relationships are 50/50. I watched The Rookie for @timandlucy and now she’s watching Shadow and Bone for me
Kind of old, kind of unfinished/rough. But I really enjoyed doing this :). The idea of them realizing they have feeling for the other beyond friendship and slowly working it out as they continue to hang out is something I’m 100% here for.
This relationship is a love story.
“Ok, but are they IN love, though?”
It’s a love story, so yes.
“No, that’s different, there are all kinds of love. Like love in a family or-”
Do they function as a family? Like a sibling or parent/child kind of family?
“But I think/someone else could argue that you can love someone as a very close friend.”
Yeah, definitely, I’ve had a very long relationship before, and she was my absolute best friend, and we’re still friends though not as close. Friendship informed my relationship with her, in absolutely every single way.
“And there is a difference between your friendship now and your relationship then, right?”
Right. For sure. And this relationship is a love story.
“Ok, but this relationship - I or someone else could argue it’s not that kind of relationship, because they don’t touch or kiss or-”
Do all relationships have touching or kissing?
“No, but the visual cue is helpful.”
Sure, if it makes sense for the characters at the time. Or if it’s the kind of relationship that would have touching or kissing. Not all fiction does that though, even with male/female couples, right?
“It can still be ambiguous if that doesn’t happen.”
Look, I have had a pairing flat-out sleep with each other, and be happy about it afterward, and someone was still arguing ‘they’re confused.’ And I do not think that was the story’s fault. And I don’t think every pairing has to do that to display what’s going on.
“Ok, but I’m talking about in love. Like dating.”
Yeah, they do that.
“And knowing each other deeply.”
Check.
“Feeling deeply happy when you think about the other person. Needing to be with them. Having a different kind of relationship than you have with any other-”
