Dear all,
This is Mustapha Altaoel, a Syrian guy in his early twenties who has lost a leg in Homs (Syria) during one of the most brutal wars of the century, the Syrian conflict.
The horrors of a war are already a dramatic burden to live with, but in this case he had to deal with this invalidity that made everything even more tragic.
Mustapha knocked all possible doors – NGOs, doctors, associations and medical centers of the area – and even attempted to get the treatment he needs in Turkey, with no positive feedback.
The surgery he needs to undergo is an osseointegration, a highly invasive procedure based on the ability of human bone cells to attach to a metal surface. To date, osseointegration is used for permanent anchorage of artificial limbs to the human skeleton. In a surgical procedure, a titanium implant is inserted into the leg bone and this implant penetrates through the skin. The artificial limb is easily attached to this implant with a connector.
This surgery costs $7500 and by no means he can afford it: he is trying to raise money for this cause and would really use your help. Even a small donation would help him reach his goal.
