↳ A CLOSER LOOK:
Sam is a laid back, easy going guy that will do absolutely anything for his friends and family. He is passionate and loyal. Being that he was diagnosed with dyslexia at the ripe age of eleven, he always worked harder than was expected of him because he didn’t want his dyslexia to be a hindrance.
Sam knew at an early age not to ask his parents for anything that he may want. He knew about their financial situation and knew that having five kids, his parents had to stretch every penny they had. He also knew that since he was the oldest, he was expected to set the example. Sam didn’t mind because he never wanted to see the look on his parent’s face when they knew we wanted something, but they couldn’t afford to buy it. Sam just learned to smile and make do with what he had.
Throughout school, Sam’s family’s financials weren’t his main concern. He was barely passing his classes and even though the school guidance counselor figured out that Sam was dyslexic, he still had a hard time concentrating and figuring things out. Luckily for Sam, he had a friend who had no problems helping him and tutoring him. His grades started improving and he became eligible to play football.
Football and Comics were two hobbies that kept Sam’s mind at ease, and off his family’s trouble. He liked being on the football team because of the popularity that came with it. When he was on the team, he felt like he was on top of the world. He got respect, and felt like he belonged. People didn’t question him about his dyslexia, or anything else. They just cared that he could throw a ball, and to Sam, that was all that mattered. He loved getting lost In the comic books and just let his imagination run wild.
Thanks to his friend tutoring him, Sam could qualify for College. He decided to go to College near home because he knew that any college that was away would be too expensive. At least staying at home, he would be able to work, and go to school. He didn’t know what to major in, so he just did a basic liberal arts major. Sam worked at the comic book store to try and help pay for college, but when that didn’t pay enough, Sam turned to other forms of job opportunities. He began stripping. It wasn’t ideal, but the pay was decent and the club was discreet. He danced under the alias ‘White Chocolate’ and to this day, no one knows about his stripping, and he wants to keep it that way.
Sam graduated College with good grades and joined the Police Force. Sam always was obsessed with super heroes, but he also always thought that Police Officers were the real super heroes. While everyone was running away from danger, they were running toward it. He always thought they were brave, and he figured if he couldn’t be Spiderman, or Captain America, why not be a Police Officer? And that was a decision he never regretted.
Sam thrived as a Police Officer, although he lived in a small town. He didn’t see nearly as much action as the cop shows on tv did, but he stilled loved his job. He loved the smiles he got, and how people just look so relieved and content when a cop was around. Like they felt safe. Those little moments made everything worth it. After about 5 years on the Police Force, Sam got promoted to Detective, and he couldn’t be happier. He had a stable job, steady income, and he just moved into his own place, after staying with his parents for all those years. Now if only his secret stays a secret until the day he dies, he has nothing to worry about.
