I finally pulled a beast, and I'm elated to say it's Tumblr's favorite blue bastard, Shadow Milk Cookie!!!

I had to dedicate a post to this simply to say I'm in love with his pull animation ngl - wish I had been recording my screen when it happened lmao. At least I got a few stills without it crashing the app!

And, as a postscript, here's a little fun fact I'd like to tuck away for posterity - it's of little relevance to anyone or anything of interest but I find it fitting:

While I've been playing CRK again for this past month, my partner and I have been building up to a particular scene in our oc rp. To try to summarize - a spy that wants out of their current job has been building up a plan that will trick and manipulate the other spy that they work with into getting forcibly revealed and caught - creating a smokescreen for themself as well as removing a potential information leak.

We had finally built up to this scene, just started it, and I was taking a pause to check cookie run while I waited for the next reply. And that is when this little goofus v

^ arrived in my kingdom, after all this time.

I finally sorted out how to record my screen, which is invaluable for my cookie run experience - namely, it gives me the chance to share dub lines with my friends, as one of the only people in the group who uses the Japanese dub!

I recorded Pure Vanilla as a sample to test, but I'm probably going to record more to share as I go - I also tend to have way more opinions on VA direction than necessary for crk, so I may decide to share these clips here with said commentary for fun!

For funsies, personal commentary for PV:

Mostly I was only recording this to show off the last line it ended on - I don't know that I'd heard it before, and the gentleness jumpscared me in a good way xD

As far as PV's lines go in this costume - it's interesting! So many of them are devoted to the implied matching White Lily however, that it goes from sweet to mildly concerning... as much as I like the costume, I prefer his usual lines.

As far as VA choice and direction overall - definitely my preferred interpretation of PV! I do suspect it runs into the potential complaint of 'feminizing' him too much, but it's successfully very soothing and gentle not just in range but also in delivery.

From what I recall of English PV's lines, he maintains more Heroic line delivery at times - which I think makes sense of the character's framing narratively! But in practice PV is something of a bookwormish cream puff, he wants the best for others and puts his energy into that but he does not carry the vibes of what is considered heroic. I also just generally like the idea of one of the heroes being so soft and unassuming despite their power and status - and his ability to sound firm and determined in his own ways regardless, even if it's not conventionally inspiring.

So the game keeps crashing on me anymore, but after all that good luck I decided to celebrate a bit by playing with the new arrivals! My eyes landed on charcoal first, in front of the Hug Bear, so naturally he got the welcoming ceremony of Into The Hug Bear /lh

I also put the #mycookie in The Hug Bear to test if I Could.... pop quiz, Where's Charcoal? /lh

(I'm pretty sure compared to other cookies in these two shots, it's kind of evident he Booked It once he was released from the Hug Bear's clutches lmao)

And then, My Girl came home after Literal YEARS of wanting her, well before there was even any certainty Devsis would actually make her recruitable.... So I had to give her a mini-welcome too, to celebrate being able to have her properly in my kingdom at long long long last!!

I decided to keep it simpler, rather than yeeting her across town into The Hug Bear's grasp - there was a tea party table, and a tea party cookie already Right There to help welcome her! By the time I set White Lily in her seat, Cherry Blossom was already five steps ahead, standing Right next to hers and only needing a slight nudge into her seat for a picture-perfect moment. It was like it was meant to be!

And then...

Vampire cookie RAN up to White Lily's side of the table... and stopped..... and just hung out there for a good 10 seconds or so, no animations or anything, just a secret third guest to the tea party!

Does it look socially awkward? Yeah honestly. But I think in its own way it paints an endearing image - White Lily arrived to the kingdom overwhelmed with guilt, uncertainty, waiting for cookies to be mad with her or chase her out. And here you have two entirely unrelated cookies with no prior attachment to her giving her the warmest welcome - one of whom simply couldn't contain himself and rushed over to join in on the welcoming party!

I dunno - it just feels Right somehow, better than anything I could have staged for sure.

Random thought - I play my Cookie Run Kingdom game with the Japanese dub, and have an interest in comparing dubs as well as archiving things including event lines, cookie milestones, and so on from this gacha game for the day something inevitably goes down. With that in mind -

Would anyone be interested if I set up a Cookie Run Kingdom blog dedicated to highlighting different dub work alongside celebrating other little nuances/fun features?

Taking requests for specific lines to show off and compare! (Can only do so with what I have available - but this could go beyond JP dub if people wanted)

Other archival things I sometimes post - cookie promotion lines, icons, and so on!

And then fandom posts and fanart in the queue to help keep that cookie goodness going!

(Disclaimer - blog will be limited to CRK outside of reblogs as that's the only game I play or intend to play)

Honestly I may do this anyways - but I have Too Many Sideblogs as is so I figure doing an interest check will help give me input and time to sort out if it's a worthwhile venture owo

Woe, Japanese dub Donald Duck Cookie be upon ye

(Also rip to Vampire who was clearly running up to say hi to Donald and then I Ruined it by scooping the indignant duck up /silly)

Random thoughts on the dub work below:

I am Endlessly impressed with this dubber's work. Obviously they'd have to have someone who could dub Donald just in general, but it is So Spot On - and, as someone who has auditory processing issues and can understand Some Japanese but is by no means anywhere near native speaking levels - it is also Very intelligible to boot? Which blows my mind. I think I have better success understanding this dubber than I do some english VAs, at least for the few lines he has

All in all, I give this VA 100000 out of 10 stars and I hope they get the recognition they deserve in the industry for this.
