The newest bar they stepped into had music just as loud as the last one, but everyone in the bar seemed way less drunk than those in the last place. Once she noticed she could hear her own thoughts instead of obnoxious, drunken yelling, Dree nodded to her friend and they headed towards the bar.
"It's incredible that I can speak to you and not have to scream," Sarah laughed, grabbing Dree's hand as they wove through the throngs of people.
"Dude, right? Did you want another nasty beer or something with taste this time?" Dree laughed at the glare Sarah gave her as she scanned the bar for a place to step in. She spotted a wide open space on the far left where the bar curved and immediately took off, pulling Sarah behind her to get the spot before it was taken. Luckily, she reached the open space and saw not one, but two open stools.
"Nailed it!" She cheered, plopping down in her seat and instantly regretting leaning against the bar when her forearm got sticky. "So what'll it be?"
"I want the cute one in the blue at the end of the bar," Sarah sighed wistfully. "You should buy him a drink, he seems to be having trouble getting the bartender's attention."
Dree looked at the opposite end of the bar where there was, in fact, a really cute boy with dark hair and glasses in the button down shirt. "I admire your ability to pick out the one average looking cute person in a room full of fuckboys."
"I'm the best wingwoman and you know it." Sarah glanced at the other end of the bar again and shook her head. "I feel like he looks familiar, it's weird. Come on, work your boobs and get us some drinks!"
Glaring at her friend, Dree readjusted her shirt and leaned forward to wave over a bartender, managing to get the attention of one fairly quickly. She grumbled a bit as Sarah snickered beside her, but smiled when the bartender got to them.
"What can I get for you ladies?" He asked, giving her a quick up-down glance. Sarah snored, and Dree grinned sweetly at him.
"Two Jack and cokes please, doubles," she answered, ordering something she knew her friend hated.
"And another beer for the cutie in the blue and glasses at the end," Sarah interjected. The guy nodded and gave Dree another look before setting off to make their drinks.
"Why would you do that?"
"You bought me Jack, asshole. That's why. Plus, what if he thinks you're cute? He might come talk to you."
"He will not, I hate you," Dree grumbled. "What if he thinks it's weird a girl bought him a drink?"
"Guys don't get nice things like that, and the bartenders are practically ignoring him. He'll like it."
Their bartender came back with their drinks and Dree paid him, then watched as he got out the beer for the cute guy. The guy's face looked please that he finally got someone's attention, but quickly changed to confusion when a bottle was immediately placed before him. Dree saw him say something, then watched the bartender motioned in their direction with his thumb. When he looked over, she raised her drink, and he did the same with a small smile before taking a drink and disappearing into the crowd.
"Congrats, you bought a drink for Cole Gallian," Sarah laughed, patting her on the back.
"What?"
"Cole. Roosterteeth. Sportsball. He turned and I could see his face better, it was totally him," Sarah insisted.
"Christ, stop, you're ruining my life. We have an hour to find cuties for a New Years kiss and I won't let you get my hopes up like this." She grinned and poked her friend in the shoulder to show she was joking before turning and looking at the other people in the bar. The girls enjoyed a round of people watching, making comments about the stranger people they saw, until they were approached by two guys.
"Hey, I uh... I wanted to say thank you for the drink." The cute boy in the blue from the other side of the bar smiled sweetly.
"No problem, you looked like you were having some trouble there," Dree answered.
"Yeah... when all the bartenders are dudes they tend to be more interested in the beautiful women." He ducked his head slightly, a soft blush settling on his cheeks before he looked up again and held his hand out. "Hi, I'm Cole."
"I fucking knew it!" Sarah punched the air victoriously as the other three stared. "Sorry, I'm a fan and I fucking told her it was you but someone refused to believe me," she explained, giving Dree a pointed look. "I'm Sarah, she's Andrea."
"Did you see me on On The Spot or do you watch the live streams?" Cole asked.
"Sportsball," she shrugged, then took a sip of the drink and grimaced, making Dree exceptionally proud of her choice in drinks.
