(some basic info/yapping below▾)

Outagetale takes place after a neutral ending; one where Asgore, Flowey, Mettaton, Alphys, and Papyrus are dead. Undyne overtakes the throne and exiles Toriel to the Ruins, and Sans becomes her roommate (this is pretty much the in-game ending).

But with Alphys gone, a new royal scientist has to be quickly hired. ...Due to their lack of experience and training, the Core basically malfuntions. The magical electricity goes out, and everything goes dark (tho the Underground was already pretty dark). No lights, and decreasing heat. Now the monsters of the Underground have to rely on their own magic, or adapt, or they'll freeze in the dark.

Yeah sure! Outagetale is basically just an epilogue of one of the neutral endings of Undertale (I'm pretty sure it's one of the "Exiled Queen" endings). Asgore, Flowey, Mettaton, Alphys, and Papyrus are dead. Undyne is the ruler, Toriel is exiled, and Sans becomes Toriel's roommate. The au takes place ~10 years later.

Here, the Underground is colder and darker, with the magical electricity that monsters relied on gone due to a malfunction in the Core. The monsters have either adapted physically, or switched to using their own magic (Toriel's fire magic is reallyyy coming in clutch).

The Ruins are snowy. Snowdin feels less homely without its lanterns and christmas lights. The Waterfall area is practically too cold to live in, and the Hotlands are more or less unchanged, tho without any fans & ACs living there is pretty gruelling.

That's pretty much it! I didn't make this to have a main story or plot, it's mostly just centred around the characters and how I think they'd act in this au :)
