background of his view is a hotel room overlooking a city.
Hinata: “Hey, guys! I’m out in Hyogo with my best friend Yachi!”
Hinata pulls Yachi in frame and drapes an arm around her shoulder. Yachi waves nervously.
Hinata: “If you don’t know her, you should! She draws the best drawings!”
Yachi blushes.
Yachi: “Shoyou-kun…”
Hinata squeezes her in a side-hug.
Hinata: “You can’t be modest on my channel, Yacchan! Anyway, I’m out here for the sights! The tastes! We’re going on a food crawl. Shoutout to @hungiri.miya for the rec list! Follow him. He’s the best! Link’s below.

Hinata Shoyou was an incredibly popular vlogger, so the shout out brought an even larger amount of people to Osamu’s channel. Osamu was grateful for that, but he was more grateful for Yachi’s presence in the video. He was completely enamored with Yachi. Watching her cute reactions to the restaurants he had recommended was wonderful. He’d only hoped he could take her out to some others himself at some point. And it seemed luck was in his favor. Yachi reached out to him about his favorite sights in Hyogo to make videos for her drawing channel. They haven’t gone out to a restaurant as of yet, but Osamu was hoping to ask her after he settled his Onigiri Miya Tokyo branch. But that didn’t stop them from collaborating.
Osamu’s first couple collabs with Yachi were filmed separately. His favorite was the time Yachi took a painstaking amount of time animating a short clip of Osamu describing good donburi seasoning, and when he made a DrawMeYachi-themed bento box. But nothing was like finally meeting her in person. Even though it was ages ago, he was still reeling at the memories.
Yachi’s filming office was humble while still cute. She had her regular drawing desk, a large collection of stuffed animals on wall shelves. The sun cast a perfect haze through a window in the corner and Osamu could just picture her on a Sunday morning, doodling. What her concentration face like when she drew? Did she puff out her cheeks when she was frustrated? Did she stick her tongue out when she worked? Did she keep her long hair down or pulled back to keep it from touching the paper? Yachi rarely showed her face in her videos, so he really couldn’t tell. Yachi’s voice cut him out of his thoughts.
“So, I know it’s pretty tight in here. So I’ve been in the process of moving my filming things into the living room. And I just bought some new things. I’ve been in a rush, I’m so sorry I’m not prepared!” She bowed sharply.
Osamu chuckled. “It’s okay, Yachi-san. I know you have an actual job outside of this.” He gently guided her back up by her shoulder. “I’m more than capable of lugging around a couple light stands.”
“Wh-What?” Yachi said. She waved her hands in front of her. “No, no. I couldn’t ask that of you, Miya-san.”
Osamu shook his head, already walking to pick up a stand. “Don’t be ridiculous.” He flashed her a smile. “Who would I be if I let a cute girl carry things by herself?”
Yachi’s face reddened. “I—I can carry my things. I’m not delicate, you know!”
Osamu straightened up, shrugging. “I believe it. But, just because ya can, doesn’t mean ya hafta do it alone.”
Yachi’s expression faded to a small smile. “Then, thank you, Miya-san.” She reached over to pick up some of her equipment.
Osamu considered her for a moment. He already flirted with her, so why not? “Call me Osamu.”
“Huh?”
“Call me Osamu,” he repeated. “Miya’s too formal.”
“Uh…”
He lifted a finger. “I won’t film with ya if ya don’t.”
“Wha?” Yachi’s eyes widened. “Well…” She averted her gaze, fumbling with the strap of a bag. “Then call me Hitoka.”
Osamu grinned. “Sure thing, Hitoka-san.”
Yachi nodded fervently in embarrassment. “Okay, O-Osamu-san.”
So the answers to his questions were as follows:
1. Hitoka’s concentration-face included an intense gaze, a scrunched nose, and a small pout.
2. When frustrated, Hitoka let out a little growl and slapped her cheeks with her hands.
3. Hitoka held her hair up with a cute purple butterfly clip and she occasionally brushed aside a loose strand when it got in her face.
It was perfect. Now, whenever he watched her videos, he knew exactly what to picture. He was still soaking in everything, as he sat down in front of the camera to film the intro.
“Hello, everyone!” Yachi flashed two peace signs just under her chin. He was gonna die, it was so cute. Like something in a magical-schoolgirl manga panel. “Today, I have a special guest. We’ve collabed before, but this is our first time together in the same place! Miya Osamu from Hungiri-Miya!”
Osamu gave a two-finger salute then gave Yachi a silly bow. “It’s an honor to be here.”
Yachi giggled. “You’re acting like we’ve never met before.”
Osamu’s expression stretched into a fox-like grin. “In person is different from online.”
Yachi waved his face away and turned to address the camera. “Tsukki, please edit that out.”
Osamu snickered behind his hand.
“Okay. Okay. So, today I’m going to go over how to draw a portrait. Or how to draw Osamu-san, I guess. We’re going to do a headshot. I’m going to start with the template I recommended in my facial anatomy basics video, which I’ll put a link to in the corner. Now, Osamu-san, I’ll have you sit here…”
Osamu let himself be her mannequin as Yachi explained how to set up for a live portrait.
He couldn’t help but stare at the sparkle in her eyes as she talked to the camera. One could’ve thought Osamu was the one drawing with how much his eyes were fixed on her.
“...Okay, now that we have the right proportions, we’ll focus on Osamu-san’s specific features. So for his eyes…”
After a while, it seemed like Yachi was just going to plow all the way through the video. Osamu could tell by the way she shook her hand from cramping that they should probably take a break.
Yachi sat back from where she was hunched over. “And now we can—AH!” Yachi looked over her easel, where Osamu was sitting pulling a very ugly face.
“Osamu-san! How long were you doing that?!”
Osamu’s face fell into a goofy grin. “Mm, probably since the last time you looked at me, maybe ten years ago.” He wagged a finger. “Shouldn’t you be using your reference more, Hime-chan? Or have ya memorized my face already?”
Yachi turned pink, stammering. “That—I—I just—Sometimes I get so focused I—um—”
Osamu laughed. “I’m just teasin’ ya.” His expression softened. “It’s nice to see ya focused on something you’re passionate about.”
Yachi’s blush deepened. “Oh. Thank you,” she said in a meek voice.
“How about we take a break, yeah?”
“Oh.” Yachi turned red. “I’m so sorry! You must be so tired from sitting there. Would you like some tea?” She nearly knocked over her easel standing up, but Osamu quickly stopped her with a gentle hand to her arm.
