You woke to the sound of rustling sheets, Adam moving next to you in bed. You drowsily blinked open your eyes, turning them to the clock on the nightstand, the time being just after midnight; way too early for him to be awake, no matter how much of a morning person he was. He sat up, back facing you, as he went to leave the bed, only for you to grab onto him tiredly.
"Adam," you spoke sleepily, trying to pull him back down with you, eager to get back to sleep. "Where are you going...?" Then, you stopped, your eyes widening as he turned to look down at you, the last remnants of tears he must've tried to wipe away in his golden eyes. "Hey, what's wrong?" You asked gently, now wide awake.
He shook his head, pulling away from you. "I'm fine, babe. Go back to sleep." He deflected, avoiding your gaze. "Just a bad dream, my favorite guitar broke, usual nightmare shit." He stood up, heading over to the balcony, peering out into Heaven's night sky. Something was bothering him, and you severely doubted it was just about a guitar. He never avoided you like this before, his usual overconfident self prone to attracting attention instead of dodging it.
"Adam..." You murmured, following him outside, placing yourself under one of his large, soft wings for warmth, him wrapping it around you out of habit. "Tell me what really happened, honey." You gave him a sympathetic smile. "You can tell me about whatever's bothering you. I promise I'll be here, even if I was a massive bitch in your dream or something," you joked, earning a small laugh from him.
He stayed silent for a long moment, staring out into the cityscape before speaking, voice soft. "You wouldn't leave me for anyone else, right?" He hesitantly questioned, turning his head to you. "It's just..." He paused, biting his lip, unsure if he should say what he wanted to. "You're the first person I've been with in a really long time who wasn't only sex to me, and I—" He hesitated again, wiping tears out of his eyes. "I love you, y'know? I don't wanna lose you like I did to someone else before." He took a deep breath, wing pulling you closer. "Tell me you won't leave."
You frowned, your hurt aching in your chest as you looked at him. He's never been so vulnerable before, and while you're happy he's comfortable, it hurts like no pain you could've ever imagined to see him like this. "I won't leave, I promise." You reassured him, gently kissing him, something he happily returned.
"I'm not Lilith, and I'm most certainly not Eve," you began, wrapping your arms around him. "I wouldn't leave even if you told me to, Adam. You're stuck with me forever, so get used to it."
He laughed again, kissing you with a satisfied hum. "Maybe that's something I wanna get used to. I mean, who else would I give all these kisses to, hmm?" He picked you up, and you let out a surprised yelp that turned into laughter as he carried you to the bed.
"Hey, why don't I help tire you out, babe? I did wake you up and all, didn't I?" He smirked, leaning over you with half-lidded eyes.
Looks like you wouldn't be getting much sleep.
Lucifer shot awake, heart pounding in his chest as he looked around the room, eyes looking frantically around before settling on you next to him, sleeping soundly. He calmed down at the sight of you, taking a deep breath as his nightmare replayed in his head. Everyone had left him. Charlie left him. You left him. He had no one again. He was alone.
"Fuck," He whispered out, voice shaky as the fear consumed his mind. He reached out, trembling hand coming to slowly brush a stray lock of hair out of your face, admiring how peaceful you looked. He'd do anything if it meant you'd stay with him, no matter who or what it took to keep you happy. He couldn't lose the love of his life again, not after Lilith.
"Lucifer...?" You mumbled, eyes adjusting in the dark as you began to wake up. "What's wrong? Did you have another nightmare?" You sat up, blinking the sleepiness out of your eyes. You moved closer, hugging his shaky body as he rested his head on your shoulder, nuzzling into the crook of your neck. He clung to you tightly, trying to calm his breathing as you rubbed a hand on his back, helping to soothe him.
"Was it the dream about Lilith again...?" You questioned gently, approaching the subject with caution so as to not upset him even further, knowing just how much even the mention of her hurt him.
"No," he croaked out, hugging you tighter. "It was a new one. Charlie left, a-and—" He sobbed, wiping away his tears before speaking again. "You left, too. Everyone left. I was alone again." He buried his head deep into your shoulder, sticking to you as he cried, body shaking with sobs as he let it out.
