Send 💗 to let Pietro check your pulse
Pietro was, by no means or standards, anywhere close to a practicing physician. He knew enough general information about the major systems and first aid to get by, but this was something he hadn’t ever dealt with before.
Peter had flown out into the expanse of space almost, almost quicker than Pietro could track - and though he knew even less of space than he did medicine, he knew enough to panic when he realized that Peter hadn’t been wearing his mask when he was sucked out.
Within seconds, his friends jumped into action in a mad dash to get him back. Pietro was useless in this scenario, because he couldn’t very well go running into a pressurized, freezing vacuum without getting himself killed in the process. This scary space part? He’d leave that to Peter’s friends - even if they were moving far too goddamn slow for Pietro’s liking.
What felt like hours later (in reality, perhaps a minute and a half at most), Drax had Peter cradled in his arms bridal style and came rushing in to look for assistance.
Taking one look around the lot of them, Pietro let out a shaky breath and stepped forward. “Watch out, let me see what I can do.” He was startled by the tremble to his own voice, not having realized until this very moment just how panicked he actually felt. Peter was a friend - albeit a new one, perhaps not as close as others, but a friend nonetheless. The thought that maybe nothing could be done to save him weighed heavy on Pietro’s mind, but he had no time to entertain such ludicrous ideals.
As soon as Peter was laid out on the floor in front of him, Pietro immediately reached forward and pressed his fingers into the man’s neck just beneath his jaw.
He could feel pairs of eyes on him as he waited impatiently for a sign of life - and their impatience was palpable as well. They were far greater friends of Peter, no doubt even more panicked about his state than even Pietro. As they should be.
Upon closer inspection, Pietro could see that Peter was a deathly shade of pale. Frost and ice crystals were prevalent across his face and neck, and he was far too cool to the touch. It took almost fifteen seconds for a single heartbeat to become palpable beneath Pietro’s fingers, but a quick, weak stream of pulsations soon followed suit and shocking as it was, Pietro let out an anticipatory breath.
So Peter’s heart was beating, but that didn’t guarantee a single thing, especially with his body temperature as low as it was.
“He has a very weak heartbeat, and he is just barely breathing.” he informed the others, trying to think as quickly as possible. Hypothermia…the most important thing was getting them warm before it worsened. Pietro stole a glance down at Peter, then back up at his friends, and back down once more.
And then he shrugged himself out of his shirt without a second to waste. “Strip him. I have a higher body temperature than most, I can warm him up. Someone else get blankets or heaters - whatever you have.”
Drax was quick to kneel down and peel Peter out of most of his clothes, leaving - for the sake of modesty - a very colorful pair of boxers and nothing more. Pietro stripped down in kind, reaching out and pulling Peter’s body in as close to him as physically possible. He whimpered at first, the frigidity of Peter’s skin uncomfortable against his own, but he fought the urge to pull away and began rubbing Peter’s back and arms to create some friction heat as well.
Only moments later, Gamora and Mantis came back with two blankets and began wrapping them around as tightly as possible. “Thank you.”
It would be a waiting game, now. With their chests pressed so closely together, Pietro could feel the shallow movements that coincided with Peter’s wispy breathing. He could also just barely detect the weakened heartbeat as well - but it was enough for him to keep a good handle on vitals until they strengthened enough to sustain Peter’s life.
“That’s it. Stay with us, Peter. What a stupid way to die, this would be. No?”