He smiled, then turned to stop the cameras from rolling. “Tea sounds good. And how ‘bout I whip up a treat?”
“I couldn’t possibly—”
“I insist. Can’t have ya become a starvin’ artist now.”
And indeed Yachi was every bit of an organized mess that Osamu thought she was. He unconsciously found himself straightening things up a little in her fridge. It was an old habit from visiting Tsumu, and he had to restrain himself from doing too much. He had a feeling Yachi would be embarrassed if he did.
“Alright, well, if you’re making a treat, I insist you stay for dinner. I’m no chef like you, but I’ve been told my curry is good.”
Osamu perked up. “You cook, Hitoka-san?”
Yachi’s editor had had a field day with the fanservice. He refrained from editing out a lot of things he should have. Namely, Osamu’s awkward attempts at playful flirting. He could still remember some of the comments on their video:

And then there were the comments on the collab video they dropped two weeks ago. All of their in-person videos had been filmed in Yachi’s apartment, and this video was the first time he’d had her in his kitchen.

They have to be living together right? Nobody can make this many collabs back to back and not be living together.
Well, his fans were correct sometimes. Osamu was running back and forth to Tokyo preparing for Onigiri Miya’s second location. He crashed at Akaashi’s place, but spent the rest of his time filming with Yachi and eating out at her favorite places. It was a bit of a bummer, but he had to decrease the frequency of his posts, often much shorter than he’d like, but running and business took a lot of work. Still, he’d made sure to make time for Yachi.
Yachi, then, had stayed at his place for a few days while interviewing for a Hyogo-based design company. Osamu had been bouncing off the walls trying to make his place presentable, much to Atsumu’s loud and unnecessary amusement.
Although both Osamu and Yachi’s channels were drama-free, tea-channels found a way to slip in relationship rumors about them. While Osamu secretly felt hopeful from the egging-on, Yachi had been unnerved by it, which led them to where they were now.
Osamu sat back in his seat on the leather sofa of the Chatty Cat-tys’ podcast recording studio. The podcast hosts, Oikawa Tooru and Kuroo Tetsurou, were convening in the podcast room chatting excitedly to each other. Many tea-channels reached out to Osamu and Yachi for the “scoop”, but all had been rejected until Yachi finally spoke up to Osamu about her discomfort. And on Hinata Shoyou’s recommendation, the Chatty Cat-tys’ podcast was the best, most trustworthy place to clear the air. That didn’t mean Osamu liked the glint in their eyes, though.
Scrolling idly through his phone, tapping his fingers on his thigh, Osamu’s eyes kept darting to the time. Yachi was running a little late, and he was sure that was because she’d couldn’t sleep from anxiousness.
His phone pinged.

“Talking to Yacchan, Samu-chan?”
Osamu jerked his head up to see Oikawa smirking down at him.
“She'll be here soon,” Osamu said slowly. “And don't call me that.”
Oikawa hummed, expression unchanging. He put a hand on his hip. “Good to know, Samu-chan. Is that all she said?”
Osamu narrowed his eyes. “What's that supposed to mean?”
Oikawa shrugged. “I was just wondering. It's a little…odd to smile at your phone like that for that to be all she said.”
Oh God, have I really been smiling at my phone?! Osamu could feel Kuroo’s eyes on him from across the room. He was starting to doubt Shoyou’s judgment. They already negotiated what types of questions were okay to ask, but Osamu really doubted them. “Hate ta disappoint, but that's it.”
Oikawa leaned back, pouting. “Fine, fine. We'll get it all out of you later anyway.”
Osamu blew air out of his nose.

Video Podcast: Chatty Cat-ty’s Ep.281 The Tastiest Drama - OsaYachi Tell All, 23.08.16
[Video Podcast Transcript]
(The video opens with Oikawa Tooru, Kuroo Tetsurou, Miya Osamu, and Yachi Hitoka sitting in front of a circle of podcast microphones.)
(The Chatty Cat-thy’s intro plays.)
(Oikawa winks at camera 1.)
OIKAWA: Yaho, my lovelies~!
KUROO: Welcome, kittens. Gather round, because we’re live with a juicy episode today. We have two guests here at the center of the latest, hottest Youtube ship-OsaYachi. The Chatty Cat-ty’s exclusive interview with: Miya Osamu and Yachi Hitoka!
(Yachi leans into the microphone, playing with her fingers in her lap.)
YACHI: H-Hello.
(Miya gives a nod to camera 2.)
MIYA: How’s it goin?
(Oikawa wiggles in his seat excitement.)
OIKAWA: Waah! We’re so honored to have you here! I’ve heard you two have been dodging interview requests left and right!
(Kuroo grins. Camera 1 shows a close up of him wiggling his eyebrows.)
KUROO: So tell us, what makes the Chatty Cat-tys so special?
(Miya’s brow furrows.)
MIYA: Is that relevant? We’re here now.
OIKAWA: Ooooh! There’s that sass Samu-chan is known for.
(Miya makes a face at camera 3.)
(Kuroo’s grin spreads.)
KUROO: Alright, alright. I’ll relent. Speaking of sass, though, a lot of your fans have taken note that you’re a lot sweeter and nicer in your videos with Yacchan, Miya-kun.
OIKAWA: So, Samu-chan, Yacchan. You two are here because of the crazy rumors and speculation that you two are in a relationship. As of now, you two haven’t declared it officially, though. Why is that?
(Yachi makes a strangled noise. Miya leans into his microphone.)
MIYA: Listen, we came here today to make it clear that we are friends. We are not in a romantic relationship. Quite frankly, it’s incredibly disrespectful of the people pushing it so hard. It’s making us uncomfortable. Stop.
(Miya glares at camera 3.)
(Oikawa puts a hand over his mouth.)
OIKAWA: Oh, my. But, are you sur—
KUROO: Oikawa.
(Oikawa huffs and pouts at Kuroo.)
OIKAWA: Okay, okay. So you’re hearing it now, internet! They are not together. You can put down your fanfiction pens.
(Yachi buries her face in her hands. Her ears are red.)
KUROO: Moving on, now that you’ve made that statement, would you two be willing to refute some of the common arguments made about certain clips in your videos?
MIYA: We reserve the right to say ‘no comment’.
(Kuroo nods.)
KUROO: Of course, of course.
MIYA: I’m serious. We will walk out of the studio if you’re out of line.
