On the second day of our trip we decided to go rockhounding. This place was suggested by someone on Facebook. Thank you to whomever it was, I’m sorry I don’t recall who. I was totally unprepared…didn’t bring my ‘stuff’ as I usually would have but we learned a lot about this diamond mine and might go back, someday.
Not too fancy but hey, you’re banging on rock with a sledgehammer, what do you expect?
This ‘Diamond’ which is really quartz crystal was valued at $9 by the store clerk. We had another one that was valued at $20. Imagine what we could have found if we knew what we were looking for, eh?
As some of you know, I LOVE waterfalls…which will soon become apparent in future blogs.
On our way back from the mine we stopped at O’Scugnizzo’s Pizzeria in Utica and sampled their cuisine. You should have seen the baker’s face when I asked for a Hawaiian Pizza. Apparently, this is a long-established pizzeria, old-fashioned, and very traditional.
It was a 3 hour (give or take) drive to the mine from Buffalo and I made the decision to go back all that way so that we could have a full day the following day. We had planned to stay by the mine at another KOA but instead went back to the same one in Buffalo to enjoy our beautiful fire, different cabin, larger, and really nice. Pancakes in the morning. It’s really nice to cook your own food in your own space.
Stay tuned for more blogs about this trip!
