Juliet Darwin - Gravity Falls
Z TIZERGB UZOOH LX!
Hello there, it’s me! That’s right i’m here again. The coolest, charming and most active Admin NightmareSpinner 。.:☆*:・
Okay, okay I’m done. Let’s get started already.
Meet Gravity Falls OC Juliet Darwin.
Well, my head hurts, and stuff. Anyways, I decided to try a little shading into my pictures...I will NEVER do that again I was up past 4 in the morning when I finally finished the picture! Anyways, I've been into Gravity Falls and the urge to make an OC has been bugging me for days! And so I finally caved in and made one. If only I knew what to do with her now, I'm all out of ideas for a fanfic, especially something for Gravity falls. So here she is, I hope she isn't a mary-sue...
The shading looks legitimate and I too hope she’s not a mary sue. Also what’s with the heterochromia? Do I get an explanation? Actually, this is good the creator didn’t treat it as a “special snowflake” quality I respect that. Her outfit, It’s summer I like wearing thigh highs just as much as the next guy but it’s summer. Lemme tell you a story about the time I decided to take a train to Chicago this summer, I, being the “kawaii-chan” that I am decided to wear black thigh highs in like 70 degree heat and believe me when I say I was melting, figuratively melting. Now some people might be able to handle summer heat and thigh highs but to top it all off you added a jacket, maybe it’s just me but I wouldn’t recommend that outfit choice during the summer.
Name: Juliet Darwin
Gender: Female
Age: 11
Born: October 29th 1999
Ummm correct me if I’m wrong but the OC was created in 2015 and being born in 1999 would make her 15, today, but since Gravity Falls takes place in summer 2012 makes her 13 still not 11. I would leave out the birth year, unless you make it relevant to the series and the age you gave her.
Personality:
Positive= Athletic- well, not really, but she does have a passion for baseball, she had been playing ever since she was 5, and she now applies to her skills (sometimes) when needed, though not exactly all the time, and they don’t help every time either.
Focused- if she has decided on something, it’s almost impossible to divert her from it, especially mysteries, puzzles, and the supernatural.
Observant and flexible- Her flexibility is the key to her success, able to reassess the situation and take a different approach, also making her adaptable and versatile.
Intelligent- she has an excellent memory and is able to take the time and make a plan, however she only plans according to the bigger picture of things instead of details, causing hole in her plans that could lead to unraveling and her getting into big trouble.
Brave- After her first encounter with the cryptic, paranormal, and dangers, she would panic and hide often, and live in fear. She eventually got a grip over herself and now no longer loses sleep over those disruptive times and her failures. She will take them head on regardless how difficult the situation may seem, and then run away because her stupid plans blow up in her face.
Faithful- She’s a trustworthy person (Somewhat) and very faithful. She will stand by her friends’ side if she promised she would.
Ambitious- Due to her athletic past, she’s competitive, and willing to achieve her goals. Due to this, she’s determined to find out more on the paranormal here in Gravity Falls and get to the bottom of this once and for all! Even at the price of isolating herself so she can figure out more on the subject.
Why not really? Doesn’t playing baseball count as being athletic? And being focused but flexible if you want to make your character focused and diligent then stick with that, I know it sounds good to have both but that’s the thing it’s too good, it makes your character less likable and relate-able. Also grammar, I’m not the type of person to judge you or your character just off your grammar but I suggest laying off the commas they make run on sentences. Now onto the list of negative qualities, let’s just hope they don’t contradict these positive ones.
Negative= Grudge holder- Due to her excellent memory and combined with the inability to let things go, she can hold a grudge against someone who did her harm forever, in fact she rarely forgets, though she can forgive, just expect her to figure out a way for her to get even. Pushy- expect her to try to enforce her way due to stubbornness. When it comes to having her way, she has trouble compromising and so she doesn’t always follow loyally behind the leader often, creating strife. Selfish- because she mostly sees her own ways a lot of the time, it can lead to selfishness on her part and hurting people, but in the end she’ll do what is right Procrastinator- though she is focused she can also have the tendency to procrastinate, if she’s not focused on doing something she’s less likely to do it, or she’ll hold it off till the last moment. This also furthered after she started discovering secrets of Gravity Falls, and now she’s more behind on whatever else she was supposed to do Can’t be taken seriously- her looks and the way she dresses, plus her tendency to try to get people to pay attention to what’s going on, has led her to not be taken seriously at all. Like the boy who cried wolf, she started off just making up rumors of monsters just to mess with people, but now that she has actually found out that some of her lies are in fact true she finds herself standing alone against the monsters Compulsive lying- Whenever she starts a lie, she can’t stop it, it starts out very good, but when she’s asked again and more pressure is added, it gets more and more ridiculous as she continues or if she keeps being asked about it. The lies keep piling on and on and on until finally it either topples over and she finds herself (or others if it’s about them) exposed or she finally caves in and tells the truth
So one of the first things I noticed or the first thing that stood out to me was the “Procrastinator” in the positives there was ambitious and I know a lot of people call themselves an “ambitious procrastinator” but that just doesn’t make sense, being ambitious is all about doing not thinking about doing or saying your gonna do. I like how the “Can’t be Taken Seriously” and “Compulsive Lying” ties in but then again i’m kinda iffy on the compulsive lying. While it’s not considered a mental illness it does share similarities with mental illnesses and the way you described it does not sound like compulsive lying. If you want to make your character a compulsive liar then here are some things to note.
