1. Why did you start writing fanfiction? Was Far Cry 5 the first fandom you wrote for? 

My first fanfiction that I actually got into and posted was actually for Naruto haha, and I started that because I really loved the heroine and just wanted to explore her character through writing.

2. Why Far Cry 5? What led you to it? 

The game, the universe, some particular character...I loved the game and thought the idea of Far Cry 5's story was really interesting, but it didn't quite get to go as deep as I would've liked to have seen, so I really liked the idea of trying to explore these characters and this world through fanfiction.

3. Of everything you have written so far, which one is your favorite?

Hmm, I think maybe one of my pre-game AUs, like this one where the Deputy first meets John. I think pre-game stuff is just so fun to write because there's so much tension; it can be a perfectly innocent interaction happening, but because the audience knows what's REALLY going on and the Deputy DOESN'T, there's such a tense undertone there that's just really fun to play around with.

4. Any tips for those who are starting - or considering starting - to write fan fiction?

I really recommend reading your writing out loud, not just for finding little mistakes, but because it's really good for helping you figure out whether dialogue sounds organic, and it also just helps you figure out the flow of sentences. Something can be grammatically correct, but still read a little awkwardly, so I've found that reading out loud can really help me pick up on these things.

1. Why did you start writing fan fiction? Was Far Cry 5 the first fandom you wrote for?

I first started writing fic because I was already writing original stories and well, canon can be real disappointing. So it was me, age 12, writing things the way I wanted to see them 😤 And I would love to say those were private and only for me, but NAH. Those are all out there, somewhere, because I can’t remember my login info to delete them. (Which means that no, FC5 was not my first fandom. Or even my tenth.)

2. Why Far Cry 5? What led you to it? The game, the universe, some particular character...

What led me to FC5 was that I saw that loading screen of Joseph— the shirtless one— and I thought “I want to know more about THAT GUY” so... I mean other things kept me around, but...yeah.

3. Of everything you have written so far, which one is your favorite?

This is kinda boring, but my favorite thing I’ve written is a multi-chapter John/Dep soulmate AU that I couldn’t finish. It was just beyond my reach at the time and well 😩😔 Other than that, probably Just Take it Slow, which is effectively the prequel to that unfinished fic. Or maybe this threesome fic because the smut was a lot of fun to write. Idk, it’s hard to decide.

4. Any tips for those who are starting - or considering starting - to write fan fiction?

Write badly, edit later. Honestly, you’re never going to write your best thing until you’ve written your worst thing. If you have an idea that you’re having trouble getting out, then make it bad. Emojis for narrative description? Entire dialogue that just looks like: [Character says something CLEVER]? That’s fine! Spelling and grammar and punctuation can rot if they’re holding you back from getting the idea out. Write badly, and then when you have the first draft finished, go back and fix everything. Or don’t! You do you.

1. Why did you start writing fanfiction? Was Far Cry 5 the first fandom you wrote for?

I've always written short stories and whatnot but yes, FC5 was my first fandom. I randomly searched for Jacob fan fics one day, got hooked on reading them and then decided I wanted to try my hand at it as well! After two months of being too afraid, I finally posted my first fic "Red Wolf" on AO3. 

2. Why Far Cry 5? What led you to it? 

The game itself drew me in right away. I love dissecting characters (villans especially) and Far Cry has always had some of the best! Jacob's character spoke to me especially. I've always seen his humanity peek through the cracks and understood his motives - he just fascinates me. Perhaps I paint him in a softer light than most in my fics, but I enjoy showing that side of him. 

3. Of everything you have written so far, which one is your favorite?

My personal favorite is "On the Winds of Autumn". I wrote it for my dear friend who had the idea of one of the Whitetails falling for Jacob. I think that's when I first noticed my style becoming a bit more refined and detailed, so I'm proud of that one. But I guess if I had to recommend any, it would be "Led by Lust". Most people seem to like that one best. I suppose because it's a polyseed fic, maybe?

4. Any tips for those who are starting - or considering starting - to write fan fiction?

Yes, and I wish someone had sat me down early on and lectured me about this until it stuck. Don't write for anyone but yourself. If you want to use simple, plain language... do it. If you want to go against the grain and write something that you feel is silly... do it. Write because it makes you happy and never compare yourself to others because we're all different and tell beautiful stories in our own way.
