My Story: Chapter 6: Yahweh’s Dancer
So after I recovered from that break up or at least I thought I did, I continued steadfast in the church and my ministry: praise dance. For those of you who never heard of praise dance, it is my passion, so let me tell you all about it.
Dance as an art is intriguing, beautiful, and telling. It is a means to express the soul. When dancing for our God, we use that intrigue to give Him glory. It is by no means entertainment. Whether through praising Him for His wonderful works, or worshiping Him for who He is, we are pointing to Him. To summarize, I have heard it said that as praise dancers our ministry is not to heal the brokenhearted or deliver those in bondage. Our service is simply to invite in the presence of The Almighty. Once Yahweh shows up, all that salvation power becomes available and the power is not of us but of Him.
We are Worship Warriors, ministers through dance. We invite the King to come in and heal hearts, renew minds, and change courses. Above all, we seek to be His oracles or messengers, allowing the Holy Spirit to borrow our bodies as vessels of His anointed Word. Its the Word that destroys yokes, its the Word that defeats the Adversary, its the Word that brings life, liberty, and victory to our lives as humans-the work of His hands and yes, created by His Word.
Recently, I have greatly learned that its not about our qualifications or “worthiness” because its not about us at all. Yes, we have to be ready vessels equipped to do the work but that doesn’t mean that we always live on cloud 9 or we never sin and make mistakes. Our sin and/or confusion does not disqualify us, that is Satan’s lie, its when we refuse to take the Hand reaching out to catch us each time we fall, that we miss out on our calling and our joy.
Notice I said “sin and/or confusion.” Sometimes we can be living in confusion instead of sin. See, confusion is where we might continue to take paths that are not sinful per the Word but not really wise or best for us but we don’t know any other way of dealing with our situations. We are looking for a way out because maybe sitting still or standing in faith didn’t seem to be working too well for us. PAUSE: See this is where many Christians start pointing the finger and laying out stones of condemnation instead of compassion and prayer. They start throwing stones at their brothers and sisters, instead of throwing stones at the Enemy, our Adversary, Satan. That’s why we, the church, lose so many battles, because we forget the real enemy. Instead, we want to talk about what sister such and such did, or what brother so and so struggles with or whose being hypocrites and not being holy enough and BLAH BLAH BLAH! We jump on the side of the Accuser and do his work, instead of our Heavenly Father’s work.
I digress...so I dove into my passion and I let God use me. I went under the tutelage of an experienced dancer, I ministered at every opportunity,at churches or events. I ministered in nursing homes where some of the residents would sleep through our whole dance. Haha! I had fun, I still struggled with my loneliness and wondering when it would be my turn, but I was overall able to pick myself up and see God use us for His work. I learned how to make my own flags. I invested money into garments and I dreamed and dreamed about praise dance! I saw where this could all go and I was excited about it! I wanted to be a priestess of the Most High and be in position to really break yokes and set the captives free and I thought that it depended on my own holiness -- WRONG! I had to learn some things if I was going to carry the Anointing!
