Earlier this year, we visited Dakar, Senegal, to film a documentary about the infamous 'Door Of No Return' on Goree Island, perhaps the most well known of the 'slave forts' dotted the coast of West Africa. We interviewed a number of young students studying at the Senegal American Bilingual School. This powerfully symbolic 'memorial' to slavery is about 30 minutes from their campus. We asked these students what the 'Door Of No Return' means to them. They were quite articulate in their responses. They have definite opinions about the causes of racism, and what needs to be done to keep this 'beast' at bay. In light of recent events in America involving confrontations between the police & African Americans, we feel that these young voices from the other side of the Atlantic might resonate with the American public. https://vimeo.com/103410344
