New OTW Board!
Further news about the Organization for Transformative Works Board. (The OTW is, among other things, the parent organization for AO3.) You may recall that the two new Board members we just elected were taking office December 1, and the rest of the Board was resigning December 15? Today is December 19! And we have had an announcement of what they are going to do to fill the empty slots. They're going to appoint the three candidates from the last election with the most votes to fill all the slots but one, and then fill three slots instead of two in next year's election. This is about what I predicted they'd do--we just had an election, it wasn't like they were going to get a whole new crop of people volunteering to run who hadn't run in the last election, and anyway, most of the candidates had pretty good resumes and experience. So for those of you who might have been tempted to run around thinking the sky was falling, the board is continuing to chug along and is actually in a pretty good spot right now to clean up the messes left by the previous board and all their predecessors. Nothing has changed for the archive, except it now has a good chance of getting a board that's actually helpful. comments Comment? http://ift.tt/1k8Ekzw
OTW Board Meeting
The first meeting of the all-new OTW Board of Directors (Matty Bowers and Atiya Hakeem) will begin at 09:00 UTC on December 16th. That’s 3 hours from now. The meeting is public and will be held in our Public Discussion chat room.
To anyone looking for a good summary of the OTW Elections events in past couple of months: Fanlore to the rescue. (Kudos to the everyone editing, that’s a great page!)
And in case you missed it earlier, Atiya and Matty, Board members-elect, posted an update. Please remember: the OTW and its projects, including AO3 and Fanlore, aren't going anywhere—despite everything that’s happened, all our volunteers continue their daily work as they have for the past several years. Life goes on! Don’t panic: OTW and AO3 are in no danger whatsoever.
AO3 (and other projects) will keep running as usual. Learn more in this update from the OTW Board members-elect: http://bit.ly/1T2to24
Given that the Organization for Transformative Works has never had a budget yet in all their years of operation (here’s hoping for one in 2016!) I kind of feel like “And the Money Kept Rolling In” from Evita is an appropriate theme song for the board that just departed, and all its antecedents.
