Thank you for the suggestion, Oracle! Honestly, Kirigiri is already royalty in my eyes XD I think the title actually suits her quite a bit!
I had a bit of trouble thinking up of the design (she originally looked like an Elsa cosplayer at first ^^;) And even now, I’m not entirely sure if the route I went for her was the right one. I actually had a more traditional style for her in that I was working on, but guess what? It’s her birthday today! So Happy Birthday, Kyoko! Today you are a princess :) All hail her majesty!
Headcanons/Backstory under the cut
Kyoko Kirigiri was born to loving parents, and in early childhood there could be no happier young girl. Unfortunately, sickness took her mother’s life and she was left to live with just her father.
They made the best of it for one year, , until he one day got a call from someone. He took off the next week, taking her to her favorite places, visting new parks and gardens, even went to the amusement park. Kyoko was happy, but could sense a sadness in her father despite his smiles. At the end on the week, when she woke up and went to the kitchen, her father was sitting at the table with a guest. Kyoko was used to guests and greeted him respectfully.
The guest explained himself. He was a trusted friend of the current king of a micronation located on an island just north of Japan. The previous princess, and those even before, had all passed away. Kyoko’s mother would have been the only one left. She was very distantly related to the king by blood, but every other heir to the throne were killed in various ways. The king, now very old, still needed someone to succeed him. No one knew Kyoko’s mother, so they had no idea she had passes away. Fortunately, she had a daughter.
Tearfully, Kyoko’s father hugged her tightly in goodbye and wishing her a better life. She tried to fight out of it and stay, but her father already gave up on her, it seemed.
Kyoko, feeling abandoned, decided there was nothing else but to become the person her father wanted. For five years, she had waited for her father to visit, or to at least return her letters or answer her calls, yet he did not. She eventually asked someone to check on him, only to find that he had moved away and changed jobs to become principal of Hope’s Peak Academy. Somehow she felt betrayed again. She took to her lessons like she was born to be princess, and her people adored her. Despite her cold exterior, it was clear that every move she ever made was for her people. That didn’t mean she had any friends, though. Revered princess though she was, and as loved as he was, she made sure not to get too close to anyone.
She continued to do her best, giving valuable advice during a major economic crisis that spared her people from the full brunt of it. She also was a key reason as to why her country didn’t fall apart after a devastating natural disaster that would have destroyed them all.
She was not surprised when she had got a letter from Hope’s Peak Academy, requesting her to join it’s 78th class as the Ultimate Princess. Although it wasn’t her goal to be invited, it would make it much easier to demand answers from her father.