"Shh..." You hushed softly, "I'm here, everything's okay, you'd know I'd never leave you, my love." You pressed small kisses to his hair, rocking him gently as he grew calmer, eventually taking his face off your shoulder.
"I'm sorry," he apologized in embarrassment, blushing as he looked away. "I didn't mean to wake you up, and now your shirt's all wet..."
You shook your head, holding his face in your hands. "Don't be, Lucifer. I love you, and that means you can come to me whenever you need to, even if it's the middle of the night." Then an idea crossed your mind, and you grinned. "Hey, how about we get a midnight snack to cheer you up? We can make hot chocolate!"
His eyes lit up. "Let's put marshmallows in it!"
One moment, you were having an amazing dream. and then the next you're awake, eyes closed, but feeling like something was watching you. "Wha—" You mumbled, opening your eyes, jumping at the sight of Abel staring down at you.
"Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry—" He frantically apologized, moving away and back to his side of the bed. "I just had a nightmare and I was worried you might've been dead, even though I knew you weren't, but I was really nervous about it and—" He cut himself off to breathe in, out of breath from his hurried explanation.
"Abel, honey, slow down," you encouraged, sitting up as your sleepiness went away. "You had a nightmare? And I'm guessing I died in it?" You recounted his words as best as you could despite how fast they were. He nodded slowly, moving closer before snuggling up to you. "Talk to me about it, Abel," you smiled, running your fingers through his blond hair.
"I guess I've been nervous about becoming head of the exorcists lately," he explained softly, laying his head on your chest. "In my dream, a bunch of sinners had managed to get their way into heaven, and I—" He frowned, sadness in his eyes. "I couldn't do anything to help you, t-they killed you in front of me." Tears welled up in his eyes, and you brushed them away with your thumb, Abel leaning into your touch as you held his cheek in your hand. "I'm not weak, am I? I-I can protect you, right?" He stuttered out, looking into your eyes for a desperate answer.
You nodded with a gentle smile. "You're not weak, Abel. If any demon really were able to get up here, I'm sure I'd be the first person you'd save. Besides, you're too amazing to let any of them up here in the first place."
He blushed at your words, grinning cutely. "You're right, I can be pretty amazing." He leaned in, kissing you. "I'm sorry for waking you up." He murmured, cuddling you closer.
You yawned, resting your head back onto your pillow. "You can make it up to me by making me breakfast in the morning." You joked with a smile, closing your eyes as you relaxed, drifting off to sleep along with Abel.
You jolted awake at the cry of your name, eyes hurriedly gazing at the dark room, only to find nothing. Lute tossed and turned next to you, sobbing in her sleep, her hands balled into fists as she talked in her sleep. You gasped, reaching out to shake her awake, her eyes shooting open, widening when she saw you.
"You're alive?" She exclaimed, grabbing onto you, searching you for any kind of injury. "But you— I saw you get stabbed!" She cried, clinging to you with desperation. "There was so much blood, and I failed and—" Her hands clung to your shirt, burying her face in your chest as she sobbed.
You pulled her closer, hugging her tight as your thoughts raced. She's never cried like this in front of you before; she's always been so on guard up until now. "Lute, shh..." You attempted to soothe, wiping her tears away. "Hey, it was just a nightmare. I'm all okay, you didn't fail anything."
Lute looked up at you, breathing heavily. "You're never going down there, never. I'll never let you be an exorcist like me; it's too dangerous for you." She grabbed your face, her eyes burning with intensity as she looked into yours. "Promise me you'll never go down there. I need to know you'll be safe up here in Heaven." She demanded, tears threatening to well from her eyes.
You nodded quickly. "I promise, Lute. I won't get hurt, I'll always be here with you."
She took a shaky breath, leaning in to kiss you. "I'd kill every last one of them if they ever touched you," she growled against your lips. "You complete me." She kissed you again, pouring all of her love into it, like it'd be the last time she ever saw you again. "I'll keep you safe, I promise." She murmured against you, pulling you back down into the soft pillows of the bed. "Go back to sleep, I'll watch over you."
"Lute, you don't—" You stopped, watching as her eyes narrowed sternly. "Don't forget to sleep, too, okay?" You pleaded to her, a frown on your face.
"I won't," she replied, holding your hand in a silent oath. "Good night."
