Which ones did you tour?
UNC Asheville, UNC Chapel Hill, Duke, and Appalachian State University this week and then last month I did Northwestern and the University of Chicago (and Northwestern is the only college I've fallen in love with)

oh man i didn't know if you were getting upset about it or not I'M SORRY
anne hathaway's character isn't "starving or whatever happens in les mis". she just had to sell her hair, her teeth, and her body to give money to her daughter to survive.
calm down
That actually sounds good to me haha. My high school is a campus. Although there are only about 1000 students, we have a courtyard and separated buildings. We don't have hallways or lockers, we have to walk outside to get to each of our classes, whilst we see our friends and bump into people we know. Do you know anything about journalism there? I think if I had to choose a major it would either be that or psychology.
Well then you'd probably like it!
I don't know anything about journalism, besides the fact that it is in CAS, sorry. Although I do know quite a few psych majors so that's definitely one of the more popular majors at the school.
NYU Local has a good guide on the major though, if you haven't seen it already: http://nyulocal.com/on-campus/2011/12/06/guide-to-majors-at-nyu-journalism/
wow that was great thank you! but why do you say it's not the typical college experience? because of the city surroundings?
Yeah, definitely. There is no campus. You are legitimately in the middle of the city along with everyone else. Therefore, leaving to and from class/the dorms, you're continuously encountering people that don't go to NYU since you're not on a secluded campus. It's nice being in the city but sometimes it just feels as though you're going to class and then once you get out, you're going home to a completely different place everyday rather than feeling a connection between yourself and the university once you're outside of your classes. This also makes it a bit harder to meet people just because everyone is so all over the place and not concentrated into just one area. It can get very lonely at times and I'm finding now that so many people I know have or have thought about transferring out just b/c it's nowhere near what they were expecting when they initially wanted to come. But I definitely think that joining clubs, meeting people in your smaller classes, or even joining Greek Life (which I did this semester) can help to meet people. It's just that sometimes, I actually do get jealous of people that did choose to go to a traditional college campus with a "quad" and all that other college-y stuff haha.
It's definitely not the "community" that they sell you in the brochures and pamphlets, I will tell you that. But again, it is definitely what you make it and if you're surrounded by a good group of people, it can definitely be a great place. And not everyone dislikes the no-campus thing...it's just that, for me, it was something that I thought I'd really enjoy but I found that that was not the case.
