there’s something sacred about edward’s stubbornness. he loses his body, his home, his childhood, and yet refuses to stay down. he doesn’t believe in gods, only in the people he loves and the promises he made. the world takes and takes, but ed keeps giving back, turning his guilt into motion. maybe that’s what redemption looks like: not forgiveness, but the will to keep creating.
Would people be interested on my take on an in depth analysis of all the ways orufrey parallels this myth and all the times they've been compared/associated with tree/star imagery?
For example how in this art posted by Shirahama in may 2025 (before chapters 90-93 were out) there's both the tree and the star motifs
An Exhaustive Examination of Corazon's Pre-Appearance Mentions and References
As most of us know, Donquixote "Corazon" Rosinante first appears at the start of Trafalgar Law's backstory chapters in the One Piece manga—chapter 761 to be precise. But Cora also has several mentions and references prior to 761.
Let's take a closer look at them! ♡ ︎
Pre-Timeskip - The Heart Pirates
Trafalgar Law’s crew name and association with hearts can be easily connected to Corazon, though at the time of Law’s introduction, there is no indication that this theme was inspired by another character. Oda likely didn't have Law’s exact history in mind way back in Sabaody (he did admit to designing all of the new supernova pirates in a rush, and was later surprised by Law’s overall popularity). Some kind of connection to Donquixote Doflamingo was plausible, at least, given the similarities of his and Law's Jolly Rogers.
♡ ︎
Chapter 666 - "I'm free to go wherever I wish."
This statement from Law during the Punk Hazard arc could be considered a very early reference to Corazon, the person Law credits for giving him such freedom. Oda probably didn’t have Corazon’s character or role fleshed out at this point, but it’s clear that Law is keenly aware of his independence and values it greatly. On re-read, this panel serves as a subtle foreshadowing of Law's cherished savior.
♡ ︎
Chapter 690 - Law's Trauma
In this scene, Doflamingo mocks Law for his Vergo-related trauma. It is not even hinted that a third party was involved in this incident, so we still can’t say if Oda had Corazon in mind yet. At this stage, readers can deduce that Law won his freedom from the Donquixote pirates and doesn’t intend to return to them. The “heart seat" having been saved for Law is also mentioned near the end of the Punk Hazard arc, casting Law as someone Doflamingo may see as a wayward son. Earlier discussion between Doflamingo and Vergo imply that Vergo and Law possessed a deeper familiarity than what is eventually written for Law's backstory. Interestingly, the traumatic incident Doflamingo alludes to ends up being directly related to Corazon. Thus, on the re-read, this line becomes another early reference.
♡ ︎
Chapter 704 SBS - Heart-themed tattoos
The Dressrosa arc is where Law’s distinctive chest tattoo makes its first canonical appearance. In the SBS (the manga's Q&A segment), Oda acknowledges the heart theme while playfully hinting at a deeper meaning. Corazon's role has likely been determined at this point, and Oda will now be gradually working toward the character's reveal, nearly sixty chapters later!
♡
Chapter 705 and on - The Corazon Jacket
Similar to Law's chest tattoo, his iconic Corazon jacket also makes its first appearance early in the Dressrosa arc. Oda acknowledges in SBS 768 that the jacket was custom-made as a tribute to Corazon.
♡
Chapter 724 - "Thirteen years ago"
A little further into the arc, it is revealed that Law actually seeks revenge on Doflamingo for a specific incident from thirteen years ago. A third party is not yet mentioned, but we now have a more specific time frame.
♡
Chapter 725 - "Someone's long-held desire"
Though he is not mentioned by name, Law finally makes a direct (and quite passionate) mention of the person whose goal he is trying to fulfill.
♡
Chapter 729 - "'The D will always cause another storm'!!!"
Near the end of Law and Doflamingo's battle on the bridge, Doflamingo asks why Law puts so much trust in the Straw Hat pirates, with whom Law has since formed an alliance. While Law's interest in the D initial is obvious (and could offer motivation for saving Monkey D. Luffy during the Marineford war), the words he imparts to Doflamingo are cryptic. It remains unclear what Law's personal connection to "D" is (in the manga, it has not yet been revealed that Law is a "D" himself) or who exactly he is quoting.
♡
Chapter 729 - "Cora-san...!!"
The first mention of Corazon by name comes in the form of Law's presumed dying thoughts after being shot by Doflamingo. Though, it is not the literal name "Corazon" but rather the nickname Law uses for him: Cora-san (the official English translation omits the honorific).
♡
Chapter 749 - "someone that I loved!!"
Twenty chapters after "Cora-san", more description is finally revealed. Law describes Cora as someone that he loved who was murdered by Doflamingo (explaining his motive for revenge), drops the codename "Corazon" (the same word that has been emblazoned on his jacket all this time), and divulges that Cora was a member of the Donquixote Family. Not only that, but he was even Doflamingo's younger brother!
♡
Chapter 752 - "I was saved!!"
In this scene, Law emphatically defends himself as Doflamingo insults his character. This is one of the first mentions of Law being "saved" by Corazon (after Law telling Luffy that Corazon "gave him his life"), as well as the first utterance of Corazon's name by Doflamingo.
♡
Chapter 760 - Doflamingo's memory
At the end of chapter 760, shortly before Law's backstory chapters begin, Doflamingo monologues about his early hardships. During this brief insight into his past, a panel that depicts the day of his mother's death is shown. On the bed, the silhouette of a small boy can be seen mourning. While not his true first appearance, it's the first official glimpse of Corazon!
♡
Chapter 761 - "The reason I'm alive"
A couple of panels before the backstory chapters begin, Law makes one more mention of his savior, stating that the reason he is alive now is because of Cora-san.
