Spencer stood outside of Roderick’s house for a few moments when he got there, reading over their text messages. He was frustrated, but he wasn’t sure if he was frustrated with Roderick, the bullies, or himself. He didn’t realize how much it had been affecting his friend, and that made him feel like he’d failed his best friend. At the same time, he was upset with Roderick for not coming to him when he was having these problems. He sighed, deciding that ultimately he was going to choose to be mad at the bullies and no one else.
With that thought, he opened the door and stormed straight up to Roderick’s room. He knocked once but then just opened it, knowing that the boy wasn’t going to get up. “Okay,” he said, pursing his lips. “I’m going to hug you now. But it’s going to be a bro hug. Like a tackle bro-hug, okay? And then we’re going to talk,” he said firmly, before marching over to the bed and jumping on top of Roderick with maybe a bit more force than necessary and wrapping his best friend in a hug.
After a moment he pulled back, sitting up straight next to him on the bed. “What’s going on?” he asked softly, “What has you so upset that you’d actually consider giving up Glee club?” he asked. He knew it must be serious because Roderick didn’t have other friends before the club. To Spencer, quitting was weakness, but he knew how important Glee was to Roderick and so he was trying to be a good listener and figure out what was actually bothering his friend so he could fix it.
