I HAD ANOTHER THOUGHT!! otter dean x otter reader who hold hands in their sleep… its instinct, so you don’t drift apart, but also simply because you can’t stand the thought of not holding eachother… he gifts you pretty rocks he finds, helps you with nuts that you can’t crack open… guys they’re so cute!
You're killing me with these!!!! (pos) - I'm absolutely loving this 💖
- also since otters don't eat nuts I changed it to muscles/oysters, I hope you don't mind!!
It started off in the library. You were on one end of the couch while Dean was on the other, flicking through lore books and fighting off sleep. You both seemed to have trouble for some reason, neither of you knew why.
After a few more chapters, you drifted closer to him, and he didn't realize it, but so did he.
It didn't take much longer for your cheek to rest on his shoulder, your hands intertwining effortlessly.
Then, it became a ritual of sorts.
You'd never slept as well as you did that night, so it only made sense to do it again, right?
Well, either way, it was life now. You and Dean would lay in bed together, hands gently but firmly bound, tethering you to each other in your most vulnerable moments.
Neither of you could stand the thought of losing the other and though this wasn't going to save you from monsters and demons and angels, it was a soft comfort, making you feel like you wouldn't drift away from each other.
Soon, holding hands isn't all you do....
You also eat muscles together.
It's simple and maybe a little stupid, but you enjoy it possibly more than you should.
But that might just be because occasionally you pretend the shells are too hard. You meant it once, you were trying to crack a tough oyster and you just couldn't quite get it so you asked Dean for help.
You didn't make a big deal of it, you just asked simply, but the look on Dean's face made you realize it wasn't simple, not for him.
Because you needed him. In that moment, you needed him.
It's not like you never needed him before, but this was different, and it made him melt.
From then on, every now and then, you'd pretend you couldn't open you muscles and oysters, and the little look of pride on his face was just painfully adorable.
Almost as adorable as your rock collection.
One day on a way, Dean saw a rock and sheepishly handed it to you, mumbling something like "Thought you'd like it, doesn't mean anything"
But it does. Because he keeps giving you rocks.
Whenever he finds one that's an odd shape, a pretty colour or far too smooth, it's yours. He leaves them where you'll find them, your bedside table, next to the coffee pot in the kitchen, on your favourite armchair in the library.
If you're out and spots a rock he knows you'll love, he slips it into your pocket or palm casually. It's so adorable.
And you do love them. Each and every one.
You have a little chest in your room where you keep them. If you have enough space, you separate them into colour order, the most perfect, smooth ones go in a special box you keep besides your bed and when he finds out he feels something warm explode in his chest.
