1. Why did you start writing fan fiction? Was Far Cry 5 the first fandom you wrote for?

I first started writing fic because I was already writing original stories and well, canon can be real disappointing. So it was me, age 12, writing things the way I wanted to see them 😤 And I would love to say those were private and only for me, but NAH. Those are all out there, somewhere, because I can’t remember my login info to delete them. (Which means that no, FC5 was not my first fandom. Or even my tenth.)

2. Why Far Cry 5? What led you to it? The game, the universe, some particular character...

What led me to FC5 was that I saw that loading screen of Joseph— the shirtless one— and I thought “I want to know more about THAT GUY” so... I mean other things kept me around, but...yeah.

3. Of everything you have written so far, which one is your favorite?

This is kinda boring, but my favorite thing I’ve written is a multi-chapter John/Dep soulmate AU that I couldn’t finish. It was just beyond my reach at the time and well 😩😔 Other than that, probably Just Take it Slow, which is effectively the prequel to that unfinished fic. Or maybe this threesome fic because the smut was a lot of fun to write. Idk, it’s hard to decide.

4. Any tips for those who are starting - or considering starting - to write fan fiction?

Write badly, edit later. Honestly, you’re never going to write your best thing until you’ve written your worst thing. If you have an idea that you’re having trouble getting out, then make it bad. Emojis for narrative description? Entire dialogue that just looks like: [Character says something CLEVER]? That’s fine! Spelling and grammar and punctuation can rot if they’re holding you back from getting the idea out. Write badly, and then when you have the first draft finished, go back and fix everything. Or don’t! You do you.

Thank you so much for the ask, and sorry about the wait as well! I always think too much before answering, so I might’ve rambled a little more than I should’ve.

5: do you write scenes in a linear fashion or do you write future scenes/dialogues sometimes? 

Future scenes/dialogues all the way! I don’t think anything would get written on my end if I started from the beginning and went from there. D:

Usually each fic starts with a scene that I really want to get down on paper, and after taking a stab at it, I will try and build the rest of the fic up around it. Longer fics are always a challenge, but lately, I’m thinking to better tackle those I’ll have to write the majority of it first to better

6: hardest/easiest character to write for? 

For FC5 currently, hardest - Adelaide! I spent way too long trying to see if I could nail how she speaks and phrases things, and it was a serious struggle. I think her fic would’ve been done in half the time if I hadn’t had to deal with a massive block during it.

Easiest? Sharky. Figuring him out was tough at first too, but once it clicked, it’s been too much fun to write him since. And if anything, it’s almost too easy to slip into what’s going on in his head at times.

24: do you outline? 

Sort of. It’s more starting with a few key lines of dialogue, and then once that’s down on paper I add the finer details and let it grow from there. And harder scenes definitely get a summary that’s expanded on until something pops out. Longer fics definitely get more of an official outline, though, but that’s free to change in a variety of ways until the actual arc of it’s pinned down.

...And I’m easing back into that slowly (and I still want to dig into the longer idea I have in mind for Hana’s next major fic), but let’s just say that the last one was certainly not planned to be one by any means of the word, and an outline quickly became a necessity.

26: anything you’re planning to write in your fic that you’re worried readers might like? 

I think this might be looking at this more as something that might not be liked? Because if readers love anything, I’ll definitely not be worrying too much about it.

…Well, I’m going to tackle more of John’s POV, and wasn’t sure if it worked right the last time I did, so hopefully that won’t be a massive mistake to try again.

34: a scene/paragraph you wrote that you’re proud of

Uh oh. Picking one’s always tough, and I feel like I could waffle on this all day. But while I absolutely love the part that takes place immediately before this part here in You won’t be the one, I also love the reveal of what Sharky and Hurk have been doing while Hana’s been jabbing at John.

There was a hissing intake of breath, and she imagined his teeth were clenched. “How many times do you think I’ll let you reject this? My brother asks for mercy, and that I will grant you, but my generosity has a limit, one that you’re rapidly reaching.”

“And you need to understand that we don’t need saving,” she shot, her grip on her radio tight. “Saving from you, absolutely, but from guilt, sin, and any and all of the above? I think we’ll manage. And you can shove any and all current and future offers to dodge damnation right up your own ass.”

A loud whistle caught her attention, and Hana turned towards it. She could just see Sharky waving her down in the distance, and all it took was one look at the billboard for all of the anger to drain right out of her.

“Oh my God." The peal of laughter that left her actually went through over the radio due to her thumb holding the call button down. “Gotta go,” she said, wishing just for a second that John could see the shit-eating grin gracing her face. “Hope you like what I’ve done with the sign. You know, the one you see right when you head west from the Henbane?”

“…Deputy.” His tone was downright venomous. “What have you done?”

She looked at the job that Sharky and Hurk were finishing up with his sign, the white spray-painted dick very visible, and sizable next to his smiling face. “You’ll love it. Trust me on that.”