(Kuroo holds up his hands.)
KUROO: You tell us to stop, we will. We cats have honor.
(Miya crosses his arms and leans back in his seat. He extends the microphone to keep it in front of him.)
OIKAWA: Yacchan~ You haven’t said much so far. Are there any comments you’d like to make before we dive into it?
(Yachi leans into the microphone nervously.)
YACHI: I agree with everything Osamu-san said. I, um, I don’t have anything more to say.
(Oikawa nods.)
OIKAWA: Alright, alright.
KUROO: So, Yacchan. You actually started off a good segue. A lot of your fans have talked about how quickly the two of you have switched to more and more familiar honorifics in a relatively short period of time. The reception has been pretty largely around Miya-kun here—
(Oikawa laughs.)
KUROO:—since we’re familiar with your content. For our listeners who don’t know Miya-kun well, his channel can get quite, hm, how do I say it?
OIKAWA: Vulgar.
MIYA: That’s an exaggeration.
OIKAWA: You curse in front of the camera. It’s a wonder you get ad revenue.
MIYA: I have sponsors. And anyway, making rude comments was how I started when I was just making videos for my brother, who deserves it. It’s kind of hard to switch gears when you blow up basically overnight because people like that style.
OIKAWA: Oh?
(Oikawa leans on his elbow on the table.)
OIKAWA: So are you saying it’s all an act? Is the nice way you interact with Yacchan the real Miya Osamu?
(Miya narrows his eyes.)
MIYA: What are you implying?
KUROO: The viewers are obsessed with the contrast. ‘Did youtube sweetheart Yachi Hitoka tame youtube’s degenerate chef Miya Osamu’?—
(Yachi chokes on air. Osamu rubs her back. Camera 3 zooms in on the interaction.)
KUROO: —that kind of thing.
MIYA: Do people think I’m some sort of asshole to my friends?
KUROO: Thing is, you’ve collaborated with other youtubers before, and you still have that sort of, ah…
OIKAWA: —snarky—
KUROO: —yeah, snarky air about you. That’s completely absent in all your videos with Yacchan.
(Miya lets out a small growl. He is visibly upset.)
MIYA: There’s a difference between a professional friendship an’ a regular friendship. I know Hitoka outside of youtube n’ see her on a regular basis. We’re friends who happen ta make collabs. It ain’t that complicated.
OIKAWA: Really now? Many people have noted that you only appear on each other’s socials after Hinata Shoyou mentioned you in a video with Yacchan—
MIYA: —Some people like some semblance of privacy, Oikawa. I don’t talk ‘bout my non-youtuber friends either cause that’s nobody’s business.
(Miya’s hand clenches around the microphone stand.)
KUROO: But Yacchan is a youtuber—
MIYA: So? Do we have ta reveal all the youtubers we’ve ever been friends with behind the scenes? Uh, what? I’m sooo sorry!
(Yachi puts a hand on Miya’s arm.)
YACHI: Before my video with Shoyou, I didn’t do anything with other youtubers. I had my official face-reveal a week or so before I was in Shoyou’s vlogs. I don’t talk about myself too much in my videos because I focus on the art.
My channel is meant to be educational. And…all the collabs I posted on my channel involved Osamu-san, sure, but they were still instructional! Osamu-san’s videos were more…um, lax and playful because that’s the vibe of his channel.
OIKAWA: Oh, wow, Yacchan. I’m not sure I’ve heard you talk that much in one go.
(Oikawa laughs.)
KUROO: Hello? Trashykawa? Were you even listening to a goddamn word she said?
(Kuroo laughs.)
(Oikawa waves Kuroo off.)
OIKAWA: Yes, yes. But, Yacchan, in the video you posted of drawing Miya-kun’s face, there was a lot of flirting going on. What was all that about, then?
YACHI: W-We were just joking around! We weren’t flirting. And—And a lot of that wasn’t supposed to be in the video in the first place. My editor thought it would be funny because of the extra attention Osamu-san was bringing to my channel. It wasn’t meant to start something this big. I didn’t even see the official video until after he posted it.
(Kuroo raises his eyebrows.)
KUROO: Really now? Okay, but what about this? Here’s a soundbite from Miya-kun’s video ‘Cookie Contest’ where you two battle it out with cookie icing.
(Yachi squirms in her seat.)
(On the screen, the clip of the video plays. Kuroo starts the sound bite for listeners.)
Video Transcript: Cookie Contest - Who Will Win? 04.06.16
{Video Transcript, Starting Time: 10:13}
Yachi Hitoka and Miya Osamu are standing in front of an island counter in a brightly lit kitchen. Scattered on the counter is a mess of bowls and icing. Three dozen decorated cookies sit on cooling racks. Half in front of Yachi and half in front of Miya.
Yachi picks up one of Miya’s cookies.
Yachi: Oh my gosh, Miya-kun! That looks nothing like a bunny!
Yachi holds the cookie up to the camera and giggles.
Miya’s mouth falls open in mock outrage.
Miya: Wha? That looks exactly like a bunny!
Yachi: It has round bear ears!
Miya: My specialty is sculpting, okay? I’m outta my element. And it’s cute anyway. Cuter than your pusheen.
Miya points at one of the cookies on Yachi’s cooling rack, then flicks icing at Yachi when she’s distracted.
Yachi: Ack—no throwing food!
Miya laughs. He reaches out to Yachi’s face.
Yachi: Hey, what are you doing?
Miya sticks out his tongue as he traces the icing on Yachi’s face.
Miya: Gimme a sec. I’m almost done—
Yachi playfully swats at Miya’s hand.
Miya: Hey! No slapping. Violence!
Yachi: Hahahahahaha. That tickles!
Yachi’s face turns red.
Miya: Okay. Got it. Here, your makeup, princess.
Miya pulls off a food glove and shows Yachi her face on his phone camera.
Yachi gasps.
Yachi: Miya-kun!
Yachi leans in to inspect the icing. Then she laughs so hard her eyes crease and the icing shifts when her cheeks stretch.
Yachi: What is that? A cow?
Miya: What?! It’s obviously a fox! It looks nothing like a cow!
Yachi: Mhmm. Maybe I should give you a few drawing lessons, Miya-kun.
Yachi giggles.
…
{/End Video Transcript}
(Oikawa rests his cheek on his fist. He grins.)
