Ohhh my goshh a new Ouran blog!! Okay not a request, but I wanted to ask if you’ve read the manga, and if so, what are some of your favorite moments in it?! Favorite arcs or panels- just whatever comes to mind! If you haven’t read it though then feel free to delete this! ^^
❝ OURAN HIGH SCHOOL HOST CLUB — MANGA THOUGHTS ❞
⸻
AHHH this is such a cute ask stop 😭🩷 and YES I have read the manga and it is genuinely one of my favorites ever. like the anime is iconic but the manga just goes so much deeper with the characters and relationships.
i’ll just ramble a bit about my favorite moments and arcs because there are SO many—
⸻
❝ THE HITACHIIN TWIN DEVELOPMENT ❞
→ Hikaru Hitachiin & Kaoru Hitachiin
this is probably my FAVORITE part of the entire manga.
the way they slowly separate from their codependent identity and start becoming their own people??? insane. the emotional tension??? even more insane.
hikaru especially… watching him struggle with jealousy, confusion, and not understanding his own feelings is SO well written. there are moments where he’s genuinely frustrated with himself and it hurts to read in the best way.
and kaoru quietly stepping back, letting hikaru grow even if it means changing their dynamic… yeah. yeah that destroyed me.
⸻
❝ TAMAKI’S FAMILY ARC ❞
→ Tamaki Suoh
THIS arc changed how i saw tamaki completely.
he goes from “dramatic silly rich boy” to someone carrying a lot of emotional weight. the stuff with his mother and grandmother is actually heartbreaking, and you realize how much of his personality is a coping mechanism.
there’s this shift where his kindness stops feeling performative and starts feeling intentional. like he chooses to love people loudly because he knows what it’s like to be unloved.
and that hits.
⸻
❝ HARUHI BEING… HARUHI ❞
→ Haruhi Fujioka
i LOVE how consistent she is.
she’s not overly romantic, not overly dramatic, but she still cares deeply in her own way. her bluntness is funny but also grounding, especially when everyone else is being ridiculous.
and when she does get emotional?? it hits harder because it’s rare.
also her calling tamaki out will never not be funny.
⸻
❝ KYOYA’S SOFTER SIDE ❞
→ Kyoya Ootori
kyoya in the manga is SO much more than the “calculating shadow king” trope.
there are little moments where he helps people quietly, without wanting recognition, and it completely reframes his character.
he’s still strategic, still observant, but there’s a softness there that he keeps hidden. and when it shows, even a little, it feels huge.
⸻
❝ THE ROMANCE BUILD-UP ❞
→ Tamaki Suoh & Haruhi Fujioka
the slow realization on tamaki’s side is EVERYTHING.
he doesn’t understand his feelings at first, and watching that confusion turn into something genuine and vulnerable is so satisfying.
and haruhi not being swept away immediately?? she takes her time, processes things logically, and that makes the payoff feel so much more real.
it’s not rushed. it’s built.
⸻
❝ OVERALL ❞
the manga just feels more… complete.
more emotional depth more character growth more payoff
it takes everything the anime started and expands it into something that feels fuller and more personal.
like you go in expecting comedy and leave with attachment issues to fictional rich kids 😭