♡
Chapter 761 - Corazon's entrance (and what an entrance it was!)
And there you have it! I believe I found all the early references and mentions of Corazon in the manga, but if I missed anything, please let me know. Thank you for reading!! ♡♡♡
I always think it’s funny when I see people try to crossover One Piece with BNHA and Luffy is hanging out with the heroes.
Let me get this straight-
You think the literal outlaw from one of the most blatantly anti government series of all time is going to vibe with the fascism of BNHA?
HAHAHAHAHA! *Points and laughs*
Listen, I’m not saying Luffy would necessarily get along with the villains, but he would definitely be dine and dashing, and stretching everywhere, and when they try to cite him for illegal quirk use he’s going to punch them in the fucking face and run. The Heroes are basically the Marines, be real. His ADHD ass is not sitting around in a school making friends with naively overly idealistic indoctrinated teenagers. Also just the casual racism and enabling BNHA civilians engage in would piss him off.
Actually, Luffy actively makes friends with questionable people all the time. He makes friends with people that he beat up ten minutes ago. Do you know how many people have been killed or maimed by his crew just passively? They’re blowing regular navy guys out of the way like flies by the dozen without a care. Luffy doesn’t give a shit about authority or rules. He led the biggest mass prison break of all time- do you think he was thinking about all the crimes those guys would commit in the future and the people they could hurt? Fuck no. He’s not a hero, he says so himself- he doesn’t want to share the meat. He’s not selfless, he’s selfish and happens to fight like hell for people he likes because he’s kind like that.
All I’m saying is that if anything, if Luffy came across the League, he’d call them stupid to their face, pick up on the weird groomer ass vibes and beat the shit out of All For One, and then for half a corn chip he’d topple the Hero Commission as well because they’re corrupt as hell. Luffy is leveling this whole place down to the ground and forcing them all to reconcile because he doesn’t give a damn about what anyone wants and both sides suck. He would straight up slap half the entire cast of this series.
One Piece is the Antithesis of BNHA. The heroes better pray to god they’re the first to give him a Sandwich.
Okarun’s overall storyline is starting to sound like a metaphor for puberty.
The series starts with him being the outsider who no one interacted with. But then, he meets Momo Ayase for the first time and he starts feeling something he’s never felt before; attraction. It is then he loses his balls to a grandma demon (metaphor for emasculation/feeling inadequate). Thus, the first half of the series is about the group trying to find his balls (become more of a man so he can feel that he earned Momo’s affections).
After finding his balls, Okarun suddenly realizes he’s gained all this physical strength and agility from the way he was training before. Also, everyone starts thinking he’s cool and attractive now (growth spurt). However, even though he got his balls back, it came at the cost of losing whatever power he had when his balls were missing (not sure what this could be a metaphor for so I’m going with the general “life before you hit puberty”).
(EDIT: Wait, I got it! It’s a metaphor for losing his insecurities since he would get all depressed and critical while in Turbo Granny mode)
That’s when Okarun is given a new “power” called the Ogre Club (his dick). In order to use it, he has to learn how to “channel his ki” into the club. If he loses ki/concentration, the club “grows limp”. As of the latest chapter, Okarun learns that the ogre club can grow “very large” if Momo Ayase channels her ki into it.
Let me say that again. Okarun can achieve an average size of the ogre club on his own. But with Momo’s “help”, Okarun’s ogre club grows to its maximum size.
So at this rate, the next step in Okarun’s character arc is going to be some kind of metaphor for sex. Like he and Momo learn how to do a “fusion spirit attack” that drains the both of them. And you know what, that’s probably going to be the case since look at how the previous chapter ended:
smth i wish more ppl would include when talking abt geto’s envy towards gojo is that he literally felt like he was being left behind by his best friend, and not just the fact that geto felt like gojo could accomplish things that he could not as the “strongest”.
not only that, but isolation from others was one of geto’s biggest contributions to his spiral/downfall. isolation from all of his friends, but gojo especially. and as gojo grew to be “the strongest” individually rather than alongside geto, geto lost that pillar; and then, naturally, every other pillar had to come falling down, too.
So, I have this habit of collecting every single panel of my favorite manga characters. Mostly for research purposes, since my favs get the most written about. The most recent subject to this was Donquixote Rosinante, my beloved
And I noticed something very interesting, another piece of proof that Oda (for all his many, many flaws) knows what he's doing.
This panel from chapter 762– isn't all that special on it's own. A small reaction shot just after Law stabs him.
Sure, the expression work here is perfect, that mix of anger and panic, it's beautifully done. Yet that's not what's important about this. What's important is actually every panel before this one.
Twelve panels. Twelve panels, and not once before this moment, do we ever see Corazón's fully unobscured face. Not once does his mask drop, until Law does something unexpected that could get him killed. Then– just for a moment, the facade shatters and we see Rosinante.
Afterwards, his face goes back to fully shadowed and hidden all the way up until he is forced to break his cover, once again because of Law. 13 panels of flashback (where his face is hidden by his bangs) inbetween.
Then, his face remains unobscured throughout the whole 6 month road trip– apart from a few crucial moments
The initial kidnapping, the first lie about not being a marine + hospital visit (only the first curiously), when he's planning the Minion island raid, when he can't keep hiding his injuries from Law, and when Doflamingo catches him.
Rosinante and Corazón are visually seperated by the creators playing with his character design, the intentional decision to give him a way to completely hide his expressions when needed while still keeping him open enough to be expressive when necessary
Oh Donquixote "Corazón" Rosinante, you neurodivergent disaster and absolute perfect character design you <3
