HEADCANON -- AETHER
[ Spoilers for Genshin Impact including the Mondstadt and Liyue chapters! ]
As a boy of many names himself, he takes interest in those that have many other names as well. He’ll usually stick to the first name he learned to regard someone but may change what he calls someone for a myriad of reasons.
Childe - He’ll always know him by this name and call him this in public as revealing his other identities may cause conflict. It’s also particularly fitting for him given his child-like playful behavior with him.
Zhongli - Publicly, Aether calls him Zhongli, his normal human identity. He’ll never call him Rex Lapis as it’s a mouthful and while “Geo King” may be a fitting title, it’s no longer how Zhongli identifies himself. When he’s given the chance and Aether and Zhongli are a secure, private place, he will call him Morax. Though it is outdated much like Rex Lapis, there’s a light irony in calling a man with no mora a name that represents and is the root of the word itself. Aether will also only call him Morax in serious conversation as well.
Venti - The playful Anemo Archon initially introduced himself as Venti, meaning wind, and Aether couldn’t think of something more fitting and free as the man himself. Calling him Barbatos sounds much too formal for the god of freedom, though he may use it similarly to Morax, in private, serious conversation.
