This world...
i don’t know why we keep trying to better ourselves. I understand that sometimes there has to be some rain clouds. I understand that the world can’t be sunshine and smiling people every day, but there comes a point when the world is too much to try anymore. Why does this always happen to us? Every time we finally feel financially stable and “normal”; every time we have most things somewhat figured out, someone else fucks it up for us. The corporate world does not care if you need to pay for rent or a car loan or two, or food for your family. The U.S. government is set up in such a way that people who are not trying to better them selves; the unemployed or merely lazy couch potatoes, receive enough state assistance to support their families, while the working-middle class struggle to pay for a roof over their heads even with a full-time job. Now that my husband and I both work full-time, we make less money than we did part-time because of taxes and the cost of health insurance, yet we are ineligible for any assistance such as daycare vouchers or food stamps because we make “too much”. And now we are about to lose everything, because we no longer make enough to pay the aunt that watches our son while we are at work, because the cost of a family plan (health insurance) from our work is almost half our monthly rent; the aunt who hasn’t worked in several years and who receives food stamps, a discounted rate for her apartment thanks to the state, a monthly income from the state, and free healthcare. She is angry with us because we have nothing to give her for a few weeks, and she is struggling financially, even though she can still spend about 60$ (I know this because she has told me) on cigarettes a week! I’m not sure what to do at this point. Sadly I feel the only option anyone wants us to choose is to return to part-time work and apply for state assistance, because clearly, that is how our world is supposed to work.