OIKAWA: Sooooo. Got an explanation for that? I mean, that goes on for another, what? Like, five minutes—
YACHI: I-It did not—
KUROO: That is, without question, flirting. There is no argument there.
(Yachi shrinks in her seat.)
(Oikawa grins at Yachi.)
OIKAWA: Was that your editor’s suggestion, too, Yacchan?
YACHI: Um. Um—
MIYA: It was mine. And I wasn’t flirting. Yachi was feeling stiff that day, and I was trying to loosen her up.
KUROO: Sure, sure.
MIYA: I’m telling ya, that’s all it was.
(Oikawa looks into camera 2 with a gleam in his eyes.)
OIKAWA: Riiiight. Okay. Confirmed. You hear that, kitties? Not flirting.
KUROO: No flirting.
(Kuroo turns and gives a big shrug to camera 1.)
OIKAWA: Anyway, why don’t we move-on to Yacchan’s Insta post back in July…

Osamu stepped out of the building and onto the sidewalk with a groan. “That was…ugh.” They’d agreed to an hour-long recording, but that was the longest hour of his life.
Beside Osamu, Yachi gave him a small smile. “I guess it could have been worse?”
“Meh.” Osamu wrapped a hand around her shoulders in a short side-hug. “Ya did good in there, Hitoka.”
Yachi hummed. “It was thanks to you that I didn’t pass out. I was so frozen in my seat.”
Osamu laughed. “Give yerself more credit. I was strugglin’ with that Tokyo accent, jeez.”
Yachi cocked her head. “You don’t need to change your accent, Samu-kun. It’s part of your charm.” She touched his side lightly.
Osamu blushed. “Uh, thanks.”
They stood in silence for a few moments, watching traffic and pedestrians go by.
Yachi folded het fingers out and stretched on her tiptoes. “Is it too early for food?”
Osamu glanced at his phone. 16:28. “Actually, It’s the perfect time ta whip up somethin’ fer ya.”
Yachi beamed.
—
“Alright. I’ve been tweakin’ the recipe a bit ta give it a more unique signature.” Osamu pulled out a bowl and constructed his donburi. “I wanted ta do somethin’ a lil different from the usual typa sauce for eel.”
Yachi got on her tiptoes and leaned over his shoulders. She clapped her hands in anticipation. “Oh! I know whatever you do will be amazing, Samu-kun—”
Osamu glanced over his shoulder. His lips grazed the tip of Yachi’s nose, and they both took a sharp breath.
Nearly tripping, Yachi jerked back and averted her gaze. “I’m so sorry!”
“It’s fine.” Osamu was still reeling from the ghost of a sensation on his lips. They both stayed in awkward silence as Osamu finished cooking and plated their bowls.
“—I used a little coconut aminos for a little sweetness since I know ya like that. I think it goes well with the eel.”
Osamu picked up a bite of the dish and held it out to Yachi.
She ate the bite off the end of his chopsticks.
Osamu froze, but Yachi didn’t seem to realize what she did. And, really, it wasn’t something to freak out over. Osamu had used his chopsticks to ram countless foods into Atsumu’s mouth to shut him up. It wasn’t weird. Watching Yachi eat his food was admittedly a little weird though.
Yachi closed her eyes as she chewed. “Mmm. This is delicious, Samu-kun.” She licked her lips. Osamu closely watched her tongue as it removed a smudge of sauce.
It was exactly as he’d hoped, and better. The gentle light of the setting sun streamed through Yachi’s window. Her skin glowed as it kissed her face. There was a stray eyelash on his cheek and Osamu had to resist the urge to wipe it off with his thumb.
“Sa-Samu-kun?”
He blinked out of his daze. Yachi gaped at him. Her cheeks were turning red.
“Oh, yeah. Thanks, Hitoka. I’m glad ya like it,” Osamu said in a rush. He started eating his food just to stop himself from saying anything weird. Get your shit together, idiot. He had to purposefully slow down his chewing because he could barely taste any of it. So focused on his task, it took Yachi a couple times to get his attention.
“Huh?” Osamu looked up abruptly.
Across from him, Yachi was staring down at her plate, biting her lip. The tips of her chopsticks traced the rim of her bowl. “Um…” Yachi looked off to the side.
“Is something wrong? Do you not like the flavor?”
“No, no! It’s nothing like that, it’s just…” Yachi peeked up at him shyly. “I’m just…I’m really sorry about all this, Samu-kun.”
“All what?”
“All—” Yachi gestured awkwardly between them. “The entire internet drama. I’m so sorry.”
“Why?” Osamu said. His heart sank. It warmed his heart that she cared so deeply about his feelings—even if she couldn’t return them. “You shouldn’t be.”
“No!” Yachi said. She bowed her head sharply, nearly knocking her forehead on her bowl. “I’m sorry. I should’ve made a statement earlier! Our fans have been pushing for months! And I’ve been selfish.”
“Wait, what?” Osamu’s anticipation stirred.
Yachi shrunk in on herself, squeezing her eyes shut. “A part of me…a part of me has been enjoying the attention—”
Osamu breathed in sharply.
“—because all the comments have felt like encouragement. I know you see me as a friend, Samu-kun, and I’m a horrible person for putting you through that and—”
“Wait, wait, wait.” Osamu held out a hand. Hope was building in his chest. “I’m missing something here.”
Yachi peeked open one eye. Then the other. Then she slowly lowered her shoulders.
“Samu-kun.” Yachi took a deep breath. She clasped her hands together. “Over the time we’ve known each other, I’ve developed feelings for you…romantically. And—” She started playing with her fingers. “I’m sorry I didn’t stop our fans. A part of me wanted to live in the delusion that you return my feelings.”
Osamu hadn’t realized how tense his body was until it completely relaxed at Yachi’s words. A grin started to spread across his face. “I guess our fans were right all along then.”
Osamu stood and circled around to sit next to Yachi, and her eyes widened. She finally met his gaze.
“Do you mean…?”
Osamu stilled Yachi’s hands with his own. “Yeah.” Osamu laughed. “Yeah. I’m an idiot.”
He rested his forehead on Yachi’s. “I like ya so much, Hitoka. You don’t even know.”
A radiant smile adorned Yachi’s face. “Really?”
Osamu’s eyes softened. He ran a hand through Yachi’s hair and tucked a strand behind her ear. “Really.”