The definition of compulsive: “Resulting from or relating to an irresistible urge, especially one that is against one's conscious wishes.” Compulsive liars, hell compulsive anythings don’t just do stuff for the sake of doing it, they don’t necessarily want to lie.
An accurate description of compulsive lying:
“A compulsive liar will resort to telling lies, regardless of the situation. Again, everyone lies from time to time, but for a compulsive liar, telling lies is routine. It becomes a habit—a way of life.
Simply put, for a compulsive liar, lying becomes second nature. Not only do compulsive liars bend the truth about issues large and small, they take comfort in it. Lying feels right to a compulsive liar. Telling the truth, on the other hand, is difficult and uncomfortable.”
“Not only do compulsive liars bend the truth about issues large and small, they take comfort in it. Lying feels right to a compulsive liar. Telling the truth, on the other hand, is difficult and uncomfortable.
And like any behavior which provides comfort and an escape from discomfort (i.e., alcohol, drugs, sex), lying can become addictive and hard to stop. For the compulsive liar, lying feels safe and this fuels the desire to lie even more.
Making matters even more complicated, compulsive lying is often a symptom of a much larger personality disorder, which only makes the problem more difficult to resolve (see narcissistic personality disorder and borderline personality disorder).
Compulsive lying can be dealt with through counseling or therapy. But, like any addictive behavior (and/or personality disorder), getting someone to admit they have a problem with lying is the difficult part. Sadly enough, getting someone to recognize that he or she has a problem usually requires hitting rock bottom first.”

Just remember not to make your character the poster child for compulsive lying if you want to keep this trait write it correctly and don’t let it be the main thing for your character which you’ve done a pretty good job at so far.
Background: Her parents are going through a divorce, so she was sent to live with her older half-sister Minnie for the summer so she wouldn’t get caught up in all that mess. She isn’t angsty about it though, but it is a bit upsetting. While she was staying with her sister, she finds her behaviors quite strange, she isn’t allowed to walk after dark, she has to call her sister so she can pick her up, she’s not supposed to get involved with the supernatural, and to be very careful as she’s outside, it’s a small town, a very small town, what exactly happens here? This inspired her to start running around telling lies about supernatural things, stories about witches, werewolves, vampires, little men, all sorts of things. However, she finds out that some of her telltales are in fact REAL and she tries to tell everyone else, but they don’t listen to her as she had dug her own grave when she went about lying, though to be honest no one would have believed her anyways. Whenever she tries to tell her sister, she just debunks it as her telling stories again, though Juliet notices she’s stressed out. She eventually closes herself off from telling her now truthful stories when she tried one last time when Pacifica Northwest encouraged her on a stage in front of the whole town, to tell her story, and she bravely did. Only to be ridiculed and laughed off the stage by the mean girl, her cronies, and everyone else in town. Usually, this would make other people stop their ranting and raving, but she decides to investigate further into the secrets this backwater town really have. In the process, she has met Dipper and Mabel who had told her that they too have discovered some strange things in town as well, and that she is not alone, she offered for help. This summer might actually prove to be interesting
It’s nice to see you didn’t push your character into the story though you kinda did with the main cast which I really don’t mind as long as you keep the characters in.....character. Your backstory wasn’t too much like a lot of OC creators do, it was pretty normal and that is perfect.
Skills and abilities: Due to her playing baseball throughout her life, she’s a fast runner, and contains fast reflexes as she has to avoid getting touched by the ball, and she has to run faster than someone can through. She’s also quite skillful with a bat and has some upper body strength
Likes: Baseball, puzzles, supernatural, mysteries, finding out secrets
Dislikes: being caught in a lie, when her vengeance backfires, when her plans fall apart, when her own secrets are discovered,
Other: -Her parents are having a divorce
-She’s one of the few people aware of the supernatural in Gravity Falls
-She plays baseball
-Her sister acts super weird, and tries to get her to stop investigating Gravity Falls
Her sister sounds like someone I know.....a canon character I know, season one Stanley Pines (or Grunkle Stan, whatever floats your boat). Why is her sister secretive, Stan had the portal and his brother what does she have to be secretive about? Why does her half sister know about the supernatural in Gravity Falls?
Just some things going forward:
Try not to make your character too important in the overall scheme of things, she knows about the strange things of Gravity Falls avoid making her a huge part in Bill’s plans or “the chosen one”. The main characters all have a spot on the “Cipher Wheel and play a big part in Bill’s plans don’t make your character apart of all of these things. Take Wendy, she isn’t constantly around the Pines family or constantly involved in the mysteries. I feel like we can know more about your character than we do Wendy’s character, as this might be your story, but keep it in plot.
Plot. Plot. Plot if you chose to make a story or fanfiction I guarantee the hypothetical people who will read will enjoy it more if it focuses on; the main character (acting how they would act in canon), Juliet and the actual damn story. The thing about Fallers (Gravity Falls Fans) is the perfect balance between fanon and hardcore theories your story should have that same perfect balance.
Fix the contradictory statements.
Don’t let your character speak the truth so easily even if she does get caught in a lie. You wanna know what compulsive liars would do when caught in a lie, lie some more!
Overall I think you had a pleasant character and, I do think these gifs are needed
For you character:
And for you:
Peace and happy writing! I, NightmareSpinner am needed elsewhere~
