Today we welcomed the choir of ‘Den Olm’, a Flemish residential care centre. “It’s no evidence to get these elderly people on a bus together, so you can imagine it’s quite a challenge to get them to take a plane.” But today, our residents really broke some boundaries by actually setting foot on an aircraft together. Brussels Airlines flew them to Rome. And how cool is this: they’re not in Rome to  relax or meet up with family. They’re actually going to meet the pope and give a concert at the Belgian Embassy in Vatican City! We wish them a great flight and a wonderful trip!

Meet our passengers of the day, the Goldsmith Stables Mini Horseball team! Horseball is a sport that combines rugby, basketball and of course horseback riding. The team flew off to Ponte de Lima in Portugal with Brussels Airlines to attend the European Championship. The Mini Horseball team is currently the only official team in Belgium to practise the sport with the help of their Shetland ponies. 12 players (the youngest of which is only 6 years old) will participate in a few demo competitions. We wish Enora, Ella, Aline, Lotte, Aïsha and Vince a great trip and lots of fun!

Where are you heading off to? “We don’t know yet.” So what are you going to visit then? “We don’t know yet.” But which airline will fly you to your destination? “We don’t know yet.” [Giggling] … Meet our passengers of the day, lovebirds Evelyne & Aaron. They booked a trip to an unknow destination! Their holiday full of surprises started this morning in our departures hall. Just before take-off they found out they’ll spend their five-day holiday in Stockholm, where they will also celebrate Evelyne’s 25th birthday. Hip Hip Hooray! We’re quite sure the two of them will be amazed by the beauty of Sweden’s capital. Brussels Airport wishes them an unforgettable trip!

Say hi to Georgie & Sofie, our passengers of the day! These 2 Belgian ladies are friends since high school and for their 40th birthday they went to India. The friends have just returned from their 10-day trip visiting Mumbai, Panaji, a spice farm, some temples, the Dudhsagar waterfalls and Agonda beach. 

“We saw the most amazing sunset ever at Cola beach! We were so lucky spending a wonderful holiday together to celebrate our turning 20 for the 2nd time and we would leave again right now if we could!”. Happy birthday from all of us at Brussels Airport, Georgie & Sofie!

Two weeks ago we crossed paths with Dominique, a social and religious worker. We met her in the departure hall just before she left for Florence. Swiss flew Dominique and her colleague to Italy for a training. It’s not the first time the girls were flying to the Tuscan city best known for the Uffizi Gallery and Michelangelo’s David. They always enjoy their stay very much: “I like strolling around Florence, because there’s always something happening”, said Dominique. We hope she and her colleague had a pleasant trip and a successful training!

Say hi to Sara: a young, energetic and super enthusiastic girl who lives in Ghent, Belgium. Yesterday she packed her bag for a one-week trip - a little bit anxious - but totally ready for her first solo travel! Ryanair is flying her to Dublin, Ireland - “My main goal is meeting new people from other countries, so I’ll certainly stop at some cosy pubs. But I can’t leave Dublin without visiting the National Museum, strolling along the Cliffs of Moher and stopping by Jameson’s Distillery & the Guinness Storehouse. Doing this trip on my own is a big step for me, so I hope it’ll be an unforgettable experience that will lead to some beautiful memories and amazing friendships. Or if you want to think ‘Disney style’: maybe I’ll meet the love of my life?” :)

Today we welcomed this wonderful family from Turnhout (Antwerp). Els, André, Karlien and Sander went on a one-week trip to Jamaica. Not to relax or to discover the country, but to pick up Neisha, Sander’s wife! They met a few years back while Sander was on a holiday in Jamaica and got married 10 months ago. After almost a year of skyping and travelling back and forth, yesterday was the big day! Neisha packed her bags, waved off her home country, boarded a TUI Fly plane and came to Belgium with her husband. As from today they are starting their life together. Welcome (back) to Belgium!

Yesterday we waved off Silke, a master’s student in Clinical Psychology at the University of Leuven. For the coming five months, she’ll swap her dorm room in Belgium for a new one in Spain. Looking forward to meeting new people and enjoying southern temperatures, she boarded a Brussels Airlines plane to Seville. To complete her outfit for this exciting journey, she bought herself a pair of fancy new sunglasses at the Brussels Airport SummerTime shop, just before take-off. Let’s say, she’s totally ready for a great adventure! Silke, we wish you an amazing Erasmus experience, good luck!