A picture of an Instagram post on drawmeyachi’’s account page. Miya Osamu and Yachi Hitoka are standing together in a brightly lit kitchen. Yachi is holding up a plate of well decorated cookies to the camera. Yachi is blushing with a big smile on her face. Osamu is hugging her from behind. He is resting his chin on Yachi’s shoulder and sticking his tongue out at the camera.

His gaze kept wandering to the corner of the restaurant. One of his regulars, a pretty blond with a striking smile, sat in her usual spot. Usually Osamu had no problem speaking to women he held an interest in, but she was different somehow. Her eyes caught his and he froze.
Romance, Angst With A Happy Ending, Drama, Fluff, Pining
Summary: Osamu's got a crush on Hitoka. But Hitoka's got a crush on Atsumu, and so Osamu does what any good brother would do: he tries to hook them up. But fuck, is it hard to watch.
And here’s my story for the Osamu Big Bang! Please go give my partner’s art all the love it deserves! <3 And enjoy the pining (literally Osamu pines so hard, bless his heart)!
Ding-ding! The little bell attached to the door chimed sweetly as it opened. Osamu’s eyes flickered up to the clock, and then a smirk pulled onto his lips. He didn’t have to turn around to know who had just stepped into the door. After all, only one person came into his shop at 4:15 p.m. on the dot every day.
“Two seasoned kombu seaweed onigiri with a side of eel sauce, coming right up,” he called. He then looked over his shoulder, the smirk dancing wider across his face. “Unless you’re thinking of shaking it up a bit this time, Yacchan?”
The petite blonde girl flashed him a sunny smile from the doorway. It was the brightest light in the room, what with the gloom of the rainstorm clouding the restaurant. Rain dripped from the cloth of her duck-patterned umbrella as she folded it, puddling around her sunny yellow rainboots. They matched the yellow belt around her middle, which gleamed against the pristine white of her sundress. She plopped the umbrella into the basket beside the door before shyly brushing a strand of her hair behind her ears.
“Hmm… You know what?” she said, putting a hand on a cocked hip while she pressed the pad of her index finger to her lips. “I think I will! Let’s shake it up wiiiiiiiiith… extra eel sauce!”
“Whatever you want, Yacchan,” Osamu chuckled with a shake of his head.
Giggling, Hitoka flounced up to the counter and took her regular seat. It was her special stool, a little shorter than the rest so she didn’t have any trouble getting into it. He always made sure to adjust it a little before she got there if someone had sat in it. He just… felt like he needed to. For some reason, he just wanted to make Onigiri Miya Hitoka’s home away from home.
Hitoka had come to Hyogo Prefecture to conduct a one-year special project for her Graphic Design major. Of course, she’d met up with Shouyou as soon as she was in town, and the first thing he’d done was rant and rave about Osamu’s restaurant. The rest of the MSBY team had done pretty much the same, especially Atsumu, who’d literally threatened to kidnap her and take her there himself.
She’d been a shy little thing when she’d first wandered in, not sure how the twin of the rambunctious Atsumu would be. Osamu had entertained her in small talk, admittedly curious about what the cute little manager from Karasuno would be like. It wasn’t an uncommon occurrence for Shouyou to get a little too much sake in his system and rant about his glory days and gush about his best friend. And Osamu had to admit, she was cute, just like Shouyou had said.
Oh, yes. Osamu Miya had a crush, and she was sitting right there at the bar looking oh-so-pretty. Oh-so-pretty while she waited on him to give her food, which was pretty much Osamu’s love language.
Yeah, he was down bad, all right. And yet he’d been stewing on it like soy sauce fermenting out in the fields. Because every time he turned around to hand her the plate, she would smile so sweetly at him, and he would just melt like sugar in water. He’d melt for her, and she would be none the wiser, just nibbling on her rice balls and scrunching her eyes up in that cute little way she did. He leaned back against the counter with his arms crossed, a little smile slowly spreading across his face while he watched her enjoy his food. Ugh, and she looked so cute doing it.
Maybe it was time. They’d known each other for a while now, after all. She liked him, right? Yeah. Yeah, he should go for i—
They both jumped when Hitoka’s phone started to blare a loud pop tune and vibrate, shaking across the counter.
“Oh! Oops, lemme get that,” Hitoka giggled and picked up the phone. “Helloooo?” she trilled when she put it to her ear, and Osamu hid a smile behind his hand. How was she just so gosh darn cute doing the simplest things? “Oh, hey, Shouyou! What’s up?”
It was clear that she was going to be on the phone for a while, so Osamu turned around to clean up his workstation. He half-listened to the conversation, mostly because he just liked the sound of her voice rather than the fact he actually wanted to pay attention. However, he happened to catch a snatch of the conversation that made him freeze in place and direct all his attention to her talking.
“—mu we’re talking about here!” Her voice was hushed and her body turned away from Osamu a bit. When she nervously glanced over her shoulder at him, he hastily redirected his gaze to make it seem like he was still wiping the salt off the counter. Hitoka wiggled on her chair, then continued to speak in a low voice into the receiver, “I can’t ask him out! Come on, Shouyou, I know you know him really well, but I just don’t know… I’m nervous, you know? I mean, he’s just so amazing and funny and charming! And I’m just…” She sank down a little in the chair with a sigh falling from her lips. “Me.”
Osamu was too busy clenching onto the granite countertop to even think about sweeping in to make Hitoka feel better. It was like the ceiling had just caved in, crashing down with the weight of the world onto his shoulders. He was glad he didn’t say anything. Because it was obvious, wasn’t it? Amazing and funny and charming…
Hitoka could only be talking about his brother.
He should have seen it coming, he thought with a wry smile. Of course she would fall for Atsumu. It was Atsumu. Osamu wasn’t ignorant of the ways that his twin was superior to him, at least in the eyes of women. Professional volleyball player, devilishly handsome, roguish charm? He was the full package and the complete opposite of Osamu’s humble allure and domestic personality. Osamu was quite used to his twin getting most of the attention from the opposite sex. Ironically enough, though, this was the first time that Atsumu had ever gotten in the way of one of Osamu’s crushes.
It was bound to happen sooner or later, he thought ruefully. He looked over his shoulder once more to find Hitoka blushing and smiling while she continued to debate voicing her feelings with Shouyou. Despite it all, he couldn’t find it within himself to be bitter. She looked really happy just talking about it; he couldn’t imagine how blissful she would be when something actually happened. Osamu wanted Hitoka to be happy…
So, he would have to set her up with Atsumu. Everyone wins. Ha.
