Project Daily Verse of Light
Okay, so one thing, that often bothers me in RPs is, when muses, who based on their lore should have grown up knowing the Chant of Light, just don't know two bits about it.
And I'm not just talking about clerics and templars. The vast majority of Thedas population, especially the humans and to a great deal the city elfs too, are devoted Andrastians. Or at least grew up in a social surrounding that expected a certain level of religious devotion from them.
Many Dalish RP muses know every bit and scrap about the Dalish gods and therefore are probably even more knowledgeable, than their lore should allow them to be. (Remember: The Dalish culture lives from tales told by the fire. There is no collective source of knowledge in this culture, much unlike Andastrian cultures.) But any muse, I played with, that's supposedly grown up as an Andrastian, doesn't even know the basics about their religion, even though they pretty much it told from every corner of their neighborhood since an early age on.
Now I know the Chant is really a boring piece to read, if you're not really interested in it. So I cannot really blame folks for not reading it in one go, just for research purposes. But, I know that in some Christian cultures, especially among the common folks it used to be common practice to do a sort of daily divination with the Bible. Of course that's not really a practice approved by the church, but neither are horoscopes, so eh! XD
How does that divination work, and what does that have to do with my previous point? Well the practice, I know of, is to simply open the bible at a random page each morning, blindly put a finger on the page and read the verse, the finger points on. This verse then functions as a sort of oracle wisdom for the day.
Now in an attempt to spread some knowledge on the Chant within the RP community in a fun way, I decided to revive my old project of the "Daily Verse of Light". Which is basically the same as this divination practice. Only, I do it with a fun little twist.
Each day, I will post a random verse from the Chant, but not only as text, I will post it as an audio-post, where I read out the verse aloud. I will of course put the text into the audio-post as well, along with a footnote from which canticle the verse is. This can both be seen as a fun sort of daily divination and will make you all more familiar with the Chant.
I will post these verses on an extra blog of course, you can follow it under chant-of-light . So you don't need to follow my Sebastian-blog for that.
If you like my idea, feel free to reblog this post in order to Signal Boost it in the DARP community.
Thank you all for your attention.
