Outlander 31 Day Challenge: Day 8
Welcome to the Outlander 31 Day Challenge!
Today is Day 8: Scene that made you cry the most
This look on Jamie's face in 05x12 "Never My Love". When he finds Claire.
Why does it break me? Because he's promised Claire since the moment they met that he would protect her, and keep her safe ("and if necessary, the protection of my body as well). A vow he takes more seriously than any other.
Here he has failed her. It shatters him to the core.

Outlander 31 Day Challenge: Day 6
Welcome to the Outlander 31 Day Challenge!
Today is Day 6: Favorite setting/location
This may be an odd choice...but I'll pick the modern home from Claire's dissociative dreams in 05x12 "Never My Love."
Why? That whole sequence was so unexpected and unique. So many small scenes set there were so true to the series and characters - Easter eggs for fans, if you will.
Such as - how a picture of the house is in the title card for 05x05 "Perpetual Adoration":
Such as - Jamie clearly taking care of all the Thanksgiving cooking (a jab at Claire's poor cooking skills):
Such as - a framed photo of Lallybroch on the TV:
Germain playing with a toy dragonfly:
Claire taking an orange:
...just to name a few.
It's really hard to think of what Claire was obviously going through when she created this space in her mind to go. But I just find it really, really interesting. And a very bold narrative choice for the production.
On the day he married Claire, Jamie pledged to protect her with everything he had. To always keep her safe.
In her darkest hour, Claire dreams of being safe in Jamie's arms.
After he finds her, she struggles to even touch him. For she does not yet feel safe - not just with him, but within herself. Jamie for his part is patient, for he understands more than anyone how difficult it is to find oneself in the aftermath of trauma, when nowhere feels safe.
Yet he keeps loving her and standing by her. So that by the end of the episode - she willingly touches him. She feels so safe and cherished. And Jamie is so very, very glad of it - and quietly shares in her triumph.
When Jamie rescues Claire after her ordeal, he wraps her in his plaid and lifts her into his arms.
As Murtagh once wrapped Jamie in his plaid, and lifted him into his arms, rescuing him from his ordeal at Wentworth Prison.
That last scene is the most beautiful we have ever seen in 5 seasons and 67 episodes of Outlander.
Jamie and Claire's essence, in 1 shot.
How do you feel? // Safe.
Anyone else totally not surprised that Dream!Jamie in 05x12 was clearly doing all of the Thanksgiving cooking - judging by the kitchen towel draped over his shoulder? 😎
