Watching We Need To Talk About Kevin for the first time. And I just...imagine that it’s kinda what it was like for Han and Leia to raise Ben.
Have A Story No One Asked For.
So, I’m from Oklahoma and I was thinking about things named after Oklahoma. The first thing that came ot mind was the Battleship from WWII that was sunk at Pearl Harbor. Okay. There are two other Navel ships named after Oklahoma. But first a little story.
USS Oklahoma (BB-37) was a Nevada-class battleship that served in WWII and was sunk at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. 429 people died aboard. Firstly let me tell ya that I’m pretty upset that they didn’t let those people rest and instead of letting her rest at the bottom Battleship Row or recommissioned her for battle they brought her back up and stripped her and started taking her to California for scrap. That just makes me mad. Anyways on the way there she was sunk { again } in a storm.
So after that in late 1944 they commissioned USS Oklahoma City (CL-91/CLG-5/CG-5). One of twenty seven US Navy Cleveland-class light cruisers and one of six that were made into guided missile cruisers. She served in many battles and during war until she was sunk during a training exercise in March of 1999. A training exercise...That’s just terrible.
Now lastly there is the USS Oklahoma City (SSN-723), a Los Angeles-class submarine commissioned on 9 July 1988. Currently she is serving in Guam. This sub is pretty badass and has done it’s thing over and over again. However, I can’t help but worry because the other two ships named for my state have been sunk three times between the two of them. Soooo. You know that doesn’t seem good.
I can’t help but think that this bit of bad luck for Oklahoma Naval ships is because WE HAVE NO OCEANS AROUND US. WE ARE LAND LOCKED. WHY IS THE NAVY NAMING SHIT AFTER US IF WE’RE LAND LOCKED?! I will never know.
