What's most striking, and ironic, is that the Norwegian response to the Oslo attack is so glaringly un-American even though its core premise -- a brave refusal to sacrifice liberty and transparency in the name of fear and security -- was once the political value Americans boasted of exhibiting most. What we now have instead is the instinctive exploitation by political elites of every threat -- real and imagined -- as a means of eroding liberties, privacy and openness, based in part on fear and in part on an opportunistic desire for greater power. That's why Norway's courageous, principled response seems so foreign to American eyes and ears.
- An un-American response to the Oslo attack
Amazing.
My heart goes out to the people of Norway
what happened was a true catastrophe. I am still in shock that this was done by one man, one horrible, despicable man who goes and bombs a building with government officials killing and severely injuring many. Then he goes to and island where there is a camp of teenagers between 17 and 19 years old who's families are part of the Labor party (from what I understood), dresses like a police officer and hunts down these kids. He would go around saying "you will be safe with me" and killed them. The ones who tried to swim away saw the water was too cold and went back to the island hopping they could hide.
I hope this man rots. His insanity to want a more right-wing government led to the death of 92 people and probably more.
This catastrophe truly breaks my heart.
En dyp sorg ligger over oss. <3
seems sleeping is out of the question tonight. everything just feels wrong and horrific and painful.
Just can't stop thinking about those poor kids and the trauma they've experienced trying to escape the gunman dressed as a policeman while their friends are falling all around them. It is like a horrormovie. I will never ever watch battle royale after this ever again. ugh
New rumors tells that the body count might be 20-30. It's so bloody unreal and unfair. To each and every degree I am so fucking heartbroken. And I might never get the sound of the bomb exploding out of my head..
