Rewatching the back to the future movies taught me something

Marty hates being called a coward because his father was originally one, and kids tend to try and be better than their parents.

In Marty’s case, he saw cowardice as weak and hated it. This resulted in him becoming the exact opposite: Hot-headed (like Biff originally was). He NEVER stood down from a challenge. That was until Tanim (or however the fuck you spell that cowboy wannabe’s name) challenged him to a challenge unlike any other…a duel. Unlike the other challenges, this one could have only one winner. Outcome for loser? Death. This was a life or death situation. And even for a hit-head, fight or flight outways that. And out of the two, flight meant survival. So he stepped down. When he got back, he stepped down from a race. He learned to pick his fights, and know when to accept that he wouldn’t win.
