Imagine Lucifer sympathizing with a burn victim
picture it, maybe like in 2x12 or 2x13, when he’d be in the hospital wandering the halls (between visiting Chloe, or after saving her and on his way out), and a few doors down, a patient’s door is ajar, and he hears groans and cries of pain, and glances into the room to witness a burn victim’s bandage changing.
picture his face changing, brow furrowing, lips pressing into a thin line, and when the masked nurse bustles out past him, he slips into the room and goes right up to the patient’s bedside. The kid’s barely nineteen, from the looks of it, and half his face and most of his arm and chest are blistered and charred with healing third-degree burns. “Gasoline bonfire?” Lucifer guesses, tone humorless, eyes soft, and the kid - still shuddering, crying, waiting for the morphine to kick in - merely nods, a fresh tear sliding down the unblemished half of his face. He asks who Lucifer is, in a voice heartbreakingly raspy from smoke inhalation damage.
Lucifer offers the lad a tight smile, then allows his own face to momentarily dissolve in amiable solidarity. “Just like you,” he murmurs, and turns to leave as the kid starts shouting. “Careful with fire; it tends to burn.” And, as the kid yells for help, he is suddenly silenced by an inconspicuous wave of Lucifer’s hand, and then his shuddering cries fade into a blissful, pain-free sigh, eyes closing. “Sleep well, compadre,” Lucifer mutters, ducking out of the room as two nurses come running back in.
