Claire's vase - the actual vase - from Season 1 (which also made a cameo in Claire's modern house dream sequence in the Season 5 finale) WAS ON THE TABLE BEHIND DIANA GABALDON IN THE POSTCREDITS SCENE
Kudos to the makeup department who for 8 seasons across 12 years ensured that Jamie had the bullet scar in his right shoulder...a memory of the day he met Claire...
I think this was the first scene I ever saw from the Outlander series - if memory serves, it was released ahead of the premiere episode which aired in August 2014.
I've written before that I was open-minded yet skeptical that the series would work. Being a longtime fan of the Books, I doubted that they could ever be adapted in the right way.
This scene helped assuage my doubts. And once I watched the entire first episode, those doubts were gone.
Watching this small scene now...it's still there. Because Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan so wonderfully captured who Jamie and Claire are as people - and as a unit. Watching this now, with the knowledge of what later transpired for the characters and the actors...that spark, that magic, it's still there. And this scene is every bit as heart-pounding now as it was when I first saw it 10 years ago.
Outlander 31 Day Challenge: Day 30
Welcome to the Outlander 31 Day Challenge!
Today is Day 30: Most memorable moment
The scene where Jamie falls in love with Claire, in 01x01 "Sassenach."
This is something we hear Jamie talk about, mid-way into Book 1. He tells Claire that he fell in love with her when he woke up from falling off the horse, and she was cursing at him.
I've written about how I was skeptical that the Outlander series would be a worthy adaptation...I'd been reading the Books for about 10 years at that point, and I wasn't sure how it would be.
But seeing Sam Heughan absolutely *nail it* in this scene - seeing Jamie fall in love with Claire - he became Jamie in that moment. Definitely the most memorable for me.
Outlander 31 Day Challenge: Day 13
Welcome to the Outlander 31 Day Challenge!
Today is Day 13: Favorite scene where the Gaelic language was spoken
Aside from the conversation between Jamie and Murtagh in 01x16 "To Ransom A Man's Soul"...
I'll have to pick the very first scene we see and hear it spoken. In the cottage, where Murtagh brings Claire after finding her, in 01x01 "Sassenach".
I love how no subtitles were provided. We the audience feel as much out of place as Claire does. Alone with these strange, hairy, stinky men who may or may not want to rape her. Speaking a weird language deliberately to exclude her.
Hearing the Gaelic so suddenly immediately immersed me in the world of Outlander.
01x01 parallels
Did anyone else observe this parallel in 05x11 “Journeycake” - when the Browns attack the Ridge and take Claire, she’s teaching Marsali how to put someone’s shoulder back into joint.
Just like she did with Jamie, the moment she met him.
I don’t know whether to laugh or to cry.
Good evening, In episode 101 Claire and Frank investigate the castle. When they open the door and descend the staircase, Claire hesitates with a strange look. Do you know what that look meant was it from the book?
Hi anon,
To be honest, I’d never noticed that!
Either it’s unintentional on Caitriona Balfe’s part - or, somehow it’s Claire remembering the past she has yet to live...