The bass thrummed deep in Osamu’s bones. It shook the air, making the whiskey in his glass ripple against the ice cubes. Sweat was as thick as the music in the air; it clung to Osamu’s skin, making it shine under the dim fluorescent lights. It had been a long time since he’d been to a bar, he mused as he brought the glass to his lips to sip at the bitter amber liquid within. Never thought he’d be coming to one with the attention of hooking his crush up with his twin, but life was strange like that.
“Are you sure about this, ‘Samu?” Atsumu had questioned him when he’d called him up that night, after Hitoka had finally left. Atsumu was well aware of Osamu’s feelings.“I mean, you know that no girl is more important than you, right? Bros before hoes.”
“Please don’t refer to Yacchan as a ‘hoe.’”
“Ya know what I meant, man! Theoretical hoes.”
“Pfft… Anyway, I’m sure. If Yacchan likes you, who am I to stand in the way of that?”
Osamu had said that, and he had meant it at the time. But he couldn’t help but feel just a little bit bitter while he sat alone at the bar watching her giggle while Atsumu whispered something in her ear. They were near the dance floor, close together to avoid being squished by the throng of bar goers—so close that Hitoka’s arm brushed against Atsumu’s every time she brought her fruity pink cocktail to her lips to take a dainty sip.
It was going well. Osamu tried to make himself feel happy about that. Hitoka was smiling. Maybe it was his imagination or the shitty lighting or even some sort of twisted wishful thinking, but her smile didn’t seem as bright as when she would smile at him. But it was going well, he told himself again, then downed the entire glass of whiskey. Grimacing at the burning in his throat, he wordlessly motioned for the bartender to pour him another.
Maybe if he drank enough, there wouldn’t be room for the jealousy trying to take root in the pit of his stomach.
“Osamu!” Hitoka flounced up to him just as the bartender slid him his glass of whiskey. She plopped down on the barstool beside him and let out a happy little sigh. Her face was flushed, and she had to take a moment to pull a sweaty strand of hair out of her face before grinning at him. “This is so fun! It’s been so long since I’ve been out like this. Thank you for offering to D.D. for us.”
Oh, right. Guess that meant he had to put the brakes on the whiskey, he thought and set the glass down without even drinking from it. He smiled tersely at Hitoka, while she leaned back against the bar and watched the shifting, grinding bodies on the dance floor with a sleepy sort of contentment.
“What happened to ‘Tsumu?” he asked.
“Oh!” she said and turned back to look at him. “Well, you seemed a little lonely over here, so I came to join you.”
Huh. That was odd. If Hitoka was crushing on Atsumu, he would figure that she would be glued to his side the entire night. He didn’t pin Hitoka as someone to play hard-to-get, but Osamu wasn’t exactly the world’s leading expert on women.
He shifted in his chair, sorely missing the whiskey, and responded, “I’m all right. The nightlife is more ‘Tsumu’s scene. I’m just fine right here at the bar.”
“Aw, ‘Samu!” she cooed and lightly slapped him on the shoulder. Such a light and fleeting touch, but it sent electricity shooting through Osamu’s nerves, lighting him up like a livewire. “Just because you can’t drink a lot doesn’t mean you can’t have any fun!” She hopped up from the barstool and turned around to offer both her hands to him. “Come on, come dance with me!”
Osamu looked nervously out to the crowd. Seriously, where was his brother? Atsumu usually stuck out like a sore thumb with that shock of orange hair, but somehow, he had managed to blend in amongst the throng of people. It was Atsumu she should be dancing with, not him. Oh, but the temptation was there, like a sore gaping wound inside of him. It wasn’t wrong, necessarily. Friends danced together. He just had to keep his wits about him and make sure he didn’t say anything.
And so, against his better judgment, he found himself easing his hands into Hitoka’s. Her hands were smaller than his, and her fingers didn’t even touch when she wrapped them tight around his palms. Smiling cheekily, she walked backward into the chaos. The gentle tug on his arms prompted Osamu to slip down from the barstool. He followed her with languid, uncertain steps, but despite the alarm bells ringing shrilly in his head, he couldn’t find himself to heed them. He just pretended he couldn’t hear them, that they were drowned out by the thump-thump of the bass vibrating in his bones.
She brought him into the heart of the dance floor. They had to keep close to one another, nearly chest-to-chest, to keep from getting lost in the movement around them. Hitoka’s eyes gleamed in the dim yellow light of the fluorescents, and she was looking up at him oh-so-prettily. Or maybe that was his wishful thinking again. Not that it mattered to him right now; he was captivated by her, only able to gaze down at her in pure and utter reverence.
“That’s not dancing,” Hitoka playfully chastised him after half a minute of him literally just standing there gawking at her. It snapped him out of his stupor, and he blushed fiercely when he realized that he’d been ogling her like an idiot. He hoped that the shitty lights of the bar hid the bright red hue spreading across his cheeks, at least just a little. He then dropped his head with a bashful laugh.
“I, uh, don’t really dance.”
“Then why’d you let me drag you out here?” she shot back, slapping him lightly against his right pectoral. The corners of his mouth twitched up into a smirky smile as her palm slapped thickly against the muscle, and he lifted his gaze to peer at her through his bangs.
“Because you asked.”
She responded to his answer with a puzzled flutter of her lashes and a soft gasp. Her surprised expression then melted into one of soft affection. Osamu had always thought all those romance movies and novels had been overdramatic when the protagonist said they could literally die for someone’s smile. But as he stood there in the thick of the club with Hitoka, watching the dim lights illuminate the coy lilt of her pink glossed lips—Osamu believed it. He one-hundred-percent would crawl on his hands and knees through the deepest, darkest, hottest depths of Hell if it meant he would be rewarded with just a momentary flicker of that smile on her face.
“It’s not hard,” Hitoka chuckled, prompting him to lift his head back up. She stepped a little closer to him, her eyes skimming over the rugged features of his body before reaching up to rest her hands square in the middle of his shoulders. “Just copy what everyone else is doing.”
Osamu barely registered her words because his brain was short-circuiting like a toaster in a bathtub, fried by the electricity that pulsed in his nerves from her touch. When his brain did catch up with his ears, however, he swallowed thickly and straightened up to peer around at the crowd. ‘What everything else was doing’ almost gave him a heart attack, and it took everything he had to keep the icy flush of panic that shot through his arteries from collapsing him. Even the tamest dancing going on was downright debaucherous in Osamu’s eyes; bodies flush together, faces so close that breaths mixed in the small space between kiss-swollen lips, grinding hips and stolen kisses. Osamu was certain that he looked like a deer caught in headlights when he glanced back down at Hitoka, but all she did was flutter those pretty blonde lashes and smile sweetly.
