I've been in several videogame fandoms, and having a company actively interacting with the community is hell: cutthroat art scene, people holding grudges over BNFs allegedly being friends with a developer, crying over not being chosen to be on the official spotlight, writers never being publicly recognized as content creators even by other (popular) types of creators, more obsession with keeping everything close to canon, etc. Involving TPTB in fandom was a mistake
