MAGDALENA MONTENEGRO: OVERBOARD (2018) ➞ ICONS.
— like or c (twt @deIamoras) if you use
If someone wrote a Reylo fic based on the story from the movie Overboard (especially the new one, with Anna Faris) I would literally die. I mean:
The apprentice of Snoke, Kylo Ren, wipes out in his tie fighter and loses his memory
Rey finds him and comes to collect him, telling everyone he's her husband because she needs a teacher or something
She tells him his name is Ben and gets him to help out around the Resistance base where everyone has been told to play along
Hux sees this as an opportunity for power and tells Snoke that Kylo is dead
Snoke laments the death of his apprentice, but accepts Hux as his second in command
Ben struggles at first, feeling like something is off about this life
But he inevitably falls in love and loves his new life, as unglamorous as it may be
And Rey falls in love too, though she tried to avoid it, because she had just been using him and exploiting his knowledge and power to help their cause
Everything is going well until... Snoke finds him
Ben finds out who he really is and remembers everything
He is angry at first and he goes with Snoke, much to Hux's annoyance
But he is unhappy in his life as part of the first order
Some quirks he had in his new life with Rey keep coming up and he can't suppress who he was when he was happy and with her
Rey realizes she made a mistake but she still loves him and decides to go to him
Ben decides to leave the first order too, and despite the danger, he abandons his leadership role and goes to her
They declare their love for each other and live happily ever after
I love fics where he is confused beyond belief because of memory loss
With the deepest understanding that stills Do Not Do this scene Comedic Justice, you all need to watch Overboard (2018). It’s on Hulu. Do yourself a SOLID.
About the 2018 Overboard Remake
So, just got out of the theater after seeing the new remake of the film Overboard, and I have to say I was really pleased with it. Self-aware of it’s wacky, telenovela-esque story, with great humor, an adorable love story, and a wonderful message underneath it all.
The film shows a single mom juggling two jobs and three kids, all while going to nursing school so she can provide a better life for her daughters. Even while tricking the amnesiac rich boy into thinking they’re married, she’s shown as being protective of her children; being wary of leaving her ‘husband’ alone with her three daughters, even going so far as to make him sleep in the shed out back instead of in the house.
After moving in, despite his confusion and horror at being ‘a poor nobody’, the spoiled rich guy is shown to obviously care about his ‘daughters’. He teaches the youngest to ride a bike, goes to their sports games, makes them school lunches, cooks dinner, and is shown to be just as protective of them as their mom.
The film is as much a story about family as it is a Rom-Com. A recurring theme in the movie is how the guy is so clearly not the girls’ biological father. Explained away with the lie of having to use a sperm donor, it has no effect on just how much he and the girls come to love one another.
The guy says himself (while still suffering from amnesia) “They may not have come from me, but they are still my kids”. This is especially meaningful after seeing how some members of his real family are happier with him gone.
As someone who has more contact and a better relationship with my stepfather than my biological one, this line and others like it were one of the best things about the film. Family doesn’t always end with blood, but it doesn’t start there, either.
overboard (2018): a review
i had high hopes for this movie. i loved the trailer, i'm a fan of eugenio durbez, and rom coms are fun! but this film is kind of a letdown.
spoilers ahead!
Overboard (2018) ★★★★★★ 06/10 Director: Rob Greenberg Writer: Leslie Dixon, Bob Fisher, Rob Greenberg Stars: Anna Faris, Eva Longoria, Eugenio Derbez