He gulped before inching his hands toward her hips. When his fingertips made the first brush against her skirt, he admittedly flinched back; it almost felt like he’d been burned, the thought of touching her in a way striking him as utterly sinful. But he forced himself to proceed, slowly reaching forward until his hands rested snugly against the curve of her body. Osamu was no fumbling virgin, but he had to swallow a guttural groan at how naturally she seemed to fit against his palms, how soft and plush her skin seemed beneath the jean material of her miniskirt.
He felt light-headed just from touching her like this. There was no way he could start dancing. He would quite literally die, right there in the middle of the bar.
But Osamu was already addicted, and it took mere moments for his body to crave more, more, more. He could give two shits about Atsumu; all he could think about now was chasing the euphoria beginning to buzz in the base of his skull. It was easy to follow the beat of the music, for it was pounding even louder in his head now; while gazing down into her face with a heady, almost drunk stare, he began to rock her hips back and forth with his hands.
“There ya go,” Hitoka praised with a soft hum that was barely audible over the insistent pounding of the bass. Osamu had just enough wherewithal to smile; it took almost all his thought process to do so, however, because he was admittedly overwhelmed. It was just so much—the feeling of her under his fingertips, the small brushes of her body against his with each sway of her hips, the heat of her breath puffing against his face with each movement.
“Not so hard, is it?” she murmured while sliding her hands around his back to loosely loop her arms around his neck. The motion made her shuffle a few centimeters closer, and that’s all that was necessary to have her plastered against him from chest to pelvis.
The singing of his nerves reignited the alarm bells in his head, which were trying desperately to reach Osamu’s common sense through the thick fog of desire clouding his head.
I shouldn’t be doing this, he thought dimly. He couldn’t think straight anymore, so much so that reality was beginning to distort. After all, there was no way that Hitoka was looking at him like that for real—eyes lidded, pupils slightly dilated, cheeks flushed and lips poked out in just the way to make them oh-so-kissable. And he could if he wanted to, too—with her mouth mere inches away, all it would take is a small tilt forward to claim what he wanted so, so, so badly.
But she wasn’t his to claim, now was she?
The illusion broke, like a mirror shattering into a million pieces. Osamu forced himself away from Hitoka with a sound halfway between a sob and a gasp. He could hear her crying out his name as he whirled on his heel, but all he could think about was getting out of the bar, about putting as much distance between himself and her before he did something awful. It was all a blur of color and sound, and then he was outside, where the quiet of the night exploded around him.
He stepped off the curb into the parking lot, and then he was doubled over, sucking in deep breaths of air while he leaned against his knees. The haze in his mind evaporated away with each drip of sweat from his face, leaving him in guilt-ridden clarity. Still crouched over, he ran a shaky hand over his face with a long, deep groan. What on Earth had he been thinking? He should have never gone out onto that dance floor with Hitoka. He knew it would lead nowhere good, but he had done it anyway. He had brought Atsumu here to get with Hitoka, and he’d taken the first available opportunity to try and seduce her himself! Fuck, he was a shitbag. He was the shittiest of shitbags. He was the most putrid, disgusting, stuffed-to-the-brim, tearing-at-the-seams bag of absolute dog shit on the face of the planet—
“Osamu!”
He shot up and started walking toward his car on reflex. He didn’t turn around, not even at the sound of Hitoka’s heels frantically clack-clack-clacking against the asphalt. He just needed to get in his car and leave; he could come back later and pick them up, but he couldn’t spend one more second here, he had to get in his car and peel out and get far the fuck away before he could even saw one fleeting glimpse of—
She caught up to him despite his longer stride. Next thing Osamu knew, Hitoka was wrenching him around by his elbow, crowding his space despite his desperate attempts to backpedal, and then he was pressed up against the side of his car. Wherever Hitoka went, the light always sought her out, it seemed; she was illuminated out here, too, the light from the lamp posts falling on her face to highlight her bright red cheeks and angry pout and teary eyes.
“What is the matter with you?” she fumed. “You can’t—you can’t just—”
“I know you like Atsumu,” he blurted before he could stop himself. She stopped talking to just gape at him in utter shock, mouth hanging open and eyebrows arched down in sharp peaks of confusion. And maybe if he’d been thinking straight, he would have recognized the very obvious fact that she had no fucking idea what he was talking about. But he wasn’t; he was babbling, spilling his guts out to try and explain himself in a way that would make her stop being angry with him. Because that’s not what he wanted, not at all, not at all, not at all.
“I brought you guys here so you could…you know, get together. It wasn’t supposed to go like this. I was just supposed to hang back and let it happen, I wasn’t supposed to get in the way, but—”
“Osamu!” she snapped, her voice cracking like a whip in the cool night air. The words lodged in his throat, making whatever he was going to say next come out as a raspy choking sound instead. Hitoka inhaled sharply through her nose, then pinched the bridge of it and huffed with tightly shut eyes, “I do not like Atsumu.”
“You don’t?” he blinked incredulously. “But—but I heard you on the phone the other day with Shouyou—”
“If you’re going to eavesdrop on someone’s conversation, then at least do it right!” she sighed in irritation. “I was talking about you. I like you.”
She paused to let the revelation sink in. It did, slowly, like a floundering ship slowly being sucked under by the sea. Osamu opened his mouth, then shut it, then opened it again to ask, “What?”
“Atsumu told me everything while we were talking earlier,” she smirked, opening her eyes to look at him with a mixture of amusement and sympathy. “I didn’t want to go along with it, but I was also kind of curious what you would do… He left. Like, he’s been gone. Shouyou picked him up half an hour ago.”
Oh. Well, that would explain why he couldn’t find his totally conspicuous twin.
“So you were… trying to get me to make a move?” Osamu realized it slowly. He thought he would feel some sort of way about it, but he felt oddly… numb. He supposed that it was just such an inconceivable thing to him that his mind didn’t quite believe it.
“Yes,” she laughed, reaching forward to grab him by the shoulders and squeeze. “I’m sorry, Osamu… I’ve been so nervous to confess to you, and Atsumu hyped me up so good that I was totally caught up in the moment! I totally forgot you were here for Atsumu. You’d never go after a girl you knew he was interested in,” she said, then smiled sweetly and moved one of her hands to his cheek.
