Zamarin Harris is twenty-six years old and a drag performer in Greensville.
Zamarin was born in Arlington, Texas to Davida and Shaun Harris. As a child, Zam was very shy and reserved, the opposite of who he is today. He was known in the local protestant church as the shy boy with a beautiful voice who came every Sunday with his family and sang in church choir. In school, he was known as the quiet guy who was on the school’s wrestling team and spent his free time either doing homework or working out. What people didn’t know about him back then was that he was gay. By the time he entered middle school, Zam knew he liked boys, but he didn’t tell anyone for many years out of fear of rejection. He tried to imitate his older brothers, Keenan and Devonte, by acting like a tough guy and dating many girls, but none of these relationships lasted long. He never felt a thing for any of the girls he brought home, but he still felt as though he needed to do this to make his parents proud. He could never fully measure up to his brothers, so eventually he stopped trying. After graduating high school, he came to terms with his sexuality, but not without consequences. He became estranged from his family after telling them, and moved out on his own to San Antonio, where he began bartending at a local gay club. A few months into the job, he befriended Ryan Howard, a regular drag performer at the club, and his boyfriend, Patrick Hammond. Ryan inspired Zam to try drag himself, and soon he found himself performing at clubs all around the San Antonio area. Thanks to his new friends, he discovered a love for performing in drag. By day, he was Zamarin Harris, a young man coming into himself; by night, he was Kim Kartrashian, a loud-mouthed queen who didn’t take shit from anyone. Kim was the proud, confident side of Zam that he had never felt comfortable enough sharing with the world up until that point. Once Zam started doing drag more often, he found himself getting closer to Ryan, and at 20 years old, Ryan started to pursue him, despite the fact that he was ten years older and still had a boyfriend. Their affair lasted a year before Patrick caught wind and broke up with Ryan. It was at that point that Zam and Ryan made their relationship official and moved to Asheville, North Carolina together. In North Carolina, Zam became a full-time drag performer, while Ryan became a private piano instructor and only did drag occasionally. Even though Zam enjoyed what he was doing and had gained a following both in real life and online, he couldn’t help but feel himself drifting apart from his boyfriend. After two years of being in Asheville, he discovered that Ryan had been cheating on him, which lead to the couple breaking up and Zam moving out on his own. Zam threw himself into his art, focusing all of his energy on his drag performances and singing videos on YouTube, which earned him an even larger online following. It was through the internet that he became connected to Henry Lafayette, the co-owner of a nightclub in Greensville. It started with a guest performance at a pride event in June of 2016, but by the start of 2018, he found himself with a full-time job offer at Rain n’ Bows. It was in 2018 that he made the move from Asheville to Greensville and he hasn’t looked back since. Though he still loves doing drag and wants to continue doing it, he has recently started pursuing a certification to become a personal trainer, a job that would give him more financial stability and healthcare benefits. His hope is that he’ll be able to balance both passions.

Shelley Rachel Cunningham is twenty-four years old and a waitress in Greensville.
Shelley was born and raised in Greensville, North Carolina. She was the result of unprotected sex between two high school seniors, Sharron Wright and Robert Blum. Shortly after Shelley’s birth, Sharron left the country for a four-year backpacking trip through Europe, and Robert moved to Arizona, leaving the infant in the care of her maternal grandparents, Gloria and Richard Wright, and her uncle, George Wright, who lived with them and never had any children of his own. Shelley grew up knowing that she wasn’t wanted by either of her parents. When she was four, her mother came back to Greensville and moved into a nearby apartment, but she was always going out partying and sleeping with more men than Shelley could keep count of. Her father, on the other hand, met another woman, married her, and started a family. She’s only met her two half-siblings a handful of times and thinks they’re great kids, but is envious of the fact that they have the father she never had. Between her mother’s behavior and her father’s new, better family, Shelley grew up with the belief that she was unlovable. Her grandparents gave her all the love they had, but it wasn’t enough to fill the parent-shaped hole in her heart. Despite her parental issues, Shelley was never bitter towards others. She had a good sum of people she called friends and had good grades at the private school her grandparents sent her to. Once she graduated high school, she was able to get a scholarship to a private university in New York. Though she loved being in New York, she was unable to afford living there longterm and was unable to find a job with only a bachelor’s in history, so she returned to live with her grandparents in Greensville. Now that they were older and could no longer work, Shelley needed to get a job to help out with bills. While working as a Starbucks barista, she met Colin Bassett, the first and only love of her life. The two hit it off almost instantly and it wasn’t long before they began dating. Once Colin was able to become a full-time DJ at Rain n’ Bows, Greensville’s local night club, he was able to get her a waitressing job there. The two had a happy relationship for two years before they began fighting over issues, particularly the issue of having children. While Colin wanted to be a father, Shelley wanted nothing to do with motherhood, fearing that she would turn out to be as horrible as her mother was. The two ended things at the end of 2018, but because they both work at the club, they still see each other nearly every day. Though she has thought of quitting just to avoid him, she desperately needs the money, she likes her bosses and other coworkers, and this is the highest paying job she’s ever had, so for now she’ll have to endure the awkwardness.