"No shit. Well, let me introduce you to my friend Tyler." Cole gestured to the guy besie him and she went wide-eyed, trying and failing not to smile.
"Now you've done it. She's freaking out on the inside now," Dree joked.
"She hides it well," Cole remarked, stepping closer to Dree. So what brought you guys to this place tonight?"
"We were having a good time people watching elsewhere, but then we suddenly aged thirty years and needed to get away from the obnoxious drunks for a few."
"Maybe you're just too sober," he teased.
"Maybe you're right."
"Shots?" He asked, giving her a wide, cheesy grin.
"Do you need me to order them for you?"
Cole frowned and nudged her shoulder with his, then took his wallet out and slapped a couple bills in front of her. "Yeah, probably."

After the shots and another drink Dree tried to excuse herself to step out for some air, but Cole put a hand over hers to stop her.
"Mind if I come? It's close to midnight, everyone outside is going to be loud and wasted, might be bad to be alone," he reasoned. Everything he'd said in the past half hour was so considerate and genuine that Dree was about to pull her hair out because she still couldn't tell if he liked her or not.
"Yeah, sure. You're probably right." They dismissed themselves from their friends and stepped into the cool air, and Dree took a deep breath. "For a minute I forgot the world isn't always ten thousand degrees."
"I know, right? It's super nice out." Someone down the street yelled, and their friends joined in for a couple moments. "It's also quite loud still."
"Big surprise."
Dree leaned up against hte building, arms crossed over her chest, but it felt weird in the situation so she let them fall to her sides. Which also felt awkward. "Now I know why Sarah smokes; I don't even know what to do with my hands out here."
Cole laughed, shaking his head. "Not a good enough reason to start smoking, I think."
"I feel like Gavin," she complained, waving her hands in front of her. "Wot if your hands didn't always feel awkward?"
"Not a bad impression, really," he grinned. "So, uh-"
From what seemed like every building on the street, people started the countdown to the new year.
"Hey, we made it to 2016, what do you know?" She commented, the pressure of the countdown and being alone with a boy getting to her. Dree wasn't entirely certain where to look or what to do, so she settled on watching a group of people down the street. When they got to 30 seconds left she left a hand on her arm and looked up to see Cole standing befor eher.
"This um... this might seem forward but, uh..."
"Yeah, you can," she answered softly, smiling up at him. He returned the look, trailing the hand on her arm down until he could intertwine their fingers, his other hand coming up to brush his knuckles against her cheek. Dree let her free hand rest on his hip as he leaned forward to rest his forehead against hers. When the echoing count got into the single digits he squeezed her hand gently and cupped her cheek, though he waited until people started shouting about the new year before moving forward the last inch to press his lips to hers.
She wasn't sure what to expect, but it wasn't the careful way he tilted her face, or the slow press of his lips before moving back a moment and then going back in for more. Cole was a complete gentleman until she gripped his hip a little tight, which he answered by dropping her hand to grasp the back of her neck. He turned her face up more towards him, then pulled her lower lip lightly with his teeth, causing her to groan lowly.
They paused for a moment for a breath, and she glanced up to see him smiling slightly, lower lip between his teeth and looking slightly flushed. Dree wasn't really sure what to say, but she didn't have to figure it out because he leaned in and kissed her again, harder this time. Her hands grasped his shirt as he grabbed her hips and pulled her closer, his mouth moving with more intent now and leaving her nearly breathless. He broke away to brush kisses over her jaw and down her neck, then pressed his face to the curve of her neck and laughed lightly.
"Fuck, you just..." he trailed off and pressed another kiss to her neck, then huffed out another laugh. "Happy fucking New Year to me."
"I totally agree," Dree sighed, leaning her head back against the building.
Cole trailed his fingers over her sides gently, pressing a few more kisses to her jaw before finally stepping back. "I guess we should find our friends now?"
"I guess we should," she repeated, though her hands were still on his shirt, so she gave it a slight tug, causing a bright grin to cross his face.
"Or it can wait," he mumbled, grabbing her hips once again and going in for another kiss.