Soft, his addled brain couldn’t help but think. “You’re just… so good.”
A bashful smile began to spread across Osamu’s lips. He’d been totally thinking all kinds of scandalous things in that bar, but now, he was the picture of a shy crushing schoolboy. He fidgeted with the hem of his shirt and looked down to try and hide his elated little grin, but it was just too big. He knew she could still see it when he shyly mumbled, “Yeah?”
“Yeah,” Hitoka chuckled. She then leaned forward to press her forehead to his, all but forcing him to meet her gaze. And it was so soft, so adoring, that it made his heart flutter like a full flock of birds taking off in his chest. “I don’t just come around for the food, you know,” she added with a laugh. “Even though it’s the best.”
“It is the best,” he boasted, his chest swelling a little with pride. Hitoka snorted, but his gloating only made her smile grow. Feeling a little of his mojo return, Osamu couldn’t resist sneaking his hands back to her hips. They just stood there for a few minutes, basking in a comfortable, doting silence.
“So,” she said after a minute or so. She hesitated, biting down shyly on her bottom lip, before continuing, “How about we ditch this place? Go on a real date?”
“I’d like that,” he purred. But he didn’t move an inch. Because Osamu wasn’t leaving this parking lot without finishing what had started, not even if it became a warzone.
He lifted one hand to gently run his fingertips over her cheek. She turned into his touch, nosing against his index finger while her eyes held his glittering gaze. He caressed her softly for a moment, trailing his fingers over her cheek and down her jaw before finally grasping her chin. She didn’t resist as he turned her back to face him, holding her steady while he tilted his head and leaned in. In fact, she closed the rest of the distance, seeking out his lips with as much desperation as he did hers.
If his hands were made to hold her hips, then his mouth was made to be against hers. Their lips slotted perfectly together, and the feeling of them so soft against his made a purr rumble deep in his chest. That strong desire began to bubble up inside him again, making him repeatedly move his mouth over hers in an effort to kiss her better, harder, deeper. His hand snuck around to the back of her head to hold it steady as he all but devoured her, and Hitoka let him, yielding to his ravenous hunger. What started out soft became a passionate, teeth-clashing, tongue-tangling, breath-stealing kiss that had the world spinning around him.
But the world could spin all it wanted. He had his rock, his gravity, the center of his universe right there. And when he pulled away to cradle her face, breathless and red-faced and utterly drowning in bliss, he knew that Hitoka felt the exact same way. And that wasn’t wishful thinking.

Excerpt:
Hitoka frowns at her phone. Shouyo hadn’t exactly been overexcited for this date, but the guy had seemed interested and not obviously a creep, so she and Tadashi had encouraged him to go for it. It's not like boyfriends just pop up out of nowhere, after all, and she wanted to be supportive and if Shouyo wanted a boyfriend (which, he'd uncharacteristically told the two of them in a very meek manner, he did. He thought so, anyway).
Judging by the texts, it looks like he hasn't turned up. There could be loads of reasons for that! Traffic, a random emergency but... Apparently, Shouyo has heard nothing at all.
Hitoka sighs heavily. Osamu, only just entering the room, raises his eyebrow. He doesn't even have to ask.
"So I said about Shouyo– Hinata," she adds, at the glimpse of confusion she spies. Osamu nods, sitting himself down next to her, their arms brushing. "Well, he—and please don't tell anyone—he got a date with this one guy, and he's gone but the guy hasn't turned up!"
Osamu hums, leaning into her to look at the texts himself. Hitoka can’t help but blush, tilting the phone so it’s easier for him to see. They’ve only been living together for a few months, and it’s still surprising when he gets close to her; most of the time she hardly believes she’s got such a nice boyfriend. Shimizu tells her off when she tells her that she thinks that though, so she tries not to. How on earth she ever got lucky enough for this, she actually doesn’t know.
But this isn’t about her, right now, she has a friend in need! She’s about to suggest waiting just a little longer then coming over here for dinner instead, when Osamu plucks her phone out of her hands.
“Wait, Miya-kun–!” Hitoka starts, reaching for her phone once more. Osamu catches both her hands in one of his (they are huge, his hands, she could look at them for hours. She digresses).
“It’s Osamu, Hitoka-chan. And I think I can sort this, I just need Hinata to hold on for a while.”
“Sorry,” Hitoka adds. She’s trying, she really is. It’s just… difficult. It had taken three years with Shouyo. Two with Tadashi. She still hasn’t really mustered the courage to use Tsukishima’s or Kageyama’s first names yet, and she’s not sure she ever will. Osamu squeezes her hands in wordless forgiveness as he types awkwardly with the other. Hitoka takes a breath and squashes herself into his side to see what he’s typing, but he holds it away from her.
“You’ll see in a minute,” he remarks instead. Hitoka finally clocks the other part of his sentence.
“Wait, what do you mean, Miya– Osamu-kun,” she hastily corrects. He quirks a brief smile, so it’s definitely worth it. “How can you sort it? I was going to say he could come over here if the man doesn’t turn up, but that would be such a shame, Shouyo put so much effort into it, and he was really nervous about it! I hadn’t seen him as nervous about anything other than volleyball…”
“You have a moping friend, who happens to be male. I have a mopey gay brother. Between the two of us, this could solve two problems.”
After 60 years of coaching, Irihata retires from the world of figure skating; in his stead is newcomer Iwaizumi Hajime. Clashes ensue with prodigy Oikawa Tooru.
Meanwhile, his skating partner Yachi Hitoka tries to balance school, sports, and love.

Notes:
– this is my first smau so i’m super excited! i hope you enjoy it x
– thank you to everyone that’s supported me into making this <3
– timestamps will not matter to the story unless a character states the time(ex it’s 3am in the morning or why are you up so late, etc) because i'd like it to be less complicated then it could be.
– disclaimer: pictures will most likely not be mine, unfortunately I don’t know who they belong too but they are not mine. some of them are taken from unsplash, which I can use freely, others are from pinterest. i’m going to be putting together a list of sources of as many as i can find at the very end.
– second disclaimer: i have not figure skated in six or seven years, nor have i competitively figure skated. my entire knowledge will be built upon olympic youtube commentary and the shib sibs. but, this is an smau, and it makes it more likely that skating will only be something discussed in the passing and not a main focus of the story.
