Colourism is SUCH a problem in our South Asian communities and I hate how normalised it is to the point where my kid cousins won't go play outside because "they should stay out of the sun lest they become darker" - like actually fuck off. I'm also someone who is considered relatively "fair" in comparison to some of my family members and when people compliment me on that, I tell them that's not a real compliment. It annoys the hell out of me.
dude same..when i was younger, my mom would tell me not to play out in the sun for too long because my skin would get darker but none of my relatives would say that to my male cousins!! I'm sooo sorry about that :(
