Terezi Pyrope (part 1) at Alivestucks, the Homestuck panel at MiraiCon 2014.
(The rest of my MiraiCon 2014 photos are here; many of them don't show up if you only follow the #miraicon tag because I couldn't fit it into the first five tags of each post)
My own personal reflection on the going-ons of Kotoricon 2014. I was the massively famous (infamous?) and dorktastic God Tier Jake English that popped up all over the con to run the photoshoot and Jake and Jade's Homestuck Adventure!
Undoubtedly, the best part of the con was the people.
Yes, running the panel and photoshoot was stressful successful and fun but I seriously would not have enjoyed the con HALF as much without my best cosplay friends.
Also, I'm pretty sure this con marks the point at which I hang my Jake English hat for a little while to focus on other characters. Specifically, mister nubby mcshouty himself.
So what did I do at Kotori?
With the drive down, I got there at about 10. AND I GOT TO SEE JAB AND EVERYONE IN THE FIRST FEW MINUTES. And... was given a banana. Ironically fitting for my cosplay. And at that point, I wandered the Artist Alley and Dealers Room aimlessly (and surprisingly never bought a single thing!) for the two hours and posed for a few photos. It was a slow interim. At 12:30, the Homestuck meet up began, and I was one of the first 3 people in the meet-up room. Hussie gave us sopor pies and we all had fun for a while, until THAT got overcrowded and they pushed us outside.
At that point, I got to yell for the first time (golly gosh) while standing on a bench to announce photoshoot stuff. From there, I chatted with a few Homestucks before the rain came DOWN. So we evacuated upstairs and almost called it off until we ran the shoot IN THE HALLWAY. And everyone was so cooperative, and we got move down the hall to the new room, and I was so appreciative of the quietness and smooth transitioning of it all. And with that I likely won't ever run a photoshoot without more yelling help ever. My voice isn't strong enough alone tbh.
After the shoot, I went to karaoke with some friends and had lunch and generally relaxed. At 4:20 I SPRINTED through the parking lot to get the panel stuff from the car. And it was pouring and cold and I was in booty shorts with the umbrella. Thank you muchly to Sam and Melissa for helping me move all that shit.
4:30 and all the cast met in the meet-up room to practice. And it was perfect until 5:15 where THERE WERE 50 PEOPLE OUTSIDE THE ROOM ALREADY QUEUED FOR OUR PANEL. IT WAS INSANE. So they moved us to the Mezzanine where we had the mic and no powerpoint. I swear 80% of everything I did in that panel was fresh out improv that I did off the top of my head.
The panel (which was quite successful and hopefully entertaining) ended, we got a wonderful cast photo and JEM PRESENTED ME WITH THE BEST SHIRT EVER THAT SAYS TO "ASK GEORGIA SHE USUALLY KNOWS THE ANSWER" THAT WAS SIGNED BY THE CAST I'M SO HAPPY FOR IT. THEY ARE SO GREAT FOR DOING IT. We as the cast we then had a toast of Tab to celebrate (first Tab ever!) and then I went home.
Will I go to Kotoricon next year? Yes. Will I run a panel? For sure, especially making note that they give us the biggest room possible. Will I run the photoshoot? Probably. Especially if no one else does.
Essentially, I thought stuff was a tiny bit disorganized at Kotori simply because they didn't know how to deal with Homestucks. But I'm glad they could accomodate us. And I look forward to yet another Homestuck panel for Kotori 2015 ;3
