Still, he settled behind, his hand dragging slow and steady across their back, voice dropping to a murmur.

“Don’t go gettin’ used to it, darlin’. I ain’t in the business of lullabies… but just this once.”

Exception

Tony has rules.

He doesn’t like it when people stand behind him. He doesn’t like it when people touch him. He doesn’t like it when people can see the arc reactor, or the shrapnel scars scattered across his skin in constellations.

But here and now, he is leaning back against Steve’s firm support. He is letting his head hang loose as Steve’s thumbs dig into the tendons at the base of his neck. He is melting under the warmth of Steve’s hands against the bare skin of his shoulders.

Here and now, with Steve, he never wants it to stop.

Chloe to rub Lucifer’s back, firm but soothing circles, her face pinched with worry. He’s bent over, obviously very frustrated or exhausted (or both), eyes closed, one hand rubbing his forehead, the other arm bent over as he leans on it for support. Just...soft deckerstar backrubs for emotional (or, ideally, physical) hurt/comfort!

I always feel weirdly bereft after I finish a big story, so I decided to complete another one that I left hanging forever ago. Final chapter of “between your body and your soul” is posted now. (most people just call it “that backrub story” when they talk to me about it...I can dig it.)

I really need to work on my smut writing, because I just couldn’t get it smoothly integrated into this one, even though I set myself up for it pretty well.

Arg. Maybe I’ll add an epilogue.
